NINE; UNWELCOME VISITOR
"Papa!" Eden shouted excitedly as soon as she saw Charlie through the car window. She unbuckled her seatbelt and was out of the vehicle the second it came to a stop.
"She is her mother's daughter." Jasper sighed, a smile on his face nonetheless.
Cassadee winked at her husband. "I don't see how that's a bad thing."
"I'm sure it will be when she's a teenager."
Cassadee scoffed. "Obviously I'm not that bad since you married me."
"How many times did you almost give Charlie a heart attack in the last year?" Jasper questioned with a raised brow.
"She's never leaving the house when she's older." Cassadee said after a moment of thought, looking at her father as he picked Eden up and smiled at her.
"She's definitely never having a boyfriend."
"Or girlfriend." Cassadee added, looking back at her husband. "Just be glad Jacob didn't imprint on her."
"Good point." Jasper nodded in agreement as he got out of the vehicle and walked to the passenger side to open Cassadee's door for her.
"You know I can open my own door right?" Cassadee joked as she got out of the car.
Jasper rolled his eyes before closing the door. "You can never just let me be chivalrous without making some kind of smart comment can you?"
"I wouldn't be myself if I weren't a smartass." The brunette pointed out before kissing the blond, a smile on her face when Jasper wrapped his arms around her waist. "I recall you saying you have a present for me?" Cassadee said after pulling away, biting her lip as she glanced at down at his lips.
Jasper smirked when he saw her continuously looking between his eyes and lips. "I will show you at home tonight while Esme and Carlisle watch Eden."
"I think I have a pretty good idea of what it is." Cassadee said before pulling Jasper into another kiss.
"Gross!" Eden shouted at her parents, giggling immediately after as Charlie laughed.
Eden's parents laughed as they pulled away from each other, both smiling as they watched her interact with her grandfather. Cassadee took one of Jasper's hands that was resting on her waist and pulled him to the giggly duo, only letting go of his hand when Charlie pulled her into a hug with his free arm.
"Happy birthday, Sassy Cassie." He said, kissing his daughter's head. "How's Bella?"
Cassadee forced a smile. "She's fine, Daddio." Although it wasn't a lie, she felt guilty for having to act like Bella was practically on her deathbed when it was the complete opposite. The part she hated the most about the whole situation is the fact that no one else seemed to think about how Charlie felt. Cassadee was the only one that seemed to understand that Bella and she were the only family he had left. If either of them died Charlie would be beyond devastated.
"How long has it been since I last saw you?" Charlie questioned, looking between his daughter and granddaughter. "Like a week? She isn't even a month old." He remembered, looking at Eden.
"Don't think about it." Cassadee waved her father off and pinched Eden's cheek. "Just think about how cute she is!"
"Yeah!" Eden agreed enthusiastically. "I'm cute!"
Charlie laughed. "If I didn't believe she was your daughter before, I sure do now."
"I still don't see how that's a bad thing."
"I invited Sam and all them." Charlie informed. "I figured you would want them here."
As if on cue, a car pulled up to the house, and if the Uley pack being packed in the small vehicle like sardines wasn't noticeable enough, the overpowering wet dog smell definitely would give them away to any vampire.
"I'll be right in; I want to talk to them for a second." Cassadee told her father before reaching for Eden, who quickly leaped from Charlie's arms to Cassadee's. Charlie returned to his house while Jasper hesitated, his arm still around his wife's waist as he glared at the pack. "I meant you, too, Jazz." She told her husband. "Babe, they aren't going to do anything. Especially here."
Jasper kissed Cassadee and Eden's foreheads before begrudgingly going in the house and not taking his eyes off the werewolves into he was inside, and Cassadee was sure he was looking out the window.
"Is Daddy okay?" Eden questioned after watching his strange behavior.
"He's fine, sweet pea." Cassadee assured, smiling at her daughter. "He's just being overprotective as always."
Eden looked at the Uley pack as her mother began walking toward them. "Who are they?"
"Just some people I want you to meet." Cassadee stopped in front of her best friend. "I gotta say, I'm surprised you showed up."
"Did you really think we'd miss your birthday, princess?" Paul questioned with a smirk before looking at Eden. "So this is your kid, huh?"
