Rebecca

Book 1 Chapter 5

Rebecca

"So, is he hot?" were the first words out of her sister's mouth when they got on the phone later that week. The twins had tried to talk at least three or four times a week, but sometimes it went down to only two. Rebecca had still been trying to recover from the crazy story she experienced when she went to the garage.

"YES!" Rebecca said before she could stop herself, "he's a part of some motorcycle thing. All of them were wearing this leather vest," she groaned as she laid down on her bed, staring up at the ceiling. "I only know the name of two of them," Rebecca said, rolling her eyes a bit as she rolled over on her stomach, laying her phone down in front of her and putting it on speakerphone.

"That's crazy that you saw him there?" Sam's voice came through with a slight tease, "I mean, I remember when you called me up to tell me when you first cleaned his teeth. I swear you had a crush on him right then."

"Shut up," Rebecca groaned, only making her sister laugh. "You remember those kids I talked to you about, Kenny and Ellie?"

"The twins who have the same last name?" Rebecca knew she couldn't keep her thoughts from going haywire, and she had to tell someone. While Rebecca was social, she also had difficulty making friends as she didn't get out very much or do the party club scene.

"Yeah, well, they are his," Rebecca explained as she felt like she would go insane with the feeling that she saw him. Rebecca was crushed when she went into Chino that day, and the big handsome man wasn't there when she made clean rounds. "He never told me their names when we spoke, so I didn't know they were his." Rebecca couldn't wrap her mind around the interaction. Rebecca was just a fill-in dentist that came twice a month to do teeth checks. She never met the parents or had access to their personal information besides medical history. If something was wrong or they needed medical attention, Rebecca was to call the nurse.

"So ask him out," Samantha said, "If you like him so bad, just ask him to take you to the back room and make you call him daddy."

"Are you stupid?" Rebecca replied in a flat tone. She was not in a million years going to do that. "There is no way I will walk up to him and ask that. Plus, he is married. He talked about her in Chino," Rebecca knew that she was not a homewrecker, nor would she try to become one. She couldn't ruin a family, her own was destroyed at the hands of her father, and she couldn't do that to someone else's. The twins knew how it was to be raised without a mother at a young age when you needed them.

Rebecca could hear Samantha mull over what she said and then let a resounding sign. "I guess you're right." Rebecca knew she was. She couldn't take the chance of hurting anyone, so she kept her mouth shut and went on about her day. "What does your schedule look like in a month or two?"

Rebecca shrugged but knew that her sister couldn't see her, "nothing really, work and some remodeling to the house. why?"

"I was thinking about you coming down for a visit, you could visit Nanna," Rebecca smiled. Family was so important to the two of them. Being raised by an Italian grandmother and father, family and social events were weekly. Rebecca sometimes felt guilty for the sacrifices that her sister made for their family that she couldn't. Samantha knew what she wanted to do by the time she was in middle school, going to Tennessee for those years while she finished up school was a no brainer. The only problem was when she got out, their grandmother fell and broke her hip. During that time Rebecca still had a few more semesters to complete and knew she couldn't do what needed to be done. So, Samantha stepped up to the plate, she moved back to Tacoma.

"Absolutely," Rebecca missed her sister and grandmother, sometimes she thought about just going back to Tacoma and not leaving. At least there she was safe. "How's the clinic going?"

"Ehh you know how it is, the animals are sweet. I only had to put down two last month," Sam's sigh could be heard over the phone, "Dr. Combs grandson is back for the summer to do the front desk, he's still a perv, he tried to fill me up the other day while I was passing by him to get a scan."

"Gross" Rebecca stated rolling her eyes as she remembered the creepy man. "I wish you could punch him in the face." The girls talked for a few more minutes before getting off the phone. Rebecca felt her head was swimming as she thought about Gemma and the guys she had met. They all seemed nice, polite, and friendly. Speaking with them was easy, like talking with her sister. Rebecca felt her eyes get heavy as she laid her head down at the foot of her bed, where she ended up. She relaxed as she didn't have anything to do that day besides having a lazy Saturday.

It didn't seem long that she had closed her eyes that they were jumping open as her ringtone blared through her room. Squinting at her phone, she noticed that she had only been lying there for 45 minutes. The name on the phone read 'Gemma,' Rebecca slid the bar across and picked it up, "Hello?" Rebecca could hear the sleep in her voice, so she was sure Gemma could.

"Don't tell me you have been sleeping this whole day," Gemma's raspy voice sounded through the phone.

This caused Rebecca to laugh as she shook her head, "No, I laid on my bed when I walked talking to my sister and fell asleep. I got nothing to do today but be lazy, I guess." Rebecca liked Gemma, not that she knew her well. She was just easy to talk to, Rebecca guessed. Brash is probably harsher to some, but honest. Rebecca always approved blunt honesty over sweet lies.

"Well, you have something to do now," Gemma stated, which caused Bec to rise from her bed. "I need to do some errands, do a little shopping, and thought you might want to come with me. We can get lunch."

It was probably saying something about Rebecca's excitement to be asked to do something with Gemma. "Absolutely! I'll get ready, and I can meet you somewhere or."

