Chapter IV

I had to kill myself? I mean, I'd kinda figured as much, but now? I'd just found out Jadzia was alive. How was fate so cruel?

Okay, I'll admit I know I'll just have to drop off the map. No one will know what happened. I'll just stay with ASI until it all blows over. I'll dye my hair, get a pigment injection, changing the colour of my eyes. Then no one'll recognize me. Get a haircut. I'll have to create a new, public alias. How to Create A New Identity Bucket List. That should be a real list. Wait. Never mind. Then we'd have a lot of people and nothing left of times past. Forget I said that. If that becomes public, then we'd have anarchy on our hands, not something we needed right now. Besides, pigment injections were only available in the spy industry.

I sat on my bed, looking at the dark red electric violin Jadzia had given me before she went to war. I hadn't played it since I'd gotten the fake letter that she'd 'died.' I pulled it out of its case, tuning it by ear. I grabbed my bow, launching into a piece I'd composed. My fingers flew over the fingerboard, pressing the strings to it, letting the music ring. I glanced at my wrist, reading the words written there in the dark purple, fancy script. They looked like I'd written them there myself, but I hadn't. Just like the rest of the population, the words had appeared when I'd turned 17. The Soul Words appeared in your favorite color and your favorite font on any part of your body, barring some spots. They were the first words of your soulmate. Jadzia's said Oh, that's terrible, the first words she'd heard Aaron say. Her words went photo-negative, as a reminder of the first words said.

My words said Is this Adamaris Rivera? The same words Aadolf had said to me. They'd changed colors right after he'd said them. Originally, they were mint. I put my violin up, standing by my mirror. I picked up my phone and called the unknown number from ASI. I got an Unavailable message and hung up. I'd have to go to ASI and get Aadolf's number. I blushed at the thought of how his vampiric eyes studied mine, then shook my head. I was a spy. No reason to get attached. No need to get attached to something that could be used against me in a hostage situation, no matter how attractive they were.

I kicked myself. I needed to get over this. I didn't need distractions, anyways. I sighed, tapping my comm piece, asking for my plane to be ready within the hour.

I stepped into ASI, walking to Aadolf's office. As I knocked on his door, an agent tapped me on the shoulder and told me Aadolf couldn't be disturbed. I shrugged him off, looking at him. "You're going to stop me-his soulmate-from speaking to him?" The agent looked skeptical.

"What do your Words say?" I held up my arm for him to see. His eyes skimmed the words then he looked back at my face. "Ma'am, anyone could've said those words." I shook my head.

"The world knows me as either Alison Dvörak or Madylyn Kramer. Only the ones here at ASI know my birth name," I stated, beginning to get quite agitated.

"It could still be anyone here, ma'am." I groaned, bobbing my head from side to side.

"Yes, but do his words say, 'How long have you been tracking me?'" His eyes widened, showing their violet/green ringed irises.

"How do you know that?" I smirked.

"Because those were the first words I said to him."

"I-I'm terribly sorry, ma'am. I had no idea who you were." I patted his head.

"That's quite alright. You're just on a list of the whole world." He nodded, and I pulled open the door of Aadolf's room. Aadolf's head jerked up and he looked at me.

"Adamaris!" His voice was overly cheerful.

"Aadolf." I returned his greeting, with much less enthusiasm, noticing he'd changed out of his suit.

"Why so glum?" I shrugged.

"Oh, maybe the agent outside who I had to show my Soul Words to so I could get in here," I said. He nodded once.

"Agent Miller can be quite...bothersome," he said. I quirked an eyebrow and nodded. "Where...Where are your Soul Words?" I sighed, holding up my wrist. He made an 'Oh' movement with his head before pulling at the back of his collar, tugging the shirt over his head. I blinked, not really expecting that. He placed the shirt on his desk, and I looked at his chest, finding the pale pink words that were written on his right pec. I looked away, blushing deeper after noticing that, and heard rustling as he struggled back into his shirt again.

When he'd finally wrestled his shirt on, he walked over and wrapped his arms around my waist, hugging me. I hugged him back, inhaling the scent of pinewood. "That was...awkward," I stated, my blush starting to dissipate. He smiled, looking down at me. Kissing my forehead, he stepped back and I looked at him. He held a hand out, and I passed him my phone. With a few quick taps, he entered his contact information into it, saving the contact. I got my phone back, along with his personal phone. I added in my contact info, snapped a picture of myself and added it as the contact photo. I saved the information, handing him back his phone.

"Jadzia is upstairs with Zella. Here, I'll escort you," he said, holding his arm out. I smiled, wrapping my hand around his lower arm, near his elbow. He walked to the elevator, opened it, and pressed the button for the top floor.

When we stepped out, Jadzia smiled, before looking to Aadolf. "Did you give her her card?" He shook his head, digging in his jeans pocket and pulling out a plastic card. I took it, placing it in my pocket and looking around. I made sure to remember most of the details this time.

"Guess what?" I said. Jadzia and Aadolf looked at me. "NOTE wants Madylyn to kill Alison, and I haven't been to JKAL yet," I stated. Both of their eyes widened, and I nodded.
