Chapter 14: Frost Can't Beat Frost
*Safia's POV*
We burst through the thin metal door, to see Robin on Captain Cold's shoulders, banging on the glass dome around his head, and Artemis was shooting arrows at him, but strangely, the arrows were flying the opposite direction when they hit his suit.
"Dudes! I thought Aqualad told you to wait for backup!" Kid Flash shouted.
"Well turns out old man over here has better hearing than we thought!" Robin shouts back.
Within seconds Captain Cold grabs Robin by his cape, and throws him at me, causing us both to be on the ground groaning in pain and discomfort. I landed on my wrist and it began to throb painfully. I shrugged it off and ran towards Captain Cold once more.
I stopped mid-way and tried shooting sharp icicles at him, but they only came from my right hand. Only small bursts of mist came from my left. I must have sprained it.
To fix the problem, i fashioned a staff made purely from ice. A large, round, cloudy, translucent stone sat atop it, and the tip of the staff seemed to caress it safely.
"Nice stick!" Robin laughed.
"Can you do better?" I challenged.
"Pff of course!" he scoffed.
He pulled some small cylinder shaped thing and in seconds it extended into a long metal staff.
"Told you so!" He teased.
I just rolled my eyes, and charged at Captain Cold. I held my staff high in the air, getting ready to bring it down on him. But he ended up making one slight movement to the right, causing me to hit his shoulder with my staff, completely shattering it.
"Awe! Did the big bad frosty break her stick?" Robin cooed.
"I'll just take yours then!" I yell running over to him, grabbing a hold of his staff.
"Hey! Let go!" He shouted, surprised.
I started to freeze his staff, eventually covering it in a thick coat of ice, causing Robin's grip to loosen, making the staff mine. It looked just like the last one, but had little curvy patterns covering it.
"Hey, no fair! Get your own staff!" Robin complained.
"Too late now!" I smirked.
"You'll regret this later!", he shouted, trying his hardest to make a decent comeback.
"In your dreams boy blunder!", I smirked, getting back to business.
I stood straight up and tightened my grip on my ever-powerful staff. I focused all of my energy, strength, and anger into it, and out shot a beam of all things cold. Wind, frost, ice, hail, snow, and everything in between. But everyone knows, you can't beat cold with cold.
Although my staff's power did affect Captain Cold's state, it didn't affect him as well as i was hoping. I needed something bigger, something stronger, something beyond my capabilities. My grip on my staff was so tight that my knuckles had already turned whiter than my complexion, if that was possible. I thoughts sunk deep into the past, past getting my powers, past my parents rejecting me. They went all the way to the moment I was born. Although I was too young to remember, my parents had always described the moment to me. They said it was the happiest moment of their lives, the pinnacle of their existence. That memory filled me with joy, with warmth. A sort of warmth that I hadn't felt since the accident. I felt that joy travel through my fingertips and into my staff, making the cloudy stone turn a deep, sunset orange. But suddenly, my thoughts traveled to the night of the accident. How my parents had left me for their own safety. They cared more about their well being than their own daughter. I was supposed to be a part of their world, a part of their universe. But they abandoned me because of a stupid accident. I felt the joy leave my body and my staff turned back to icy blue.
"Whatever that was, we need more of it. Cap's currently beating our butts.", Shouted Artemis in between shots.
I needed to save to team. They were my friends, my only family. Even Robin was growing on me. As obnoxious as he was, he was a part of my world. And that thought triggered a new memory. A more recent one to be exact. It was Dick. How he was so familiar, yet so distant. How his eyes sparkled beautifully in the moonlight, and how his soft lips perfectly caressed mine. That filled me with a new sort of joy, one that I had never felt before, It felt pure and fresh, like I was destined to meet him. That traveled through my fingertips once more and into my staff, making the stone turn blinding orange. The inside of the stone swirled faster and faster until a beam of hot, fiery light erupted from the center and struck Captain Cold in the chest, knocking him unconscious, maybe even barely alive.
And then the beam protruded back into the stone, and my once blazing staff turned back into the familiar icy blue.
I felt my eyes roll to the back of my head, and all of my thoughts vanished.

I slowly opened my eyes to be in, once again, another bright room. I soon found out I was in my own bedroom. I turned over and saw KF standing against the wall with his arms crossed.
"Dude! What is it with you and fainting literally all the time?!" He complained.
I just groaned and turned away from him closing my eyes, and eventually drifting off to sleep, if it was even possible with KF blabbering in the back of my mind
