Chapter 6 || The Party
"The best love is the kind that awakens the soul; that makes us reach for more, that plants the fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. That’s what I hope to give you forever." — The Notebook.

"Are you done? We need to get going." I heard the door click and I didn't bother to turn.
"Why are you not dressed?" I guess Carlos didn't tell him what was going on. I replayed the audio again for him. There was a slight hint of worry on his face but he masked it quickly with indifference.
"I need to make an appearance for that party. I won't be getting late because of you. Get dressed." He said sternly and I got confused.
"You life is under threat and you want to make an appearance for some party? We can't go."
He stepped into my space, he eyes boring into mine.
"Why do you think I hired you? You are the guard. Be a genius and think of something." He angrily walked away and stopped when he got to the door. "And get dressed." he closed the door with a bang and I cringed.
What's gotten into him?
I looked at the black, sleeveless dress Alfredo got me. It was beautiful but it was too bad I wouldn't able to wear it. Carlos had warned me earlier, that Alfredo wouldn't back down even if I told him.
So I found out all I could about this party that Alfredo so much cares about. And I understood why he wouldn't back down. All the proceedings from the party was sent to one local orphanage and Alfredo was all about it.
I placed the dress down and took the outfit that was designed for the all waitresses for the event. I had to blend in and protect Alfredo. It's the only way.
I stepped out, hurrying down the stairs to catch up with Alfredo but I lost my footing and almost hit the ground until a pair of two strong arms held me.
"Watch your step." he warned and let me go. His eyes raked up my body and he frowned. "Where the fuck is the dress that I bought for you?"
"It's almost time for the party to start. I will explain everything on the way." I explained but Alfredo just huffed and dragged me along. I didn't like the way he was treating me. I didn't understand why I wasn't talking back or taking control. I let him do whatever he wants. And this isn't me.
"Step on it." he command the driver. His hands were still firmly holding mine and I can't lie. It oddly made me feel secure.
"So tell me why you didn't wear the dress I bought you." I tried to get my hand free but he just held onto it.
"I did just as you told me. I am being a genius." he snorted and looked away.
Within few seconds, the driver stopped at a huge mansion. The decorative designs all over indicated we arrived.
"Albert, I want you to guard Alfredo. Here," I handed him a gun and Alfredo just widened his eyes. "In case of anything, just shoot." Albert, the driver, nodded and stepped out. I packed the car to the ends of the gate and managed to get inside without being noticed.
Soft music was playing in the background. Alfredo was talking with a few guys and Albert was a few steps behind him.
"Hey you. What do you think you doing?" a man came out of nowhere and shouted at me. "Take this and start serving." He handed me a tray of glasses of wine and I started serving.
There was a clicking of glass and everyone paused.
"Just as we do this. One of our sponsors would have the dance for the night. And it's none other than Alfredo." Everyone clapped and I could see the excitement on every lady present.
"Put up you dancing shoes ladies, in a few minutes Alfredo would be choosing a dancing partner." Everyone cheered and went back to talking with each other. I went back to the kitchen to get another set of drinks. Someone tapped me on the shoulder. I turned and he shoved a gun in my hands.
"The signal is when the music ends." he hurriedly went to the next waitress and it took a few minutes for everything to click together.
When the music ends. Oh no.
"Ladies, step right up." Alfredo came forward and scanned the crowd. His eyes landed on me and he walked towards me. With every step, my heart raced but stopped short when he chose the lady beside me.
I can't let him do this.
When he stretched his hand, I placed mine in his. The crowd gasped and Alfredo had a look that screamed 'What the fuck are you doing?'
"Just trust me." I mouthed to him.
The lights dimmed and the Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud, started playing. He draped his arm around my waist and pushed me close. A shiver run down my spine and I nervously placed my hands on his shoulders.
Our bodies moulded together as we swayed to the flow of the music. I could feel his warmth radiate into me. For a moment, there was nowhere I wanted to be but his arms. It felt so right and so perfect.
I snapped out of it realizing the song was about to end. I spotted to the door at the far end and took control of the dance. The crowd parted for us, as we danced our way towards the door.
"Stop them!!" the music stopped abruptly. I quickly opened the door and pushed Alfredo inside. Shots were fired and I felt a piercing pain in my arm when I closed the door.
"Hurry, let's get a chair under the lock." Alfredo hurriedly brought the chair. Traces of worry was etched on face when he looked at my arm.
"You are bleeding." there was continuous banging on the door, and soon they would be able to enter.
"We need to get out of here." Alfredo grabbed my arm and tied the wound with his neck tie. "This should hold you up for a while."
"Alfredo we have to jump. They would break in soon." He nodded. He jumped first and I followed suit.
We crouched behind the bushes and I waited patiently for any sort of movement.
"They are outside." someone shouted and I knew we had to make a run for it.
"Let's go!" I shouted as I made a dash for the car. He was close on my heel and I was grateful he wasn't slacking. I quickly opened the door but paused when a figure stood before us.
"Albert what do you think you are doing?" Alfredo questioned in disbelief. I wasn't surprised at all. No one around Alfredo could be trusted anymore.
Before he could press the trigger, I clicked on the button on the car key and he was shaking vigorously due to the electric current passing through him.
A bullet hit the roof of the car and Alfredo sat in. "How did you do that?"
I pulled out and hurriedly made my way out of the yard. "Will explain latter. For now, let's focus on staying alive."
