Chapter III
I stood in the elevator doorway, staring at Jadzia. Zella let go of my hand, running over to her, hugging her. Jadzia had stood up and was watching me. She smiled, walking over to me. She wrapped her arms around me, resting her head on my shoulder.
"It's been so long, Ada," she said. I returned her hug, squeezing her tight.
"Yeah, it has." I pulled back, hands on her shoulders. "Y-You died in the war." She looked at the floor, shaking her head.
"No. Aadolf here helped me fake it so we could get you here, to ASI." Aadolf bowed his head a little at the recognition. "I'm actually the founder of ASI."
I gaped. "Th-The letter from the U.S. Air Force. The colonel who arrived at my house..." I drifted off. "The funeral."
"The letter was printed on official paper, the 'colonel' was Agent Martin-who showed you to Aadolf's office-and the funeral was closed casket. The casket was empty." I blinked at my friend.
"You made me think you were dead when you could've just asked me to join? Do you know how rude that is?" She smiled lightly.
"Of course I do. It's called strategy, Ada. One'd think that as a spy, you'd understand it." I smiled faintly.
"Well, yeah. Why do you think I have aliases at NOTE and JKAL?" Her smile widened.
"I've heard about Alison and Madylyn. Congratulations on signing the Hiraeth Pact. And on burning down that hideous Serendipity Building." I blushed a little as Aadolf turned towards me.
"That was you?" I nodded.
"I thought you knew everything about me?" He smirked slightly.
"Jadzia doesn't share everything with me," he said, his dark, vampiric eyes shining with wonder.
"My two biggest achievements and you didn't tell him, Jaz?" She smirked faintly.
"He loves you, Ada. I wanted to save your biggest ones for when he could see you." I blushed, glancing at Aadolf, seeing he was scratching his cheek. "Yes, he loves you in more than a platonic way and he's just met you. But I can see that's not gonna be a problem." My blush deepened, as did Aadolf's. I looked to my best friend's daughter, who had fallen asleep on the couch.
My comm piece crackled to life, and I sighed, holding a finger up and walking to a corner of the room. "Yes?"
"Agent Kramer. You're needed at headquarters." I sighed. That was my cue to get back to NOTE.
"I'll be right there. Give me half an hour."
"You have forty-five minutes." I walked back to the others.
"I've gotta go. NOTE has a mission for me." Jadzia nodded, and Aadolf followed suit, albeit reluctantly. I hugged Jadzia and shook Aadolf's hand. Looking to Jadzia, I smiled softly. "You know how to get ahold of me." She smiled.
"And I will be doing that. Go, before they put the whole of Ritazn on lockdown, wondering where you are." I nodded, stepping into the elevator and heading to the hangar.
I stepped into my NOTE superior's office. Kadir Trevino looked at me, windows tinted and door locked behind me. "Kramer, I have a special mission for you." I stepped forward, standing five feet away.
"Yes, Trevino?" I asked.
"I need you to eliminate someone from JKAL. Someone who is a huge threat to NOTE." I made a 'go on' motion.
"I need you to eliminate Alison Dvörak."