"No, it's a watermelon in toddler form." Cassadee sassed, rolling her eyes but a smile on her face nonetheless. "And yeah, I did think so after everything that happened a few days ago."
"So we had a little disagreement." Embry scoffed, "What family doesn't?"
"Even though our 'disagreements' are probably way more explosive." Jared pointed out. "Regardless, we wouldn't miss your birthday."
"Even if you are technically dead." Paul added, earning an eye roll from Cassadee.
"Way to ruin a sentimental moment, dude." Embry scoffed at Paul before looking at Sam. "I told you we should've left him at home."
"Oh, so we're family now? Could've fooled me after everything that's happened."
"We always have been." Emily said, rolling her eyes with her signature sweet smile on her face.
"We're family?" Eden questioned, tilting her head in confusion.
"These are your uncles and aunt, Eden." Cassadee informed her daughter, smiling at the werewolves before looking back at the toddler. "If for some reason we can't be together, they'll be the ones to take care of you."
Eden nodded as she took the information in, which surprised Cassadee. Her child was in the body of a three-year-old but could easily comprehend most things. She was expecting Eden to question why they wouldn't be together at some point, but instead she reached for Sam. "Hi, uncle!"
Cassadee handed her daughter to Sam, much to his shock and dismay. He didn't have much experience with children, part of him was hoping nobody would let him hold Eden.
"I don't think I should—"
"She's the cutest thing!" Emily said, cutting her fiancé off as moved to his side to smile at Eden. "How old is she?"
"Three weeks." Cassadee informed, continuing when she saw a few confused expressions. "I don't know why she grows so fast, something to do with being part vampire or Equalizer or something." She waved her hand as if the information would disappear. "No one really knows, okay? We just know she obviously grows faster than a human baby."
Eden put her hands on either side of Sam's face, squishing his cheeks together. "You need to smile more." She said, looking around at the rest of the pack as she got bored of Sam. She looked at Emily and smiled wide. "You're pretty!"
Emily laughed. "Thank you, Eden. You are the most gorgeous little thing I have ever seen!" She said, taking the blonde child from her fiancées arms, much to his relief.
Eden didn't reply to the compliment; she was too focused on the scar on Emily's face. She ran her fingers down the scar, making everyone cringe. Cassadee hoped her daughter wouldn't do or say something bad. She didn't think much of the scar; she was so used to seeing it that she easily forgot about it. "This is cool!" Eden finally said, allowing everyone to relax. Sam seemed to relax the most, realizing that the child wasn't a threat.
"Well, this was fun but I want to know what my dad has planned for today." Cassadee said, turning to go inside when she saw that Eden was content being in Emily's arms. "What is this?" She questioned her father when she got inside, briefly greeting the Clearwaters before looking at the many DVDs of Scooby Doo, Teen Titans and Powerpuff Girls.
Charlie shrugged before taking Eden from Emily's arms when she reached for him. "I thought we could have one of our marathons, just with a lot more people this time." He seemed to remember something before picking a bright red shirt off the back of the couch. "Bella forgot this, although I'm sure she did it on purpose." He said holding up the Thing 2 shirt.
"This is the best thing ever!" Cassadee said happily as she hugged her father quickly and taking the shirt before pulling him down to sit on the couch next to her, Jasper on her other side. Sue sat next to Charlie as the werewolves either found a chair to sit in or sat on the floor.
The rest of the day basically consisted of everyone watching cartoons and eating endless amounts of pizza. The only thing that could've made the day better for Cassadee was if Renee, who had called earlier to wish her a happy birthday, and Bella were there. As much as she loved the Cullens, Cassadee really needed a break from them at times. She spent almost all of her time with them and she just wanted to spend time with her other family aside from Charlie, the werewolves. And she wanted her sister to be there just for the simple fact that she hadn't been around Bella without one of the Cullens around since she married Edward. Cassadee would be lying if she said she irritated for the newlyweds basically being attached to each other's hips, even more so now that she was a newborn.
The only person that didn't seem to enjoy sitting around the television was Eden. The restless child was constantly shifting in Charlie's arms, and if she wasn't with him then she was with Cassadee or Jasper or crawling into someone else's lap. If she wasn't in her grandfather or parents lap, she was typically in Emily's and occasionally Sam's.
