Chapter One: Predator VS. Prey
Hey guys! I hope you like my book. I've been writing it for a while and I hope to get feedback.
.....
Yvette's POV
Today just isn't my day, this week just isn't my week, this month just isn't my month, and this life just isn't my life. And I've been saying this line ever since I graduated high school two years ago. No one never knows what life has in store for them. With the life I had planned out, I thought I already knew. But I guess fate had other plans for me.
"What's taking so long? He should be dead by now." Jimin fussed through the earpiece. I've been sitting in the same spot for the last twenty minutes, waiting for the soon to be a dead guy to walk up to me.
"It isn't about you making yourself known. It's about them coming to you." I mumbled into the glass cup. I try to limit my drinking, while on the job. Only god knows what'll happen if I screw it up because I'm drunk.
"There are over one hundred people there. What the hell makes you think he'll come to you?" He asked disbelieved. But just like predators hunt their prey, prey to lure their predators. Despite my desire to work alone, my temporary partner, Jeongguk, is assigned to lead Jackson my way.
"Well looky at this be-utiful cookie. And who might you be?" Jackson said walking up behind me. He laid against the bar counter, staring flirtatiously at me.
"Well. I didn't know I actually caught someone's attention. The cost of this dress was actually worth something." I flirted back.
"And what makes you think that?" He teased
"Well, I did get a predator as handsome as you." That laid the icing on the cake. I could see the way his eyes changed from flirty to hungry. In his mind, he thinks he has me wrapped around his little finger. But boy do I have a surprise for him.
"Why don't we get out of here, you and me? Your mom won't mind, would she?" He said coming a little closer. His hand was resting on my knee, squeezing it every now and then.
"I don't live with my mom handsome. But before I do go anywhere with you, what's your name?" I asked turning his way.
"Jackson. Now, why don't you follow me? There's an empty passenger seat with your name on it." And there's an empty gravestone with yours. He took my hand and started to lead me out of the club. I shot Jeongguk a look, indicating our target was on the move. He nodded his head.
"Where do you live anyway? I don't exactly have a car, so it better be a walking distance from a bus stop at least." I said struggling behind him. He didn't answer my question but instead continued to drag me through the dark streets. The only sound that could be heard, was the scraping of my heels against the concrete ground.
"Hello? I'm talking here." I tried again
"I can hear. Just shut up, until we get there. And then I want to hear your voice." He said laughing deeply at the end. I should've killed him when I had the chance.
"I should've killed you by now. I'm ready to go." I mumbled angrily under my breath. I grabbed the knife that was strapped against my thigh and went into position.
"What did I say-"
I refused to let him finish his sentence, his voice already annoying me to my end. Well, his end. I drove the knife in deeper, causing him to drop to his knees, and blood to pool out of his mouth.
"W-what the h-hell?" He coughed through the blood. I took the knife out only to stab it in his thigh, that's where a very important artery lies. I've been doing this long enough to know.
"Look it's nothing personal. You seem like a really nice- OK I'm sorry. I can't lie to you. Your horrible. If I had the choice, I wouldn't even bother you, but it's business." I explained with a shrug. He opened his mouth to say something, but all that's coming out is blood.
"What was that?"
"I-I-I'm going t-to kill you-u." He stuttered.
"Honestly, it looks the other way around to me." I laughed. I noticed how his eyes started to get heavier and heavier. I planted my heel on his forehead and kicked him to the floor.
"D.I.Y? What's taking so long? I'm ready to go, and the boss is anxious. I swear if you screw this u-" Jimin started back through the earpiece
"What are you talking about? I lured him out. He's practically dead now. JK didn't tell you?" I said back while watching Jackson draw his last breath. I looked around the area for any possible witnesses, but everything was clear.
"No, he didn't."
"Well, Jackson's dead. Tell boss while I find JK. D.I.Y out."
I walked steadily back into the club, checking my dress every now and then for loose drops of blood. When I was for sure I was clean, I started to walk more confidentially into the club.
"Where the hell is he?" I asked myself. The first mission with partners and he's missing. While searching the club, my eyes locked with a familiar pair. He looked me up and down quickly then looked away. He's very well known and respected in the work I do.
I wasn't surprised when my eyes landed on Jeongguk getting drunk at the bar counter. I forced my way through the crowd, and as soon as I get close to him I placed my hand on his shoulder
"Let's go JK. You don't have to force yourself to stay anymore." I said into his ear so no one else would hear.
"Thanks. I don't think I could've stayed anymore." He said muffled through his hands. I took one of them and pulled him through the crowd. I still felt his eyes follow us through the crowd, but I didn't pay any mind.
"Hurry up and get in. I'm tired, my eyes hurt, it's getting late, I smell like alcohol......"
Jimin's rambles went on and on, but I didn't pay attention. I stared out the window with my mind everywhere. One side of my mind was focused on Jeongguk. I know his head is in a totally different world right now. On how life used to be. Was it better or worse? But at the end of the day, did he have a choice? Then the other half was on me. When will the signature moment come where my life will change for the better? Or was that it? Was the moment I was introduced to this lifestyle, the moment my life changed for the better?
