Chapter 10: Welcome! You're going somewhere else now!

"Where's daddy?" Bailey asked as Isabelle strapped her into her carseat.

"He's... He's busy, sweetie. He'll be back soon." Isabelle lied. Pushing the button that closed the door, she opened the passenger door and for in. Once she say down, Olivia handed her baby back to her.

"Where are we going?"

"We're... going to a new house."

"But I don't want to leave."

Isabelle leaned around her chair with much difficulty and put her hand on her daughter's knee, "I don't either, sunshine. But it's the best thing for us."

Bailey sat there quietly and strangled her stuffed monkey as Isabelle nodded at Olivia to leave. Without a word, she pulled out of the driveway and onto the road. Isabelle let go of Bailey's knew and turned back towards the road. They had a long way to go. Far enough that Corin likely wouldn't find them for a while, but somewhere close to a H.A.R.P. lab so they could monitor her baby, who was sleeping calmly in her arms.

Olivia saw Isabelle watching her baby and put a hand on her shoulder, keeping her eyes on the road, "Hey. It'll be ok. She'll be fine."

Isabelle managed a smile and nodded, but she couldn't stop thinking about Olivia's own lost child. Olivia didn't even remember she was pregnant. It... It was sad, how much they gave up for one person. If only Ashley hadn't insisted that the test go underway... We'd have 316 more people in the world right now.

"Let's just get as far away from my creepy husband as possible."

"You're back."

She turned around and saw him. It was frustrating. She knew who he was, but, at the same time... She had no clue. With a sigh, she dragged a hand down her face, "I know you, don't I?"

"Well, at least that's something. Yes, you do."

"You told me to remember something. Ugh, I hate how ironic that is!"

The boy chuckled, "You aren't wrong. I asked you to remember this," he gestured to the darkness around him, "Of course, a bunch of darkness isn't very memorable, is it?"

"Maybe that's why my brain feels like it's full of dark spots. I'm just remembering the color black."

"Maybe," the boy laughed, "Though maybe giving you a new view will help you remember. Again."

He led the way. The pathing through the dark felt familiar, as if she'd walked that way many times. Turning around the corner, she stated in awe at the scene around her.

The sky was a mix of vibrant purple and blue, speckled with stars like sparks from a fire. It looked different than the Rift, where she normally ended up in her dreams, but more like those pictures of space you'd find on the internet.

Floating amongst the stars was a collection of solid black buildings, built upon what looked like a crumbling island. The island was connected to no ground, just sat there, pieces falling into the oblivion below. Nothing about it looked safe, but it also didn't seem very dangerous.

People wandered around by the buildings, shockingly bright against the darkness of the space. They seemed to have a white glow to them that merged together with each other's but also stated separate. No amount of words could describe exactly how beautiful the pace was.

"Woah." She gasped, taking the in the sight.

"This is what I wanted you to remember," the boy told her, "This place. Our... You called it a country. Not sure if it's quite big enough for that, but it's definitely not a town. Not a kingdom... World. Our own little world."

"And there are a few hundred people here?"

He nodded, "Just over 300 of us."

"Including your leaders."

"Hey, we're getting somewhere," he grinned, "You remember what I said about that?"

"Bits and pieces right now, but before I couldn't remember a thing, so I guess this is progress."

"Any step forward can be considered progress. Just got to make sure you don't take a step back when you're scared. Come on, let me show you around!"

She scanned the area before them, "Um, how exactly do we get across? I don't see a bridge anywhere..."

He laughed, "Bridge? Why would you need that?" Turning his back towards the space-city thing, he kept grinning as he walked backwards towards the edge of the ledge. Without even looking behind him, he stepped off the ledge. She almost screamed, afraid he was going to fall, but he didn't move. Another step back, and he was standing on nothing. Literally nothing. "Come on! It's not that hard!"

She stood there anxiously, "Is this what you meant by 'don't step back when you're afraid,'?"

"Not intentionally, but I guess that works. Seriously, you're not in danger. It's like... walking on really, really transparent glass."

"Glass shatters when you apply too much pressure on it," she pointed out.

"Well, then... It's really strong glass. Come on, I'm trying," he complained when she just kept staring, "I promise, it's safe. I've brought people both older and younger than you over. They all got to the city alright. Trust me."

She sighed and looked at the city behind him. There were people there, and they had to get there somehow... 300 people? What were the chances whatever floor he was standing on would break when she started walking if it hadn't broken before?

Finally, after reconsidering all her options - there were 3: go back, stay, or go forward - she stepped out onto the nothingness. Instead of gravity pulling her down, like it should have, her foot hit something solid. Another step, and she was completely off the ledge.

"See?" The boy asked with a smile, "It's not so bad!"

"I feel like I'm going to fall to my death if I walk too quickly,"

"Well, at least you aren't actually falling."

"Thank you. I feel so much better."

The boy only laughed and kept going, never stopping to look at the city behind him. Only once they reached the island - which was at least a football field from where they started - did he turn around again, "Would you look at that? You didn't die!"

"Yay," she mumbled, "Time for a celebration."

He chuckled, "Come on. Let's go to the Council. They haven't met you yet."

Yay! My streak is still going! (I guarantee it that I won't maintain it once I get back into school, but at least I tried. ) I'm finally somewhere that I feel is interesting, and it should get better as we go, or I'll completely screw up and nothing will make sense anymore (ex. Literally everything else I've written on here)

Thank you SomePaste for the header picture! We've been talking about this story since.... June? July? Sometime in the summer, when I ran cross country. She's been a big help with some of the plot stuff and details. (Including the city Harper is currently at. Originally that place didn't exist. Thank you) this story would've been way different if she hadn't helped, and she isn't recognized nearly as much as she should be, so please help her out (Maybe it'll convince her to keep writing, lol)

Well, I think that's all for now. I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and I'll see y'all later! Bye!