If it weren't for Eden falling asleep in Charlie's lap and him eventually suggesting they go home, Cassadee was sure she would've spent all night there.
"I'm going to take her to the car." Jasper said, gently taking his daughter out of Charlie's arms once the three were outside.
Charlie sighed as he looked at Eden's sleeping form in Jasper's arms. "I never thought you would be married and have a kid before you were even nineteen."
"Me either." Cassadee confessed, watching her husband buckle Eden into her car seat. "I had a lot of fun today, Dad." She told her father as she turned back to him. "Thank you."
Charlie shrugged. "All I did was find some old cartoons you like; it really isn't a big deal."
"Yes, it is." Cassadee disagreed. "Hanging out with you is one of my favorite things. I know you're lonely around here and I'm going to try and make more of an effort to come over more."
Charlie's eyes were glossy, he looked up in order to prevent tears from coming out. "I love you, Sassy Cassie." He said, pulling his daughter into a tight hug. "So much."
Cassadee wanted to cry at the sight of Charlie almost in tears. "I love you, too, Dad." She squeezed him, maybe a little tighter than she should've considering the fact that Charlie almost gasped for air. "I'll be back sometime next week, I promise." She told her father before letting go of him and going to Jasper's car.
The ride to the Cullen house was fairly quiet, the only sound really coming from the car was Eden's quiet breathing. Jasper didn't say much, feeling Cassadee's mixed emotions. He knew she was happy because she got to spend time with her other family, but she was also sad because she didn't like the thought of Charlie being alone. Instead of saying anything he just took her hand, which resulted from a grateful smile from Cassadee.
When they got back to the Cullen household, Jasper got Eden and followed Cassadee to the living room, sitting next to Rosalie as she held Renesmee.
Cassadee held the red shirt out for Bella to take. "Put it on."
Bella stared at the shirt before looking at her sister. "It's not our birthday."
"It is the day of our birth, so yes, Isabella, it is."
"Stop calling me that." Bella said in annoyance. "Are we even still twins? You stopped aging a year ago."
Cassadee rolled her eyes and shoved the fabric in Bella's hands. "It doesn't matter, I was born first and I'm still cooler." She turned Bella around and pushed her out of the room. "Now listen to your older sister and put the shirt on!"
Bella stopped and turned to her sister with a smile. "I'm technically older."
Cassadee scoffed. "Not a chance."
"You stopped aging a year ago." Bella pointed out, smiling at the realization. "So in the human world I'm almost a year older than you."
Cassadee shook her head. "In human years, maybe, but in the immortal world I'm still older." She turned Bella around and pushed her toward the bathroom. "Now respect your elders and put the shirt on."
Bella returned seconds later wearing the Thing 2 shirt, much to her own dismay and Cassadee's delight. "Are you happy now?"
"I will be in a minute." Cassadee pulled Bella's digital camera out of her back pocket and tossed it at Jacob's sleeping form, the device waking him up as soon as it hit him in the head. "Wake up, Sleeping Beauty, I need you to take a picture."
"Did you go through all my stuff?"
Cassadee waved her sister off. "I only went looking for the camera, Dad gave me the shirt."
Jacob stood up and turned the camera on. "Say bloodsucker."
"That's not funny, Jake."
"Smile, Bells, or I'll make him take ten more." Cassadee wrapped her arms around Bella's neck, making sure her shirt was still visible and smiled big. "Bloodsucker!"
Jacob took the picture and tossed the camera back to Cassadee before practically tossing himself back on the couch.
Alice entered the room with Carlisle and Esme in tow. "Happy birthday!"
Bella stared at Alice. "I stopped aging two days ago."
"Still our date of birth." Cassadee pointed out.
Alice rolled her eyes. "Well, we're celebrating anyway. So suck it up." She held out a key to Bella and smiled at her. "You're welcome."
Cassadee looked to Edward as she pointed at Bella's shirt. "Don't rip the shirt to shreds or I will rip your—"
"She's kidding." Bella told her husband, giving her sister an annoyed look after cutting her off.
"No, I'm not."
"Edward, take her to her present before Cassie tells you once again how much she doesn't like you." Alice commanded her adoptive brother.
