After the devastating Battle of Sokovia, Hunter finds himself torn apart by the loss of those he considered family. The Avengers, are now a constant reminder of everything he's lost. The world, with its endless conflicts and betrayals, feels more hostile than ever. Wracked by grief, anger and a sense of abandonment, Hunter's resentment toward the heroes who failed him grows into a bitter hatred. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when Tony Stark, recognizing Hunter's superhuman abilities, offers him a place in the Avengers' compound. Tony insists that Hunter must learn to control his powers, forcing him to face his demons and come to terms with the very people he despises.

As part of his new "rehabilitation," Hunter is also enrolled in school—another inconvenience he must endure. Amid the chaos of adjusting to a new life, Hunter's most irritating challenge comes in the form of a superhero, the so-called "Spider-Man." With his endlessly energetic personality and insistent optimism, the boy seems to be on a mission to get under Hunter's skin at every turn. Reluctantly, Hunter finds himself thrust into a partnership with the young hero, navigating the trials of school, super-powered missions, and the ongoing battle between his need for revenge and the possibility of finding new allies in a world that no longer feels like his own.
