Chapter 1✔
The first day of high school...I should wake up before my alarm clock rings. I slept with the thought. But what happened in the morning is me waking up to see a broken alarm clock smashed against the wall. I did tell my mom it will be sufficient to keep an alarm on my phone, but since she flew out of here for business, she insisted on me having an alarm clock for safety. She didn't want me to be late for the first day, understandable.
Forgot to introduce myself. My bad. I am Xiao Zhan. I live with my mom, and I don't really want to talk about my dad. My mom is an employee in a huge company. Her salary is good enough to make us look rich, the only drawback being the transfers back and forth. Currently, we are in Korea. I will be spending my next three years here, roughly finishing high school.
I am Chinese. But I do know Korean has I have stayed here long back because of the same reason. I do watch a lot of Korean dramas that helped me not forget the Korean I learned. I finish my morning business and take a shower using the best fragrance of shampoo.
The first day equals the first impression. Universal rule, so I will do my best to make a first impression.
I look at the white hoodie and my black-ripped jeans. I know I am handsome. I have never got a competition for my looks in my previous schools. Every one of them agrees I am the best looking in the class whenever they elect a visual for fun. Got lots of proposals though I have never dated anyone. Simply not interested. People may think I am conceited, but I am just like this.
I take my sandal coloured backpack, wear my boots and walk off towards the nearby bus stop. I keep getting weird looks from people passing by, probably guessing who this new neighbour is. I put on my earphone and walk off without looking at anyone. Waiting for the bus for about five minutes felt like a lifetime. I have already looked into the map. I just hope the map is accurate or wouldn't be joining the school today.
That doesn't seem bad, actually.
Shaking my head at the ridiculous thought, I step into the bus and take a window seat in the last row. I look to the right to see a boy who looks like my age sitting on the other side near the window. He looks handsome, not more than me. Maybe 0.1% less hot than me. He doesn't look so manly, but he looks hot and cute.
What kind of look is that?
He looks down at his phone and smiles at something. Yup, he definitely looks cute when he smiles and looks handsome when he has this poker face. I look at his uniform that made my mood sour. That is the school I am joining today. I will definitely have a competition. Hope he is not in my class.
I look down at my phone and change to different songs that are less hype to match my sour mood. I hate competitions.
I glace at him for few seconds to guess his age whilst he is smiling at the phone. Definitely girlfriend. I am sure she is acting cutesy for him to be smiling like this. Shut up, Zhan. When did you start becoming so judgemental?
I prevent myself from looking at him to keep my mood stable on my first day. I am one-sidedly taking him as my enemy. I think I am being a brat. Common zhan, you are acting like a ten-year-old now. "Ahhh..." a grandma literally screamed when the bus came to sudden break. Who let the grandma stand? She should be sitting on the bus seat. I didn't look at her or I would have definitely given her a seat.
Now that I look closely, the grandma is now supported by her husband. Though he is old, the grip to hold her is anything but lose. I suddenly stand up at the same time the guy from the other side too stand up. We both look at each other for a second. Before the bus starts again, I make the grandpa sit on my seat. The grandma is taken by the other guy to his seat. "Thank you," grandpa says with a smile as he blesses me. I smile at him in return. "No worries, grandpa," and thus, I start a conversation with him.
"I am going to join the new school today. My first day. I am a bit nervous. Where are you two going?" I ask him. He smiles at the sudden start of a conversation. The other guy stood beside me after the grandma is settled in his seat. The bus isn't so rushed, but there were no empty seats to sit in too.
"Our 62nd anniversary. I am taking my lady to the nearby park here, and we will be going to the beach afterwards to celebrate. I even booked a famous restaurant to eat at. I would have booked a car too, but she insisted she wants to go there by bus like we did when we were young. That old lady," he says, voice clearly shows how much he loves and respects her. Head shaking side to side with a silly smile, probably remembering his young days with his wife.
I admire this kind of relationship. I didn't see much from my parents, and relatives of mine are not really a good example. "That sounds wonderful. You very much love her, don't you?" I tease him by raising my eyebrows with a teasing smirk.
He laughs heartily, which made the listeners around him laugh with him at my antics. "Yes, yes. I do love her very much. We were couple goals at our high school days," he winks at me as he proudly announces.
"I will be marrying my high school sweetheart this month," an uncle who is listening to the conversation adds, which made the other listeners heartily congratulate him. I smile as I wish him well too.
"I am going to join a high school too. Hearing you people speak will make me jealous if I don't get one of my own sweethearts," I pout, resulting in them laughing out loud. I hear someone snort beside me, then only did I notice, he too was listening to all this conversation. But what did the snort mean?
That I am too handsome and I don't want to worry about getting one?
That I should dream on? That I will never get one as long as this guy is there?
Why did he even snort at my comment?
I ignore him and notice that I will be arriving at my stop. "Okay, grandpa, have a wonderful day. My stop is the next one," I wave them goodbye. "You too. Happy 1st day of high school life," they wish me as I arrive at the stop. I wave to them as I literally jump out of the bus. I am in high spirits now.
The other guy walks in front of me, so I don't bother with the map as I follow him. To my surprise, he walks towards the back entrance of the school. For no apparent reason, I follow him too. "What are you doing?" I ask him just to get a frown from him as a reply. He didn't bother to respond and walks away.
I roll my eyes at his attitude. This isn't new. I have been transferred to many schools, so I know the starting point in making friends is relatively slow.
Or so I thought.
