My eyes flickered over the dead body of Papa Tunde on the floor as Elijah, Klaus and Marcel looked up at my entrance.

I walked into the compound raising my eyebrows at the trio. When Rebekah called me here, she didn't say anything about dead bodies. I guess that's to be expected since the whole Papa Tunde chaos.

"Did I arrive at the wrong time?" I asked.

While the Mikaelsons were busy being obnoxious Original vampires, I took a few days off. Staying in a city that reminded me of the fact that Davina was dead wasn't exactly motivational.

So I drowned my sorrows outside of New Orleans until I returned to a functioning state. However, I didn't exactly inform anyone of my absence.

"You're late actually. The city only faces imminent danger while you wander off." Klaus said.

"Protecting this city isn't my job, it's yours. Which you're failing at from what I've heard." I said.

New Orleans may be my home, but it's never been a source of joy. Protecting it isn't something that I agreed to. Sure, I cared about protecting the people that I trusted who lived in it.

That number has been decreasing as of late. It's not like I expected Klaus to understand that. This was his home, his project, for centuries.

"If you two could stop squabbling, we have a more urgent matter." Elijah said.

I huffed at his words as he crouched down to inspect the body. From I've been told, Papa Tunde has already tried to kill Klaus and Marcel so I don't see how this isn't a celebration.

But something tells me they wouldn't be so worried if there wasn't something to be worried about.

"Can I get you anything, brother? A magnifying glass? A pipe perhaps?" Klaus asked.

I huffed. "Less sarcasm would be nice."

A smirk formed on his lips as his eyes found mine. All signs of resentment because of my absence had disappeared which made me believe that he was never angry in the first place.

Klaus Mikaelson was difficult to comprehend and he only seemed to want to make it more difficult to do so.

"You have a theory you'd like to share with us, Niklaus?" Elijah asked.

"Back in the day when witches wanted to send a threat, they'd just kill a chicken and leave it on your doorstep." Marcel said.

A snort left my lips at his comment. If I were to send threats that way, New Orleans would run out of chickens. Most of them would end up at the coven's doorstep.

There were a few of them in New Orleans yet they all seemed to merge into one when it came to recruiting me. Though they've been less of a hassle since all the elders died.

"It's a rather large and ominous chicken, wouldn't you say?" Elijah replied.

Not only is it an outdated way of making threats, it also doesn't make sense. Papa Tunde was supposed to be a powerful witch yet here lies his body and no one from his enemies has claimed the kill.

There has to be a new player in town, someone who wants to prove their strength by eliminating the previous threat.

"If he was supposed to be their prized fighter, why leave him for dead in our front yard?"

Rebekah walked in with the corners of her mouth lifted up in amusement. Seeing all of us inspecting a dead body must have been one hell of a show.

Her eyes found mine and relief flashed in her eyes for a second before it was gone. She, along with Cami and Hayley, had been spamming me with messages.

Guess Rebekah needed to see I was alright with her own eyes.

"Well don't you all look cheery? Listen to this, a girl has literally exploded from a grave today while Sabine was giving a tour of the dead. It was Monique Deveraux." Rebekah said.

Monique was one of the Harvest girls and Sophie's sister. The main reason for the Mikaelsons' arrival was Sophie's determination to get her back.

All this time I thought she was nuts, especially when the Harvest failed and Davina didn't come back to life and neither did any of the other girls.

"What?" Klaus asked.

"The tourists thought it was part of the show but the witches are celebrating like it's some kind of bloody miracle." Rebekah said.

Maybe I should have stayed in town after all. If Monique returned from the dead, then something must've changed while I was away.

The Harvest might be working, just not in the way we expected it to, which means Davina could be brought back the same way that Monique was.

"Maybe it is. They think all hope was lost but suddenly a harvest girl is resurrected. This is how we're gonna get Davina back." Marcel said.

I looked at Papa Tunde's body again. Well, of course. Those two events were connected.

"Papa Tunde dies and suddenly Monique's back? I can't be the only one connecting the dots here. Each Harvest girl's place was taken by another dead witch. If we kill the witch that took Davina's place, then we get her back." I explained.

Marcel nodded at me in agreement. There was a silent deal being made between us. We were both going to do whatever it took to get Davina back.

As the fact that I might be able to save her sunk in, I allowed myself to hope again. Maybe I am capable of protecting her.

"I have a theory of who one of them could be. Celeste." Hayley said.

She showed us Davina's pictures forming a face. She's got some brains in her. I always preferred werewolves to vampires. Though I dislike both species.

"I mean it's gotta be. Davina was trying to tell us, she was drawing pictures of Celeste. She was warning us that a great evil was coming." Hayley argued.

