Chapter 15: We Get Interviewed

The ex-Crowns (Trivia, Pay, and I) sat down first. Trivia and Pay didn't even need to be pushed this time in order to enter the room!

Next came the fimillair Defendants, which included Acra, Axis , and Driver-Dude. They all sat down, their seats facing us. The only thing separating us from them was the table in the middle, where Driver-Dude placed his hands on.

The two unfamiliar Defendants, like Pusher-Person (the guy who was holding me down) and Unfamiliar-Person (the guy who was holding Trivia and Pay), didn't take a seat. Both of them moved towards Driver-Dude, who were standing behind him on either side. But none of them sat.

I raised my hand.

Acra glanced at Driver-Dude quickly before she called on me. "Uh... yes?"

"Just one question before we begin. Are we going to be on the news, since we're being interviewed?" I asked. It was an honest question.

Acra and Axis exchanged confused glances. Driver-Dude didn't look amused.

"Because if it is, don't you need to make us sign contracts and get our permission and consent beforehand?"

"Just ignore her," Trivia replied from my right. "She's always like that."

"It was a genuine question!" I protested.

"Moving on," Driver-Dude waved his hand, dismissing my question. That wasn't fair. Or kind. Or considerate. "Why did the Crowns steal an elephant?"

"What elephant?" I asked. "We never stole an elephant."

"Don't lie to me!" Driver-Dude stood up, slamming his fists on the table. "You stole an elephant statue!"

"You need to chill out, my guy," Trivia told him.

"Oh, an elephant statue," I remembered. "The golden one, right. I thought you meant an actual elephant, like we stole from a zoo. You need to be more specific next time."

"Pffft," Trivia laughed. She was leaning backwards on her chair, her legs propped on the table.

"Just answer the question!" Driver-Dude snapped.

"How do you expect us to know when our own Bosses wouldn't tell us?" Pay answered from the right-most chair.

"Ex-Bosses," I corrected.

"Why would you steal it if you didn't know why you were stealing it?" Acra asked in front of me.

"Acra, let me do the talking," Driver-Dude told her. Then he turned to us. "Then why did you steal the elephant? What's its value?"

"Isn't that just what Acra asked us?" Trivia asked us. "What was the point of shushing her?"

"Answer. The. Question," Driver-Dude said through gritted teeth.

"Because the Boss told us to?" I answered, except with a question. Were we allowed to answer a question with a question?

"I see," Driver-Dude sat down, stroking his chin. "Then you're useless when it comes to this entire matter."

"We did tell you we were fired from the job," Trivia stated. "Except some people wouldn't listen, as they couldn't hear us over the sound of their huge ego."

"That some people were you," I clarified. "Because Trivia never told me or Pay, since we already knew. So it can't be us."

Driver-Dude raised up his hand in silence. Once everyone was quiet, he asked, "What exactly is your position in the Crowns? Are you not a part of their inner circle? Did you take us for fools!?"

"Oh. My. Gosh." Trivia took off her legs from the table, leaning forward to him. "How many times do we have to tell you? We. Got. Fired!"

"If we were a part of their inner circle, we wouldn't be in this situation, would we?" asked Pay.

"Maybe we should listen to them-" Acra tried.

"Silence!" Driver-Dude snapped at Acra. "You have no reason to talk. I know what I'm doing."

"Sure doesn't seem like it," Pay muttered.

Driver-Dude glared at him. Then he turned to us. "Why exactly did you join the Crowns, if you don't even know what you're doing?"

None of us answered.

"Can I prefer not to answer?" I spoke up from the silence.

"No. "Driver-Dude said without any emotion.

"Oh..."

The room was silent for three minutes. I knew because I was counting the amount of seconds that had gone by in my head.

"Well?"

"Uh, I think this is a sensitive topic for them," Acra talked again, for the third time.

"How many times do I have to tell you Acra? I'm in charge here, not you. This is going to be going my way."

Acra looked mildly annoyed, but said nothing, like the rest of us.

Driver-Dude turned back to us. "Well? Are you going to answer, or do you want me to make you?"

"I joined because my other organization fired me," I finally replied. "But that didn't work out quite well. The Crowns also ended up firing me."

"That doesn't answer my question," Driver-Dude growled.

"You know what, let me ask you a better question," Trivia asked.

"You don't have the power nor authority to ask me anything."

Trivia just ignored him and leaned forward, hands on the table. "Why did you decide to join the Defendants in the first place?"
