Chapter Five: 9 Lives

Yvette's POV

I wonder what got over me that night. Was it just peer pressure or stupidity? Whichever one, I regret every single thing. I failed. I sat in the corner of the basement room for the last hour. The house was deserted. Not a single soul in sight.

Phone rings

I looked down at the vibrating object. This was the 23rd phone call I received since I became conscious. Little from Hoseok, most from Jimin, but this time Jeongguk's number flashed on the screen. Since when did we exchange numbers?

I internally debated whether to answer the phone. I had a good 10 seconds left before the call would automatically end. I decided to let it ring when I finally took notice of the date. It was nearly two days since I last left the house. I jumped up from the cold floor but wobbled on my feet. I haven't eaten in two days. I need to go home.

By now the call had ceased. I reached down for the phone so I can call the first person that comes to mind. Jimin's contact highlighted the top of the screen. It only rang once before he answered.

"Hello?" He answered frantically

"It's me. Can you come to pick me up?" I asked hoarsely. He let out a sigh of relief

"I have your location. I'm on my way. You better explain when I get there." He said. I hung up the phone while leaning my body against the wall. There were still empty beer cups and alcohol bottles layering the floor and stairwell. Out the corner of my eye, I found a small folded paper that read "read me".

I'm sorry about what happened. I hope you're okay. -Mark

I crumbled the paper in anger. They got away. I failed the mission. When Hoseok figures out, I'll never hear the end of it. Tae-Hyung must have acted on his own. That's the only reasonable explanation. He drugged my drink and escaped while I was out. In a way, he saved me and Suga from death.

I left the basement with an angry pout on my face. Jimin should be outside at any moment. I turned the basement doorknob only for something to be blocking the door from the other side. I pushed harder and waited for the object to be far enough that I could squeeze through.

"God. What the hell?" A groggy voice said from the other side of the door. I rolled my eyes once I figured out it was just a drunken teenager.

"Get out the way kid. I have to go." I said hitting the door on his leg. He flinched away with a glare

"Are you Yvette?" The kid asked once I made it through the door.

"Yeah? How do you know?" I asked. He didn't answer at first too hungover. I gripped the collar of his shirt, pulling him off of the floor.

"Answer the damn question," I demanded. He backed away into the wall with his hands in the air.

"Alright, alright. He said if I didn't tell you when you would up, he'll find me and kill me." He started off.

"Who?"

"Hot dude. Long black hair and dressed a little too professional for a backyard party." He described. It had to be Tae-Hyung. He's the only one that matches that description and would want to threaten me.

"What did he say?" I urged on

"He said and I quote, "Don't fuck with me."

....

"He drugged you?" Jimin shouted while speeding down the road. As soon as I got in the car, an explanation was ordered. I explained how I ran into Mark, met the members in the basement along with Tae-Hyung, and got drugged.

"Yeah. I should have seen it coming. I'm never this clumsy." I self scolded. The ride home seemed a lot longer than it did going there. I was relieved about that but the time will come when I have to face Hoseok.

"Well, this is the most important task you had. Hoseok will be furious, but you can always try again. Now that they possibly know your identity, you have to snipe him." Jimin explained. I nodded along listening to his every word.

"You think Jeongguk is alright?" I asked looking at the car behind us. I wanted to ride with Jimin alone so I offered Jeongguk my car to ride home. He looked a little disappointed to not be riding with us but I didn't let that change my opinion. Jimin and I were closer, so there are some things I'm willing to share with him and not with Jeongguk.

"Yeah. He looked almost heartbroken when you told him to drive your car. I think he has a crush on you." Jimin said. I looked at him like he was crazy, but it did explain why Jeongguk seemed so attached to me.

"You think?" I asked looking back to Jeongguk. I couldn't see him because of the tinted windows but I'm almost sure he could see me. I can tell he was probably blushing.

"Maybe. Either he is naturally shy or you just have that effect on him. Which means he likes you." I shrugged my shoulders and left the conversation. Sooner rather than later we started seeing familiar sights that lead to our home. I started to grow nervous when we parked outside.

"You're ready?" Jimin asked holding my hand. I didn't answer him because he already knew what I was going to say. I left the car and walked up the stairs boldly. If Hoseok can see me, I want him to know that I'm not afraid. Yell at me, scream at me, fire me, kill me, do anything you have to do. I'll take it.

"I'm surprised," Hoseok said immediately when I walked through the door. He was holding a medium-sized cup in his right hand than a gun in the other. When Jimin saw the weapon he lunged in front of me.

"Don't kill her. It was a mistake that won't happen again." He pleaded. Jeongguk stood at he door frightened. That weapon could easily point at him.

"It shouldn't have happened in the first place. I expected more from you." He spoke first to Jimin, then to me. I still stood bold behind him but I'm glad he couldn't read emotions because I'm a nervous wreck. I thought my last night was going to be two days ago. Who knew it would he two days later?

"She knows. She will go again. Her cover wasn't blown. She was is just careless. She'll try again and next time she won't fail." Jimin pleaded again. Hoseok stood there emotionless. I can tell he was thinking.

"It's the next time part that kills me. There shouldn't be the next time." Hoseok sighed. I finally jumped into the argument.

"And I know that. I admit I was careless and should have watched out more. I failed as a result. But I won't fail you again." I said looking over Jimin's head right at Hoseok. She turned his attention to me and narrowed his eyes.

.
.

"You're like a cat with nine lives. But now you're on your last life. You will kill him by the end of next week and I probably won't kill you myself." He said. I sighed in relief but the anticipation still lingers. He placed his drink and started walking to me slowly. Jimin held his ground but Hoseok didn't shy away. He only stopped when we were only less than five inches apart and Jimin's face was buried in his chest.

"Don't fail me again."