This is the first time I've ever heard of a Celeste. Yet everyone here seems to know exactly who she is. Eh, I'm sure Rebekah will be willing to fill me in.

"First, Papa Tunde returns to settle old scores, now your murdered lover is back. This isn't witches attacking vampires. They're declaring war on us." Klaus stated.

I opened one of the pizza boxes while no one was looking and took a piece. This was pretty mediocre pizza for New Orleans.

"Hey, those are not for you!"

I rolled my eyes at Hayley's scolding as I plopped down on the couch. The plantation was more modern than the compound but neither was decorated in my taste.

"Would you relax? There's plenty of snacks left for your werewolf buddies." I argued.

Tonight was a full moon which meant that all of her wolf friends were going to turn human for a few hours. That's why Hayley decided to throw some kind of party for them.

She put her hands on her hips. "When I asked you to come here, it was to help out. Not eat all of their food."

I shrugged before taking another bite of pizza. The wolves can hunt for food in the woods. I can't. Buying food requires money that is currently very scarce.

"I'm capable of multitasking." I replied.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. A quick glance at it showed Marcel's name on the screen. I declined the call. I don't even know how he got my phone number.

The answer to that question walked in through the door. Rebekah was carrying another food delivery and some groceries for some kind of meal they were going to make.

"Rebekah, please tell your lover boy to stop pestering me with calls." I sat up finishing my slice.

His name popped up again on the screen. A huff left my lips as I declined it once again. I had no interest in speaking with him today.

The compound chat about Papa Tunde and Celeste was enough Marcel time for me.

Rebekah crossed her arms over her chest. "It could be important."

I looked at her before getting up and picking up the groceries. She and Hayley followed me as I carried them to the kitchen.

"Or it could be an utter waste of my time. No, thank you."

Hayley got a chopping board and I handed her some of the vegetables. While she did that, Rebekah jumped up on the counter and faced me.

"What is with you two? One moment you're a united force, the other you're bickering about every little thing." she said.

Davina was the only thing connecting us and she's... gone. For now. We didn't agree on much other than that we would protect her with our lives.

I shrugged. "We were on opposite sides until Davina."

The room grew quiet at the mention of her name. Losing her was one of the worst feelings I'd ever experienced.

I don't know what I'd be like if there wasn't a loophole. If she were truly dead forever. Somehow I don't think I'd be me for a long time.

"What about Klaus?"

I looked up as Hayley mentioned his name. Rebekah glanced at her before turning her attention back to me. Her interest was peaked.

"Yeah, what about Klaus?" she asked.

I raised my eyebrows not understanding what they meant. Both of them seemed to be thinking about the same thing.

"What about him?"

I leaned against the wall as they shared a look. The idea of them teaming up against me was daunting. It was usually me and Hayley against Rebekah.

"Well, he's done worse things than Marcel and you don't seem to dislike him." Hayley commented.

I frowned. "I disagree. If anything, I dislike them equally."

A blatant lie. That's what it was. Klaus has given me many reasons to dislike him but I never found myself repulsed by him.

He had many layers to him and each one was carefully wrapped. If anything, all his paradoxes only made me find him more fascinating.

Rebekah smiled. "You're a terrible liar, Olivia Hade."

I rolled my eyes as Hayley let out a quiet laugh. There was a kitchen rag next to me and I threw it at Rebekah. She caught it with ease.

"Since we're all asking questions, who the hell is Celeste?" I asked.

Klaus mentioned something about her but I wasn't paying that much attention. My focus was on Davina and her possible return from the dead.

"Ah, that would be Elijah's dead witch lover-" Rebekah said.

"-who's apparently not so dead." Hayley added.

"-and who Klaus got killed centuries ago." Rebekah finished.

It took me a moment to absorb that information. Well, that whole situation definitely isn't awkward for Elijah and Klaus.

Or maybe that's a regular occurrence for the Mikaelson household.

"It's never boring in your family, is it?"

As we prepared the stew for tonight, the three of us continued talking about the recent events in New Orleans. It was a nice way of staying informed.

Each of us knew something that the other didn't about the factions. Hayley explained how she was a Crescent werewolf, Rebekah told me that Josh was still alive and I told them of Sophie reuniting with Monique.

The only reason I knew that was because I overheard it on my way to the plantation. I had no intention of speaking to Sophie any time soon. She did slit Davina's throat.

By the time night fell, I decided to head back home. There were a few werewolves that I did not want to see tonight. Hayley and Rebekah were rather forgiving of my exit.

For a moment, they made me feel normal again. As if our city wasn't on the verge of war and as if Davina wasn't gone. I think that was their plan all along.

To be there for me in a way that I didn't even know I needed.
