14. Angelo's Return
Song: Unloving You by Alex Aiono
"Why are you here, Angelo?" I asked tiredly. Nighttime was falling faster than expected. One minute the sun was setting and the next the sky was pitch black, except for the few stars that littered across the sky
I didn't want to be anywhere near him. Seeing him makes it feel like I'm picking on the scab of an old wound that he left me. My hands curled into a fist, I really wanted to throw a punch at him. Maybe this aggression came from being stuck in a jail cell for over 2 hours. I probably reeked from being in that germ-infested place too.
"I want to talk to you. All of you." he said, his gaze sweeping over the rest of us before focusing on me. A hint of longing flickered across his expression and disappeared in the blink of an eye. Perhaps it was the exhaustion talking, but I wanted to trust him again and see what he has to say. If only it could be just the way it was before.
Everyone in the group was tired and willingly got in Angelo's expensive Porsche so he can take us to a place where we all can "talk". He saw my apprehension and my stiff posture towards him. I sat in the passenger's seat of his car in silence and focused on the beautiful swaying palm trees we passed by.
"I'm not going to hurt you, Celeste." I heard him say.
I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "How many times have I heard that before?" I retorted. Yes, I know I may seem immature but his betrayal still stung like a bitch. He chose power over our friendship.
"You won't hurt me, but you'll hurt the people I love?" I said glancing back at my friends. Ethan was sleeping with his head tilted back and mouth open. If I focused hard enough, I could probably see the drool threatening to slip from the corner of his mouth. Brittany slept with her head against the window with her arms crossed and her forehead crinkled with annoyance. Danny was sleeping against Brittany which I bet was the source of her annoyance in her sleep.
They all looked at peace, something I never see often ever since our lives were thrown into a demon's sick games. They're the people I love, and to a stranger, they may seem normal and carefree kids. They're not. Ethan was part of a murderous violent cult, Brittany bullied someone into suicide, and Danny received a heart from a not so willing donor. And me? I'm still listing the fucked up things I've done and rating them from worst to pure evil. We're all fucked up.
"I won't hurt you or your friends, Celeste." he stated. "I keep my word as a demon prince of the Nether Realm." he informed me. I looked at him mildly surprised because he was still a demon.
"I thought you'd be back to your angelic self, by now." I said sarcastically.
"And what makes you think that?" he asked, his eyes focused on the road ahead of him.
"There's a new demon in the Nether Realm." I replied softly. His car stopped in front of a place familiar to me. It was the house I stayed in when I was hiding from Medio Terrae. Old memories of Angelo and Daemon flooded my mind. I shook my head, blurring out these bittersweet memories that serve me no good.
"That's true, but that's not how it works between Heaven and the Nether Realm." he replied, looking at me. "I rule the first circle of hell which is Limbo. The unbaptized and virtuous pagans are sent to my circle. Aurelio rules the last circle, the place where treacherous betrayers of special relationships are sent."
"And...what about Daemon?" I asked.
Angelo gave me a sad smile before answering. "He ruled the 8th circle; the place for fraud and where seducers, liars, thieves, and flatterers are sent."
It made sense. Daemon did love his games and he was a thief who stole my heart without my permission. He seduced me with love and no matter how much I try, I could never forget the last conversation we had together as he laid on my arms, dying.
Ethan, Danny, and Brittany slowly woke up behind me, halting the informational conversation Angelo and I was having.
"Are we there yet?" Danny asked, yawning.

"What's the point of you telling me all this?" I asked Angelo. We were inside the safehouse. The interior has drastically changed. Before the safehouse had regular modern furniture you would see from Ikea. Instead, it had a light academia aesthetic to it.
"Now this is my style!" Brittany exclaimed, admiring the architecture and furniture in the safehouse. Its exterior looked like a regular one-story home in the LA suburbs but its interior told an entirely different story.
Danny and Ethan didn't pay any attention to the interior design. Instead, they focused on the kitchen's two refrigerators and large pantry.
"Dude, there's so much food!" my cousin said, thrilled at the beautiful sight before him. My heart wrenched against my chest. I remembered Ted. He loved food too.
Angelo motioned for me to sit down on one of the plush velvet chairs in the parlor. I sat down stiffly. My body wouldn't allow me to relax. It was on high alert as if any demon could show up any second.
"The purpose of me telling you all of this is so you know what Daemon had to do for you to become his Bridal Fruit. In the end..." he paused as if the next words he was about to say were too painful for him to hear. "In the end, you chose him. So the pull of the Nether Realm to you is much stronger than Heaven's pull." He offered me his hand.
I hesitated, unsure whether I should take his hand. As if seeing my apprehension, he quickly explained. "It's much easier for me to show you rather than tell."
Sighing, I closed my eyes and skeptically took his hand. Angelo's hand was larger than mine and it easily enveloped my tiny petite hand. My eyes widened in surprise when an electric shock zapped down my spine and my head began to feel tingly. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them again. I was in the Nether Realm.
