Chapter 17: The "Incident"

The five of them sat in front of the small tv in their small house. Logan was going to leave the next day, so they had all unanimously decided to invite him over. Thomas and Hayden both really liked superheroes - so did everyone else, but you wouldn't see Harper going around saying she liked Spider-Man - so they were watching Avengers at almost midnight. Nobody really cared that it was a school night or that Harper had to be up early for work. They just wanted to relax together.

Harper sat with her back against the wooden crate they used as a coffee table. She always let the boys take the old, worn couch, and Bailey and Logan grabbed chairs from the kitchen dining room thing. It's not that she wanted her family to take the furniture, she just really liked sitting on the floor.

They were in the middle of their second movie when Logan leaned over and whispered, "Why is it that your family seems so... perfect... like this?"

Harper smiled and shrugged, "We're by no means perfect. But we try to be as close as we can."

Logan smiled and leaned back again, his attention returning to the movie as Hulk threw Loki into the ground. Harper's gaze lingered a moment before looking back at the screen. The story unfolded before her eyes, the portal closing, Tony falling. Everyone sat quietly, waiting for the movie's end.

"Thomas?" Bailey said, drawing everyone's attention to the boy. His eyes were closed, jaw slack as his body shook.

"Oh my gosh-" Harper started as Logan grabbed his shoulders, "Thomas?"

"Get him on his side!" Bailey ordered, eyes watering.

Logan and Bailey slowly lowered him off the couch as Harper shoved the makeshift table aside. "Hayden, go to the bedroom!" She ordered, her voice cracking.

"Oh my god!" Bailey whimpered, stepping away and pulling out her phone as Logan got on the ground beside him. Harper could barely watch and ran to join Hayden in the back.

Hayden was hyperventilating, his arms wrapped around his chest as he panicked. "Hey, Hayden. Look at me," Harper instructed softly, lifting his chin, "Listen, everything will be alright."

"HE'S NOT BREATH-" Harper slammed the door to the closet shut before Hayden could hear what Bailey had screamed.

"Hayden," she said, calmly, "Look at me. Ok?" She waited for him to look at her and knelt at eye level, "Ok. We're going to count to 10. Alright? One, two, three..."

The higher they counted, the more Hayden calmed down. He still shook in fear, but his breath steadied. "W... Will Thomas be okay?" He asked shakily, his voice barely above a whisper.

Harper smiled, "Of course. Yes, Thomas will be fine. I'm sure of it. Ok?" The screaming outside had died down, which was either a really good or a really bad thing. Hayden nodded. "Alright. Do you want to make something?"

Hayden looked confused, "Make something?"

"Yeah. Here," she looked around and found some random spare plastic pipes they'd never gotten rid of, some clothes she didn't care for anymore, and some markers, "Do you think you could make something with this?"

"M-maybe..."

"Hey," Harper smiled, "I still have that mirror you made me."

"The mirror?"

She nodded, "From when I left. I broke my mirror, and you made me a new one. Remember."

Hayden wiped his eyes and smiled, "Yeah..."

"Alright. So make something new. I'm going to check on Thomas. I'm sure everything is fine."

Hayden looked like he was about to protest, but he never did. Harper walked out and saw Thomas sitting up on the floor, looking very confused as Bailey sobbed in relief. Sitting back on his heels was Logan, who looked both relieved and scared, carefully watching Thomas.

"Where's Hayden?" Thomas asked when he noticed Harper walk in, "Is he ok?"

Harper smiled, "He's extremely scared, but otherwise he's fine. How are you?"

"I feel fine."

"Do you remember what happened?"

Thomas shook his head, "I just thought I fell asleep. Then I woke up on the floor with Bailey saying the ambulance was on its way."

Harper let out a held breath, "Ok. I'll tell Hayden you're alright."

"Will he come out?"

"He... might be scared to. He just wants you to be alright."

Thomas nodded and Harper walked back to Hayden, who was busy tying an old shirt to a pole. His head shot up as the door opened. "Is he ok?"

Harper shut the door behind her, "He's fine. He's talking and remembers everything beforehand."

Hayden sighed in relief and colored a small section of the white pole, "Will he still have to go to the hospital?"

"Unfortunately, yes. We need to make sure that everything's alright and that this won't happen again. I'll probably go with him. Are you ok with staying here with with Bailey for a bit?"

"And me," Logan's voice came from the door that Harper hadn't even heard him open, "I'll be staying for a bit longer than I originally planned."

Harper gave him a silent 'thank you' before turning back to Hayden, "And Logan. Is that ok?"

Hayden nodded, "This won't happen again, will it?"

"Never. Thomas will be fine. We'll all be fine." Harper grabbed his hands, "I promise." She let go as Hayden smiled, "Now, I'm going to tell Bailey to join you. Maybe you can comfort her. She's still scared."

Hayden smiled, "Ok."

Harper smiled back before slipping past Logan and into the living room. Thomas was standing, though Bailey looked a bit shaky.

"Hey Bailey, do you wanna watch Hayden?" Harper asked, putting her hand on her shoulder. Bailey nodded and ran her hand across Thomas' hair before heading back.

"We have to go to the hospital," Harper told him as cars with flashing lights pulled into the driveway, much to the confusion of the neighbors - they were lucky the man who owned the store below them didn't live there. He would've been upset.

Thomas nodded, "Ok. I feel fine, but ok."

Harper smiled, "Everything will be fine. Let's go out and meet them."

Ok... so, this was kind of hard to write, but I felt I had to since this is how I'd planned on progressing the storyline anyway... I've been putting this off for so long, you guys have no idea.

So... first things first, please don't say anything along the lines of "this was unrealistic". I would know if it was unrealistic or not. This happened to me. If you guys followed me and have been keeping up with me, you'd know back on my birthday I said that there were recent "events" that I didn't want to talk about. This was said event. At about midnight the night before my birthday, one of my friends, who was at our house with her family, had a seizure. In the heat of the moment, I acted very similar to Harper (tho I was basing Harper, Hayden, and Bailey's reactions off my friends and their mom) but I had severe aftershock which made it almost impossible to actually talk about it. Sometimes I wonder if it gave me mild PTSD, since I once watched my cousin fall while catching a ball and I was immediately back in my living room, on the floor, watching my mom and my friend's mom lowering her to the floor.

Secondly, I apologize for the single swear I have in here (that alone was very hard to write) but that's actually what happened. My friends' mom was panicking, and I was trying to make this is accurate to what actually happened as possible. This'll be the only time I swear ever, I promise.

This.... I don't even know how to sign off. Usually I say "I hope you enjoyed this chapter" but if you enjoyed this chapter then.... then I really don't know what to think of you. So... I guess I'll see y'all later... bye.
