Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Tris
The next morning I left slightly earlier to try and find Lucas. I was ready to start the serum-testing and even though I know Tobias has mixed feelings about me doing this, I feel like it would help me and other people.
I walked briskly down the corridors, passing windows with early morning sun blinding me momentarily. The sun reminded me of the Pit at Dauntless, with its high, glass ceiling. I sighed from the memory of home.
Even though the Bureau gave me a home and reunited me with my life, Dauntless will always be my home. It was where I belonged most and nothing could change that.
I came to a stop at the glass doors of the laboratory where I would discover my full potential.
Pushing the door open, I was greeted with the quiet hum of scientific machines.
Looking around I noticed papers scattered over cluttered desks, different coloured liquids in numerous test tubes and pristine white lab coats slung over chairs or placed on hooks.
I walked in the room further and took a glance at some papers on a desk. Nothing caught my eye, until I saw in clear red print,
WASHINGTON EXPERIMENT: CODE NO. 367891
My curiosity peaked as I began to pick up the file. The sound of a door opening made me drop the sheet in record time.
Turning around I was met with the cold eyes of David.
“Ah, Tris! Lovely to see you again. Are you-“he cut of as he noticed the file just hitting the desk with a silent thud.
His eyes flicked down to the paper for a moment before setting back on me and hardening considerably.
“Tris, sometimes being curious and-“his fingers make quote marks, “’bending the rules’ are not good for us. I’m sure you remember the last time you got caught out doing just that, don’t you?”
My whole body went ridged as a shiver raked down my spine.
I cleared my throat and threw my shoulders back, “I’m not sure we’re on the same page here David.”
He chuckled humourlessly and clasped his hands behind his back. He took a few steps forward before answering.
“Hmm I had a feeling that would be your answer.”
“You don’t know anything about me, so don’t-“
He was by my side in a flash, his hot breath making me uncomfortable.
“But that’s where you are wrong, young Tris. I know too much about you.”
And with a final, threatening glare, he was gone.

Lucas walked in soon after that, apologizing for being late. His excuse went right over my head because, frankly, I didn’t care. My short encounter with David had left me slightly frazzled and confused. I replayed his words over and over in my head, ‘I know too much about you.’
The gears were turning in my head when Lucas snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Uh, Tris? You okay? We’re gonna go straight into the briefing for your serum testing. Okay?”
I nodded, still too wrapped up in my thoughts to remove the furrow between my brows.
He smiled a tight smile and placed his hand on the small of my back, leading me too a grey door I had not noticed before.
He turned the handle and I was greeted with a room very similar to the first but this one was much bigger. Scientists huddled around desks or just milled around looking important.
Lucas led me to the back of the vast room to yet another door. As we walked in I found myself in a room very similar to the fear landscape rooms at Dauntless. A reclined chair with wires hanging of off it and a small table adjoined on, sat in the middle of the room.
All the walls were concrete apart from the wall facing the chair. It had a one-way window spanning the horizontal length of the wall. Even though I couldn’t see the faces behind the glass, I knew all eyes were on me.
A petite woman walked into the room soon after, she wore a lab coat and clutched a clipboard and a bunch of papers to her chest. Her auburn hair was sprinkled around her shoulders and slight stress lines marked her face. Wide blue eyes rounded by black eyeliner stared at me.
“Hello Tris, I’m Kathrine.” She stuck her hand out to shake and I took her hand almost uncertainly.
She gripped my hand firmly and her eyes seemed to look right into my soul.
“I am the head scientist of this, experiment and today we are going to go over the serums and the plan we have for you. Just remember Tris, a lot of people are counting on you, David being one of them.”
{A/N: Hi guys’ thank you so much for the lovely comments I received on my last chapter, they really helped. I want to write a lot more now so yay!
I picture Lucas Benedict as Nicholas Hoult and Katherine Moore as Andrea Riseborough. There’s a picture of Lucas to the side.
Next update will be soon - sorry this one took so long - love you all,
Kaitlyn ♡}
