Remy- I
I sat down in the velvet seat in front of the stage with my fellow colleagues. Everyone was looking through the pamphlets the showed the line up for the show and I was personally surprised on the fact that it was packed.
Some people were even standing in the back just to see the last showing of Swan Lake.
Cliché for a ballet, but I was a lover of the arts, even though I was plunged into the medical field at such a young age, I was unable to dabble into the more artistic side of professions.
My friend Peter leaned down to whisper in my ear and mumbled something about a fellow colleague fancying one of the dancers and chuckled.
The lights dimmed and the mumbles throughout the room were silenced.
For what seemed like ten minutes but was probably five, nothing but a soft organ played in the background but still no dancers.
Suddenly the curtains opened and the orchestra began to play. The lights illuminated the stage and the show began.
The talent I witnessed was completely mind blowing, but what caught my eye was one of the background dancers. She moved gracefully and subtly, but she was not the star of the show in this number, her face was covered in makeup and yet I saw the intensity in her eyes.
I glanced around the other dancers and watched as they were dragged away from the crowd of the show and whisked away into their thoughts and love for dance.
It wasn't like being a doctor and dramatically cutting into people to begin surgeries. There was no type of love like that in the world. No, I got that love from saving a life or helping someone become a better them physically.
But watching these people dance was certainly breathtaking and entrancing.
But it was that one ballerina that caught my eye. She was the one who truly entranced me.

My colleagues and I, gathered backstage to see the dancers, mostly them waiting for one person in particular and I trailed off to wait by the side of the stage that didn't have people crowding the area.
After placing the bouquet of flowers Gavin had me hold while he awaited his niece down on a stool. I watched ahead as Peter, Gavin and Stacy waited for Mandy to emerge from the dressing rooms.
I saw a small brunette come out first. She had a large oversized sweatshirt and the bottom half of her costume she wore for the performance, her hair in a high ponytail and with a large Adidas bag in her hand
"Are you waiting for someone?" She asked me, her dark eyes glistening back at mine.
She still had some of her performance makeup on and she peeled off her fake eyelashes and held them in her free hand.
"Friends dragged me along. So I'm waiting for them," I reply for a moment, she was shorter than me and very thin. But looked quite healthy.
"Dragged you along? I'm guessing you aren't a fan of ballet?" She says, moving past me to sit on the ground and tie her sneakers.
"I have nothing against it." I say with a shrug. She pressed her lips together in a thin line and raised an eyebrow.
"Let me guess, you're either a football chick or obsessed with soap operas?" Her accusation made me chuckle and I suspected she was try to ward me off.
She seemed annoyed.
"Neither. I'm pretty wrapped up in my work most of the time. So in my spare time, I'm not really caught up in television or sports." I explain.
Why was I telling her what I did in my spare time? That made no sense.
"Work? What's your profession?" She asked and slowly stood up, picking up her bag again.
"I'm a doctor."
"You look quite young to be a doctor." I don't think she wanted me to hear that statement because she cringed after she said it.
I laughed again, this time she smiled softly in return.
"No, I'm actually fresh out of medical school."
"So you decided that coming to a ballet would be a great way to spend free time? I'm both flattered and surprised." The girl spoke.
"I have a love for the arts." I paused and extended my hand.
"I'm Remy Castello. Doctor. Lover of the arts." I finally properly introduce myself and she gives me a suspicious smile and then finally shakes my hand.
"Audrey Hall. Ballerina. Lover of nachos and yoga." She beamed and I laughed for a third time.
"I'm not as sophisticated as you. Since you're prehistoric and all. You have man many years on me." She added with a wide grin and I snorted through my nose.
"You're very charismatic Audrey." I respond and she flutters her eyes dramatically.
"I'll put that on my next resume." She says sarcastically.
But I can see her smile and her tan cheeks brightened again and I noticed she was blushing.
"You danced wonderfully back there," I was only trying to be respectful and I could tell she noticed. Perhaps she wasn't used to be praised by her element?
"Says you and 50 other people tonight who couldn't tell if I was the tree or the bird." She says sarcastically but her nervous laugh was genuine.
"I noticed. Your stocking had a rip on the knee." I pointed out and her smile faded for a moment.
She was shocked evidently.
"Even from the front you wouldn't have noticed." She whispered, her smile appearing again and I shrugged lightly.
"I'm a very observant person." I say smirking.
"Well that both assures and terrifies me."
"Why is that?" I question.
"Because if you saw it, I wonder who else did? Right before the curtain opened, I took a tumble and ripped my stocking. I was assured it wasn't noticeable." Her accent was thick as she said this and I licked my lips briefly then nodded.
"Well it didn't take away from your amazing performance." Before I can say anything else, I hear my name from behind me.
Peter's calling me and I know that's my cue that Mandy is near them.
"My colleagues are summoning me." I mutter and Audrey smirks.
"Go ahead. I have to search for my family anyways." She says and hesitantly smiles again.
She had a beautiful smile...well she was beautiful in general.
"You should bring them over. You might know Mandy-" before I can finish, Audrey's only shaking her head.
"This is her moment as well. I don't want to mix in on that. But I'm sure if I wish to have another appointment with you doctor, I'll schedule one." She says.
Even though she didn't know where I worked and I would probably never see her again. It still made me grin.
I turn to quickly grab a rose from the 12 flower bouquet, Gavin was going to give his niece.
Audrey scoffed, then giggled, covering her face and I handed her the flower with a slight head nod.
"Have a wonderful night Audrey and many more wonderful performances." I whisper and she grips the stem, her face brightens and her cheeks were still red.
"Thank you Remy."
And that's the last I say before grabbing the bouquet and turning to join the rest of my colleagues.
Mandy scurried over towards us, of course many people pointing her out. After all she was the star of the show.
I didn't know any of the ballet lingo so I probably had it all wrong.
"Mandy, your performance was divine!" Stacy exclaimed leaning into to hug her niece tightly.
I respected all of my colleagues but I personally couldn't stand Stacy's voice. It sounded like nails on a chalkboard.
"Thank you! I was so nervous! Could you tell? Remy, Peter! You two showed up!" Mandy giggled with glee and scurried over to wrap her arms around us.
"By force-" Peter began to mumble but I elbowed him in the ribcage and he coughed and the babbled.
"I mean of course we did. We wouldn't have missed it for the world kiddo." Peter assures and Mandy turns to hug me.
"Hey, I'm 21. Not 16. I'm not a kid." Mandy says with a playful smile and then turns to hug her uncle.
"And I'm 33. When you were born, I was riding my bike while you were shitting yourself. You're still a kid to me." Peter ruffled her hair and smiled.
Mandy rolled her eyes and then turned to her aunt and uncle.
"I think we should go celebrate by going out! Even if it's for a few drinks." Mandy said, batting her eyelashes and I groaned internally.
"Ah don't listen to her Gavin. She just wants an excuse to get free drinks and get drunk off her ass!" Peter called out and Mandy turned around with innocent eyes.
"Little ole me? Of course not! I barely even get drunk! Come on, I know this really nice bar that's not too far from here and I want you all to come! Please." Mandy turned and gave me puppy dog eyes.
"Sure, why not. Besides, you deserve it dear." Stacy said and I started shaking my head.
"You guys go ahead."
"Oh come on Remy. Just a few drinks." Peter said, and then he whispered in my ear.
"If you leave me with them. I'll never forgive you." I held back a fit of laughter.
"You bury yourself in work all day. Let loose." Gavin adds.
"Please Remy." Mandy asked through her lashes.
I exhaled deeply and rolled my eyes. "Fine. Fine." I agreed and they all gave me noises of appreciation.
"Thank you! I'll go start the car!" Mandy calls out.
"If she throws up on me, I'm smacking the hell out of you." I point my finger at Gavin, or course joking and he chuckles and throws his hands up in defeat.
"You got it Remy."

