Chapter 05 || Tough Girl
After leaving Jihun at the daycare again, and practically ignoring his whines and puppy eyes that pretty obviously stated, don't go mamma, Yoongi was right once again, the toddler has realised that the daycare wasn't a one time thing and this is going to repeat. So she had no other way than using the worldly tricks on her little baby, bribing him another pack of jellies and an ice cream too to keep him smiling in anticipation all day.
One way or the other, she managed to convince Jihun to stay another day at the daycare with kids around his age, under SeokJin's care. Now that also made things easier for her. The man isn't just godly handsome, but a sweetheart and extremely supportive family-like figure too. Knowing Jiah's life and being a close friend of Yoongi made him connect to the girl on a more emotional level.
She sighs deeply, pulling up a smile to start yet another day at work without pissing Park Jimin off. Jiah stands up from her seat as the bus halts at the stop near the company building, indicating that all the time she had to prepare herself is over.
Her eyes admire the shining architecture even after been working here for more than two weeks, it never fails to impress her and remind her of she's now working her dream job- no, dreaming place. The trail of thoughts is broken with a honk from the side where a man is on his motorcycle, leaning on the handle as he most probably stares at her through the black glass of his helmet.
It takes Jiah longer than a second to pull her eyes off the beauty of the motorcycle, dragging her gaze up till the black biker's gloves before finally looking back in the front as her brain strategically sends a reminder of how her boss might fire her if she's late.
"Miss Jiu Jitsu," The man says as his helmet is off now, between his hands when Jiah frowns at him, recognising the face as the same one from the convenience store a few days ago.
"Oh Mr asshole." She smiles sarcastically, making him glance down for a moment as his lips lift up into an amused smile.
"Fine," He gets off the two-wheeler, keeping the helmet on the handle and walks up to her, "Jeon Jungkook is my name."
"What a coincidence, my neighbour's dog has the same name!"
He breathes deeply, glancing at his feet before looking back at her with a sarcastic smile, naturally lifting the left corner of his pierced lower lip. "Are you always like that?"
"No, you're just annoying." Jiah smiles back with similar sarcasm.
"Anyway, I told you my name, now you tell me yours." He anticipates, leaning his head back while keeping his eyes fixed on her face, then gradually descending his gaze down, studying the formal attire of the white, soft-looking loose shirt tucked in the beige colored pencil skirt and an ID card hanging from her neck, "Park Jiah," He reads with a smirk, "you work here?"
"No, I own this place." She rolls her eyes.
"So, your husband is Park Jimin?" He raises an eyebrow.
"You're not just an asshole but a really dumb person too."
"And you're really hot. Even though your kick hurted a bit, it's fine." He says, "I like you."
"Geez! Boy are you crazy? You just freaking met me for fuck's sake! How can you like me already? Especially after getting your balls kicked?" The girl sighs, making a weird face at him, "You definitely have some problems, go solve them and consult a doctor if needed. I feel bad for you."
"No, see, I like you and I want you, Park Jiah to go out me at least once."
Jiah stares at him with unimpressed look, having her lips pressed together until she parts them gradually, heaving out a sigh. Her fingers pinch the bridge of her nose, thinking how terribly ill his mental health must be. So she shakes her head and pats his shoulder, looking at him with sympathetic eyes, "Jungkook-ssi, I think you should take rest. Drop the idea of going out right now, and please take care of yourself okay?"
"Wha-" Jungkook frowns, gasping he realises how wrong Jiah thought of him, "Jesus! Do you really think I'm mentally retarded?!"
"No, when did I say that?" Jiah smiles at him, "I just think you need rest. You're thinking too much."
"I just asked you out- Okay, yeah fine." He nibbles on his lips. "But I swear you will love me."
"Really? Well good for you, imagination doesn't cost anything." She smiles, earning a straight face from the guy. Before he says anything further, their attention drifts from each other to another honk, this time of a car.
"What the fuck do you-"
"Shit!" Jiah curses, pushing Jungkook aside and steps away from the cars path, once seeing the person inside is Park Jimin's manager, means Jimin must be inside too, watching her gossiping outside the office building with a guy who looks no less than a thug.
To her dismay, Jimin is there and he steps out of the car, gesturing the manager that he'll go on his own as they're already in front of the building. Jiah shuts her eyes tightly, cursing at herself and Jungkook for meeting her in the morning.
She bows at the boss, "I'm so sorry-"
"Who is this Mister?" He ignores her apology and glances at Jungkook, whose brows arch up at the CEO.
"Oh uhm, he... he's someone I accidentally ran into. And I was just going my way now, he was saying sorry." She nods to confirm her words, pushing the strands of her behind her ear.
"Miss Jiah, don't you run into people a lot?" Jimin taunts, before glancing at the other male again, "and you, whatever your name is, you can leave."
"What the-"
"Yes, bye! You should leave sir. It's okay you don't have to apologize again and again. I'm fine." Jiah smiles quickly, pushing Jungkook towards his motorcycle subtly, "Go away you asshole! He's my boss, he'll fire me!" She whispers to him, earning a scoff.
"Only if you go out with me."
"No, sorry."
"I'm not leaving." Jungkook grins, and turns to Jimin, "Hey, I-"
"No, you're a creep, I don't know you, and just no."