Edward grabbed Bella's hand and pulled her out of the room without another word. Cassadee made sure they couldn't hear her before speaking. "Sometimes I like Edward, I would never tell him that though."
"Why don't you two go home?" Esme suggested to Cassadee and Jasper, taking Eden out of the blond vampires arms. "Go enjoy the rest of your birthday."
Cassadee smiled at Esme before kissing Eden's head and taking Jasper's hand. The two had made it halfway down the stairs before Jasper stopped and tensed, alarming his wife. "What is it, Jasper?"
"If I told you to stay inside, would you?" Jasper questioned, not even moving slightly to look at Cassadee.
"When have I ever listened to you?"
"Just stay behind me." Jasper commanded in an authoritative tone before letting go of Cassadee's hand and continuing down the stairs in front of her.
"If you're trying to freak me out you are doing a swell job." Cassadee said as she followed Jasper. She stopped in her tracks when she saw an unfamiliar vampire at the bottom of the stairs. There was a slight olive pigment to her skin with long black hair and crimson red eyes. She was beautiful, so much so that the brunette would put her on the same level as Rosalie's.
"Maria." Jasper greeted curtly. "What do I owe this pleasure?"
"Jasper." Maria smiled and approached him, ignoring Cassadee's presence and Jasper's dismay. "I heard you were having trouble here, I came to see if you wanted to join me."
"Thank you for your concern, Maria, but I am perfectly fine here." Jasper said, although he sounded gracious, everything about him was almost threatening. If Cassadee didn't know him, she more than likely would've been scared.
"Oh, come on, Jasper." Maria smiled, putting her hand on his arm. "Things will be different this time, I swear."
"Okay," Cassadee said, walking over to the pair. "Hi, Jasper's wife here, nice to meet you." She stated sarcastically. "As much as I enjoy this little get together, I'm gonna have to ask you to leave before I get angry."
Maria laughed and looked at Jasper. "Are you really happy with her? You seem so tense. I could see why; I can hear the blood pumping through her veins."
"I am very happy." Jasper told Maria as he gestured to the open forest. "Now I'm going to have to ask you to leave."
"Fine," Maria said, backing away from Jasper but never taking her eyes away from his. "I know where I'm not wanted."
"Obviously not considering the fact that you're still here." Cassadee retorted. "She seems lovely. It's nice to know your manipulative ex is now trying to win you back." She said once when Maria disappeared, turning to go back inside.
"You don't have to worry about her." Jasper said, still in the same position as before as he looked into the forest.
The brunette scoffed. "Like hell I don't." She turned to face Jasper. "You know her better than I do, Jasper, and even I know she isn't leaving anytime soon." She watched him for a moment to see if he would move. "If you're going to keep looking you might as well go find her."
Jasper finally turned to face his wife. "You're jealous." He realized when he finally calmed down enough to pay attention to Cassadee's emotions.
"Yeah!" Cassadee replied as if it were obvious. "I'm not going to act like I'm not, she's beautiful!"
"What does that have to do with anything?" Jasper questioned, clearly confused. He didn't know how to deal with Cassadee being jealous, he was typically the jealous one in the relationship.
Cassadee rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. "For a smart guy you're pretty stupid, Jasper."
"Would you just please explain what you have to be jealous of?"
"She's beautiful!"
"Cass, all vampires are beautiful."
The brunette gave the blond a deadpan look. "And you two have a history."
Jasper was dumbfounded by the statement. "Which isn't a good one, Cassadee."
"I know that!"
"Then why are you jealous?"
"I don't know!" Cassadee confessed, running a hand through her hair. "This is my first time being jealous, I have no idea how to deal with it."
Jasper sent a wave of calmness to Cassadee, who wasn't sure if she was annoyed or glad for him doing that. He stepped closer to her and took her hand in his, interlocking their fingers before kissing her hand. "Cassadee, I love you and only you." He assured, smiling down at her. "Nothing will ever change that."
"I still don't like her." Cassadee grumbled. "And if she makes one wrong move I will kill her."
Jasper put his hand on the side of his wife's face and kissed her temple on the other side. "Everything is going to be okay, darling."
Cassadee sighed and leaned into Jasper, resting her head on his shoulder. "Then why do I have a gut-wrenching feeling that something is going to happen soon?"
