Rebecca
Book 1 Chapter 7
Rebecca.
The day was going well for Rebecca. She had finished her day off at the clinic. The Hayes siblings all needed a filling cause their parents didn't care if they brushed. That was always a pain, but she progressed to get to know her patients. She noticed the good time she was having. She sent her scheduler home early before locking up. Grabbing a few groceries and a nice bottle of wine, she made her way home. Rebecca wasn't the best cook, she tried, but she was more baker. Her Nanna had wanted to teach her and Sam how to cook when they were teenagers, and while Sam took to the skill, it was too much a dash or a pinch, or 'you'll know when it's enough.' Rebecca could not just decide when enough was enough. She liked just being told what to do and doing it.
Pulling up to her home, she noticed two Harleys in her driveway. Parking beside them, she stepped out and saw Opie was standing there with another man. He was blonde and handsome. By the smirk, Becca could tell he knew that too. Luckily for her, Rebecca was not phased by the smile or the eyes.
"What do I owe the please boys?" Rebecca asked as she went around to the back of her Toyota getting her grocery bags out. "I know I said I would let you come open a stuck pickle jar when I needed it. I just didn't expect it to be this soon." the joke was light-hearted as she walked towards the two. Her eyes found their way to Opies. She had long wished to see those eyes again.
"Sorry, Darlin," the blonde said as he looked at her, the smirk never leaving his face, "we gotta ask you a few questions."
Rebecca nodded and shrugged her shoulders. She knew that this would probably happen. After her day out with Gemma and Tara, Becca knew that was just the beginning of this club trying to figure out who she was. Rebecca could see how this looked from an outsider's perspective, and she was sure that SAMCRO did most of the things the town talked about. "Sure, come on in. I gotta put these groceries away but come, have a seat." Rebecca walked over and opened her front door allowing the two bikers to come forwards. She walked towards the kitchen and down her bags, leading them into her home. "What do you want to know?"
Rebecca began putting her items up before grabbing two beers out of the fridge and handing them over to the two bikers sitting at her kitchen table. "We need to know of all that happened in Chino after Opie got released," Jax stated.
Rebecca bit her lip. She didn't think that this would be something that she would have to talk about, especially not so soon. Becca knew her facial expression was upset before correcting herself and fixing it, placing one of indifference. "Wow, so soon," the joke came out quickly as she grabbed her water bottle and walked toward the table. "I feel like you already know the answer, so what do you want from me?" It shouldn't have come out as bitter as it did, but Becca had just wanted to ignore the pain.
"Becks," Opie's rough, raspy voice caused Becca's stomach to do flips as her eyes made it over to him. His hair was growing longer. She noted to herself as she stared at him. "Tell me who done it."
Rebecca rolled her eyes as she crossed her arms over her chest, not liking the feeling of being interrogated. She didn't even press charges when it happened. "It started about a week after you got out," she whispered before lowering her eyes to Opies. "The guards on third shift talked about me while checking how I was dating some big guy in prison to not mess with me. Fucking idiot." Rebecca had tried not to curse, not that she had anything against it, but it wasn't something their Nanna liked them to do. "Anyways, since I was close to you, they thought it was you. The comments stopped for a bit, but I would always get the occasional comment that if I could screw one inmate, I could screw another, but I ignored it as they were trying to bait me."
Rebecca began tapping her foot as she resumed her position, looking up at the light figure above the table. "A week after you left, I told the guards which ones I needed pulling that day. It started with creepy comments and grabs. Then it got violent."
Anger flooded her stomach as she thought more about that day. She clenched her fist as she lowered her brown eyes to meet the two men in front of her. Raising in her seat, she placed her hands on the table, " I called the guards to pull Jermain Jones. They said they would, but when the door was buzzed and I turned around, there stood three inmates I didn't ask for. They held me down and wrapped me up in a sheet. Tried to choke me a bit, saying they would show me what he couldn't." Rebecca rolled her eyes and jumped a bit when she felt a hand on her own. Eyes snapping over, she saw Opie's large hand holding her smaller one. "I didn't even know who they were talking about, but I tried to scream and fight them off. I finally got the sheet off my body enough to kick one in the face before grabbing the drawer's scalpel." Rebecca tightened her hold on Opie's hand before closing her eyes. "I stabbed the one that came to me. I kept stabbing him until the guard came and pulled me off."