"I'll just come by your house and pick you up. Where do you live?"

"864 N Asher Ave," Rebecca replied as she looked through her closet for actual clothes. "I'm the light blue house with the fence." Pull out a pair of ripped jeans and a nice white lace crop top. Rebecca nodded as she went over to change.

"Okay, be there in 10." The phone clicked off right as Rebecca began taking her PJ bottoms off. Having a friend with this woman was exciting for Rebecca. She had been very closed off after the incident in Alabama. Beck used to be the life of the party. Now she kept herself closed off, not trusting anyone with her name or kindness. Taking a brush, Rebecca started brushing her hair out before taking her heated up curling iron and doing some big curls here and there. Rebecca was ready to go, brushing her teeth and applying some mascara. She threw on a pair of brown flats when she heard a knock at her door.

Grabbing her purse, she turned and unlocked and opened her door, "Hey!" Rebecca called out as she noticed Gemma standing at her door and another petite brunette.

"Hey, Rebecca," Gemma said with a smirk as she stepped through the doorway to look at Rebecca's home. "I hope you don't mind. I invited Tara to come along. She's Jax's girlfriend," Rebecca felt like she would say something else, but Gemma looked at Tara and then back to Rebecca with a face.

Rebecca tried not to laugh at the face but shrugged her shoulders, "absolutely, the more, the merrier." Rebecca smiled as she locked up her house before following them to Gemma's Cadillac. Rebecca didn't mind that to get in the back allowing Tara to ride up front as they headed down the road. Their first stop was a boutique that Gemma said she liked to get her boots from.

The store was nice, it had some nice pieces, but it also had some raunchy items that Becca decided to stay away from. Walking over to Tara "I don't know who would be in the market for a elephant dick holder," Rebecca whispered as she pointed to the section that held the items.

Tara looked up and snorted, "right, or the assless chaps," this caused Rebecca to laugh as she nodded her head before pulling out a leather and jean jacket that she liked. Turning around she looked towards the brunette showing the items giving the silent request. "Black," Tara stated pointing to the leather jacket, "can't go wrong with black. I got one too," she said showing the item in her hands.

"Thanks. So why does Gemma seem so hostile towards you?" It wasn't Rebecca's business, but she was just curious over the bad blood that seemed between the two.

"She's a bitch," Tara said under her breath before looking up at Becca, with a sign Tara finally came clean, "I was dating her son Jax before I left to go to school. It was rough for both of us, well I came back, and we've gotten back together," Tara winced before saying in a lower voice, "kind of, I guess. Anyways she didn't like me back then and she still doesn't like me."

"Trust dies when mistrust blossoms," Rebecca stated as she walked along side Tara. Stopping she noticed the confused look that she was getting from Tara, "She's probably worried about her son, she can't form trust in you while mistrust is still blooming." Rebecca shrugged, "figure out what Gemma is having a hard time trusting about you and prove her wrong."

Rebecca liked Tara; she was a sweet girl. They had walked close by and shopped, Becca not really finding what she wanted besides the jacket and paying for it while the other two got their things. Once they got to the restaurant Rebecca was able to sit down and get to know the two women. Gemma was hard, she kept to herself, and her secrets were locked in. Rebecca could respect that; she had her known secrets that she kept stashed away. The only difference was that Gemma's wasn't locked up. She showed her emotions in her face even when she didn't say them out loud. Tara on the other hand had held a lot of secrets too but she hid them, with sarcastic comments and witty humor.

"So Becca, what made you come to Charming anyways?" Gemma asked, it seemed like a question they had been meaning to ask her all night as they hinted around it.

"My dad killed my mom when I was a teen, me and my sister would have been shipped off to a group home if my Nanna didn't take us in. We moved to Tacoma where she lived until graduation." Rebecca shrugged when she noticed the look of pity on the two women's faces. "I went to Alabama for college and before graduation my Nanna fell and broke her hip. I got offered a job in California which is close to Tacoma, so I accepted it. Chino sucked but Charming is better, it's small and quaint." Rebecca gave a tight smile as she took a sip of her water looking at the two women in front of her.

"You're a dentist?" Tara asked trying to take the conversation back to something nice and friendly.

"Yeah! It's great," The talk about her job always got Rebecca excited, "I got a contract with Charming school district to go to the schools and check kids' teeth with low-income households." Rebecca smiled at the waiter when they brought out their food. "What do you do?"

"I'm a doctor at St. Thomas." Tara explained which didn't really surprise Rebecca. Tara seemed like a smart girl from their conversations.

"Ahh, I swear you probably get it all the time like me the crank heads that come in looking to score,"

"Pain meds," Tara finished raising her hands up, "yes. I swear I get them sometimes three or four times a night. It's awful."

"Girl, I once had a dad come in with his six-year-old going on about how much pain she was in and how I needed to pull her tooth out just to get Vicodin. Turns out it was his weekend, and the mom was in Lodi with not a clue." Tara looked at her with wide eyes before going into her own story that ended with both girls laughing and shaking their head.

Gemma sat there smirking as she watched the two girls. Maybe this would work.
