I'm going to tell you a secret that I wish someone had told me.

No matter how badly you are bleeding right now, no matter how deep your wound runs today, no matter how sharp the pain in your chest is tonight, please know this.

You think you *are* your pain. You think you *are* your sadness or your anger. You think you are your wounds. In this moment you won't be able to see outside of them. But here's my secret: You are none of them. You are made up of layers. And your life is the crucible. It feels like this fire is destroying you. But it is not. It is burning, yes. You are walking through flames; no one can deny that. You're a bloody warrior. But these flames are only removing old layers, like old, dead skin. You will come out the other side. I promise. You will be new. You have so many layers, my dear sister. Like shells we outgrow. These are the cages we got too big for.

Let the expansion begin.