Rebecca knew that she was probably hurting Opie's hand with how tight she was holding his hand. But at this moment, holding his hand was the only thing stopping her from breaking down. The way his calloused thumb was rubbing circles on her wrist.
"Who was it?" Jax's voice asked. It was lower rougher, and it caused Rebecca to look up. She squeezed Opie's hand three times, trying to calm her racing heart as she said the names aloud.
"Buck Alred, Earl Ramey, and. And I killed Larry White."
"Those guys are a part of Darby's crew. They were in the cell with me, so they knew when I would get pulled and released." Opie's voice was stern as he gritted out the words.
Jax nodded slowly. Rebecca hated that all these problems were coming out. Rebecca wasn't one for drama or issues. She usually kept to herself and dealt with issues by herself.
"Becca, we gotta tell the club this."
Rebecca scrunched up her face as though she thought about others knowing her issues, "No." she said quickly, shaking her head. "No, no one needs to know. It's not an issue I can take care of myself." The words fell out of her mouth as she shook her head. "How did you guys know anything about the Chino or the notes?" Rebecca's brain was racing about how she was bringing added stress to the men in front of her. She didn't know them, not really. Standing up, she wrapped her arms around herself and shook her head. "I can handle it myself. You don't need to get involved."
"Rebecca," Opie's voice cleared and rang loud in her head, causing her to look up at the man now in front of her. "breath," his command done something to her. Taking a shaky breath, she stared into his eyes. They were pretty—green with flecks of brown around them.
"What did you mean, notes?" Jax's voice asked.
Rebecca was trying to stay calm, but the mention of it caused her eyes to widen. She hadn't meant to say that. It wasn't something they needed to worry about. "I." closing her eyes, she just let out a sad sign. "It came the other day."
Pulling away, she walked towards her living room, pulling a piece of paper out of a drawer before stepping back. "I went out shopping with Gemma and Tara. We went to a couple of shops and then to this restaurant. When leaving, I saw Alred with a group a few tables away. He just kept staring at me." Rebecca held the note out to Opie. "I guess he followed me home cause this was left in my car two days later."
Rebecca had felt sick ever since reading the note, 'you killed my brother, I'll kill you.' She watched as Opie read it before handing it over to Jax.
"you're coming back with me," this confused Rebecca as she stared at Opie with wide eyes.
"No, Ope, I can't," Rebecca tried to start before getting cut off by Opie repeating her first name in his harsh tone. "Harry," Becca stated, starting at the tall man, "you already have too much on your plate to worry about this."
"I think Opie's right," Jax cut in, making both heads look at him, "you don't need to be here. It seems like they have a vendetta against you."
"Look, just go pack a bag. You can take the bed. I'll take the couch." Rebecca could hear it in Opie's voice. He was pleading with her to take his offer. Letting out a sign, all she could do was nod her head. She didn't want to. Opie had a wife and kids. It would be so awkward and painful to walk into his home with all of them. Look at the woman who had a crush on her husband for those years. However, Rebecca didn't care when Opie's large arms wrapped around her and hugged her into his broad chest. Becca snuggled her face into Opie's shirt between his vest. He smelt like cologne, leather, and motor oil.
After reluctantly letting go, she went into her room and began to pack a quick bag. As she went to her bathroom, she heard her bedroom door open. Rebecca walked out with her toothbrush, pasted it in one hand, and noticed Opie. She placed her items in her bag and took Ope's hand.
"Opie, I don't know about this. I don't want to cause anything between you and your wife." Rebecca could see Opie was struggling with something after she said that. Pulling on his hand, she sat down on the side of her bed.
"Um, Donna passed away a few months ago. Gangbangers." Rebecca felt dread in her stomach as she squeezed Opie's hand. She didn't want him to think she pitied him. Becca looked down at his hand. It was big, solid, and rough, but so was he. She held it in both of hers as she ran her thumb over the top.
"Okay," she whispered as she looked up at him, "promise me that at any time that I start over, staying my welcome or being a burden, you tell me." Rebecca didn't want to overstay her welcome while she and Opie had a history together. Being outside of Chino was new to both of them when it came to being close to one another.
Opie's warm laugh made her stomach flutter, "If that is what you're worried about, then you might not even be coming back here."