"If we get to know each other first," He suggests, "would you go out with me?"
"I don't know. Just leave."
"Alright, fine. See you around princess." He winks, putting on his helmet and goes away on his motorcycle, making her sigh in relief.
"Princess," She mocks, glaring at his back before it turns from the crossroad, getting lost behind the corner shop.
"Miss Jiah, it would be great if you show similar dedication towards your job, rather than wasting time with such anti-social elements on the street."
"I'm sorry sir-"
"Enough," He motions his hand dismissively, walking straight into the building, having the girl cursing at herself as she follows behind, suddenly remembering that she is the secretary.
__
"Hey, Jiah?" The girl stops midway, looking up at the familiar voice, almost letting out a whine of frustration when her eyes meet the elder's smiling ones. "You're still here? I thought you left."
"I was about to," She sighs, "Mr Park said there's more paper work and some online stuff that I gotta finish today."
"Aish! That guy." Namjoon shakes his head, "You should go now, it's getting late."
"I can't. Mr Park is still here. I don't wanna be fired, oppa." She sighs.
"You're adorable." The man chuckles, patting her head, "Well, I'm here for a while. Tell me when you're about to leave, I'll drop you home."
"Ah thanks, but I'll manage."
"It's fine, Jiah." He assures, "By the way, what about Jihun? His daycare must be over now."
"Yeah, I called Yoongi oppa to pick him up." She nods, glancing back at the files in her hand, "Well, I'll get going now. And now that you insist so much, I'll let you have the honour of dropping me home."
Namjoon laughs at the dramatic dialogue delivery, shaking his head as he raises his hands in the air, "Thank you madam. Now go, your boss is really cranky, more than Jihun."
"Ah I know, Jihun is so much better." She snickers, waving at him.
"I'll be in my office."
"Yes sir!"
Jiah turns on her heals, heading back to Jimin's office. Heaving out a deep sigh, her hand pushes the door open, forced by her habit of peeking in first, she looks at the boss on a video call. He's seated on his chair, the laptop facing him on the table as he nods at whatever the person said.
For a moment he looks up, maintaining an eye contact with Jiah, as if asking what she wanted. The girl frowns at the obvious torment creasing his brows together, he snaps out of hia stance, focusing back on the screen of his laptop, continuing with the call, hoping and pretending that he didn't just get lost in his secretary for a second.
"Great, thanks a lot." He smiles briefly before shutting the laptop down and leans back, sighing deeply.
He stares at the flickering lights of the night city, the glass in between also displaying the faint reflection of Jiah sitting on the couch, alone, frowning at the screen of her laptop, having a bunch of other papers and files scattered around her.
"Miss Jiah," His voice calls, earning a quick glance from the girl, "Did you finish the work?"
"Almost done, sir." She smiles proudly, "These three are completed."
Jimin nods slowly, blinking a few times, taking his time to register the smile Jiah just flashed him, being happy with her hardwork. He shakes his head, walking towards the couch and takes a seat across her.
Jiah doesn't mind when he picks up one of the completed files, skipping through the pages. She stops for a moment, staring at the boss with hopeful eyes for some sort of appreciation from his cold personality.
"The stats should be taken properly." He says, placing the file down "Make sure you re-check everything."
"I... y-yes, okay." She nods, forcing a smile and looks down, muttering curses under her breath. "Jerk, why don't you do it yourself?"
"Did you say something Miss Jiah?" He cocks his head forward.
"No! Why would I say anything? I'll check everything again, don't worry sir."
"Hmm good." Jimin nods, "You can go now, continue this tomorrow."
Jiah's eyes follow his figure as he stands up, heading back to his desk, grabbing his coat and the phone, which is enough for Jiah to know she's supposed to leave the office too, for being left alone in this huge ass room at night where one whole wall is dedicatedly made of glass is not really a considerable option. Plus, she has Jihun waiting at home.
"Okay," She nods with a small smile and starts collecting the papers, arranging them back into the files of desired sections.
"Uh Miss Jiah?" Jimin stops by the door, turning around as he fixes his eyes on the girl.
"Yes sir?"
"Be quick, I'll be waiting outside."
"...Why?" She asks, unsure of her words and Jimin's words suddenly.
"I assume you don't have a ride back home at this hour." He says, "So lemme drop you."
"Oh, no no, it's fine. I'll go on my own. Thank you for thinking like that though." She smiles, happy to know that he's more than being a cold CEO, or so she thought till now.
"Really? Is your boyfriend coming to get you?"
There her smile died. No, he is just a cold CEO.
"Actually no, I don't know why you mentioned my boyfriend, sir, even though I don't have one. But it's fine, yeah men tend to respect other men but not a woman's word." She throws a sharp glare at him, making him shut his mouth and stare at her with an unreadable expression, "I'll go home by myself. My boyfriend, brother, neighbour, or anyone from my private life shouldn't concern my professional life, Mr Park. Who else can understand that better than you, right?"
Jimin bites his cheek, staring at the girl walking past him with her heels clicking through the hallway, each click sending a wave of excitement mixed with goosebumps along his spine. He releases a breath, tilting his head, eyes fixated on her descending figure when his plump lips slowly tug up into a faded smile, "Of course," He nods to himself, "tough girl."
