AUTHOR'S NOTE (MUST READ)
Hi everyone, it's been 4 months since I've updated Enraptured and a lot in my life has happened since then. I recently graduated from uni and moved to a completely different city. I'm starting grad school in less than 2 weeks and I finally had the time to update Enraptured. I'm soooo sorry for the long update and I hope you guys like this chapter!!!!
Danny looked as pale as a ghost when they wheeled him into the emergency room. The automatic doors slid open ahead of us and I ran behind the paramedics attending to one of my closest friends. One of the paramedics straddled Danny's body to do chest compressions and a doctor placed an oxygen mask on his face.
"Miss, we're going to need you to get back and wait in the waiting room." the nurse said.
I couldn't help but follow her instructions. I need to get out of their way and help Danny. I watched as they wheeled him to surgery. My knees buckled and I fell to the floor. Ethan came to my side and helped me up. Angelo went to my other side and gave Ethan a look. Ethan returned his stare with an understanding expression. Angelo lifted me up bridal style and my head nestled against the crook of his neck.
"Let's get you food and water," he said, planting a soft kiss on my forehead. My skin tingled where his lips touched. I squeezed my eyes shut, willing this odd feeling to grow in the pit of my stomach. Nope, now's not the time to be having mixed feelings for him.
"I don't want to eat," I whined. "I want to see Danny."
"I know, love. I know." Angelo replied softly, his chest vibrating against my body.
He set me down in one of the many booths at the hospital cafeteria. The windows were as high as the ceiling, the walls an ivory color, and the cafeteria was slightly busy. There was a line for the hamburger station on my left, and workers stood behind the register to finish transactions.
"Is there anything you feel like eating? You haven't eaten at all today." Angelo asked me.
I shook my head. If I eat anything, I think I might throw up.
"I actually want a burger and fries and a Coke to drink." Brittany butted in. Angelo smiled at her and walked towards the hamburger station for her order. Brittany slid next to my side.
"So what's up with you and Angelo?" she asked me with one brow raised.
I made a face at her. "Nothing," I said. "We're still acquaintances--"
"That's pure BS. I saw how he carried you and called you 'love'. You're not fooling anyone, girl." Brittany interrupted me.
I blushed. I understood where she was coming from. Angelo and I seemed closer just like old times. "There really is nothing going on," I told her. "I didn't forget how he betrayed us." I finished changing my tone to a serious one.
Brittany nodded silently. Good. She remembered. "A simple 'love' isn't going to sweep me off my feet, girl. I'm not that Celeste anymore." I said coldly.
She put her hands up in defense. "That's not what I meant, Celeste--" she began.
"I know what you mean."
Brittany didn't say anything after that and we just sat there in silence. Angelo walked over to us with two plates of hamburgers and fries on the side. He looked at me and then to Brittany again before setting the plates down. We ate our food silently until we were done.
Hours passed and my anxiety grew like a snowball each hour that passed by. I want to cry. I really do. However, deep down in my gut, I knew a Demon King would be watching...just waiting for me to break down. I wouldn't want to give him the pleasure of seeing me distraught. I could already see Aurelio's smug face in my mind. So I held back my tears and the screams that threatened to leave.
Finally, the doors to the waiting room opened and a healthcare professional strode towards us. I examined his tired face. His eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep, worry wrinkles lined his features, and his posture was slightly hunched as if he could just fall asleep standing up.
"I'm sorry," he began. "We did everything we could..."
"No..." Brittany began to cry. She wept on Ethan's chest and was inconsolable. The doctor looked at us with pity. He waited for Brittany's sobs to subside a little bit before continuing. "His body cannot sustain an extensive surgery like this. If we continue, he'll die on the operating table. He'll wake up soon. You're welcome to come and see him to say your goodbyes."
The doctor's voice echoed continuously in my head. It's almost like a spell since it prompted my body to move on its own. One foot in front of another and so on, I found myself in front of Danny's room. I slid the sterile ivory door open to reveal Danny laying on his bed. His skin was tinted gray and his eyes glazed over to me. He smiled weakly.
"Hi," he wheezed.
I kneeled by his side and held his left hand. "I was...never.... going to make it am I?"
The tears that I've been holding fell like a waterfall. I was expressionless, only my eyes revealed the agony and torment within.
"Where's...everyone?" Danny asked.
"They're outside," I answered. "They'll be here in a bit."
"I'm scared," Danny confessed. A larger knot formed in my throat and a whimper almost escaped my mouth. I can only imagine how he felt.
"It's okay to feel that way," I whispered when an idea sparked in my head. Could there be a chance I could use my healing abilities without an angel pursuing me? I know my healing abilities can come back if a demon and an angel were after my hand. It wouldn't hurt to try.
As if in reflex, I gently placed one hand on Danny's forehead and one over his heart. I have no idea what I'm doing. I closed my eyes and cleared my mind only focusing on Danny's breathing. Warmth and soft vibration ebbed from the palms of my hand to my fingertips.
Confidence surged through me and continued focusing the energy leaving my hands to Danny's body. I gave it my all until white light blinded my still closed eyes and I fell. Expecting to fall on the hard floor, I fell on something soft and fluffy instead.
I opened my eyes and found myself on an enormous circular shaped bed with dark purple sheets and gold pillows. The room I woke up in was large with modern decor. To my right was a large window covered in black curtains. I pushed the curtains to the side and gasped at what my eyes saw.
"Where the fuck am I?" I wondered out loud. A neverending snow blizzard and darkness except for the twinkling stars enveloped the surroundings.
"Three guesses." a voice said behind me.
I turned around to see Aurelio standing a few feet from me.
"I have come to collect," he said calmly, his cerulean eyes boring into mine. The tattoo on my forearm throbbed and in a blink of an eye, he stood in front of me.
His breath caressed my cheeks and his thumb grazed over my cheekbone endearingly. His touch seemed to soothe the aching pain the tattoo on my forearm emitted.
"Tonight, show me how humans love..."