The place we arrived at was slightly full. It wasn't a bar but it sure felt like it was with the amount of drinking and such a small area. People of ages 21 and up flooded the area and luckily we found a place to sit.
Mandy went off to get herself a drink and Stacy continued to banter on her performance.
I had no intentions of drinking due to the fact I had to drive home and an early morning of work.
I had only stood up for just a moment to check on Mandy before a man approached me.
He had black hair and he looked like he had been eating greasy foods all day. He looked slimy but was wearing a suit with a Rolex watch. With all the money it looked like he had, you'd think he would've showered.
"Might I say, you look very exotic. Your beauty is breathtaking." He slurred, I couldn't tell if he was drunk or if he was sober.
He just seemed like something was wrong with him.
Typically if I was every complimented, it was something to do with exotic. I come from a very mixed heritage but I identified myself as black since my father was from South Africa.
But I had light skin like my mother and frankly it was more of an insult than a compliment.
I said nothing, instead rolled my eyes and continued to search for Mandy.
"Can I buy you a drink? I'd love to hear about your day." The slimy man leaned forward, flashing his white teeth at me and I scrunched my face up in disgust.
"I'm not interested," I reply flatly. I noticed someone else had came through the door.
It was Audrey, the ballerina I had met earlier. She was with a group of friends and was wearing her black dance pants, sneakers and a sweatshirt.
They all gathered around the bar area and I didn't notice the guy was still talking until I felt Peter's hand on my shoulder.
"She said she's not interested." Peter mumbled and the guy looked taken aback and nodded his head.
"Sorry. Being a ladies man didn't give me a radar for taken women." He murmured and I scoffed and rolled my eyes
"I'm a ladies lady," Was the last that I said before turning back to take a seat next to Stacy again.
I ignored the rest of what the man had to say and looked back up over at Audrey, but her and her friends had already left. Even though I didn't even want to come to the performance tonight. Despite the creep at the bar, I was glad I did.

The next morning at work, I arrived 15 minutes early. I had praised myself in my head because I had called it a night early after the small incident at the bar. I had a few interns coming in for the day and two appointments and then I was done for the day. I had plans.
"You always take these interns straight on. Frankly, they annoy the shit out of me." Peter interrupted my thought train. I was sorting out everything I had planned to do today.
"I like it because I get to see young adults with a passion for this. I see it in their eyes." I explain as I swivel in my chair to look at him.
Peter had a clipboard in his hand and he had a plotting expression across his face.
"Now a days, you just see the boredom in this hospital." He murmurs and I squint my eyes.
"What do you want?" I ask and he extends his clipboard for me to grab. I notice that it's paperwork for the interns today and how many people he had to work with. "I have the same thing." I remind him, extending the clipboard back.
"But we have different times." Now I knew Peter just wanted to switch and I frowned at him.
"Ask Kelly." I reply, referring to a children's doctor who would do just about anything you asked her to.
"She's a pediatrician. You're the only other doctor here who is in the same branch and field as I am." His voice is soft and I roll my eyes slowly.
"My group comes a few hours before my appointments for the day," I pause for a moment, slowly realizing how this could work.
"Exactly. So this could give you more time. Please Rem? I have a ton of work to do before I can take any interns. Plus I had to squeeze another appointment in before 2." Peter begs and I glance at the names on the list. I frown for a moment and look back at the clock.
"What time did you say your group came in?" I ask him slowly and he grabs my wrist and helps me rise to my feet.
"Now." And he pushes me through the door. I lift my head until I see a familiar brunette alongside 6 other students. She has a bandage on her forehead and she looks out of place. She's fumbling with her papers and biting the inside of her cheek.
It's Audrey.
