ready
THREE HOURS OF labor soon turned into thirteen, and Reyna was less than comfortable. Her contractions were torturing her, and they only seemed to be getting worse by the hour. It was nearing time for Theo to make an appearance, however, which meant she was just about ready for the epidural. She just hoped it took away the pain as she read it did.
Reyna stared up at the ceiling of her hospital room, trying desperately to keep her composure as she received yet another contraction. She felt as if she was repeatedly being hit by a truck, but she would go through the pain a hundred times if it meant she was able to see her baby boy smile as she was looking forward to.
Several nurses and doctors ran around her room, setting up machines and constantly checking her vitals. Scarlett and Jade were currently asleep on the couch against the wall (their excitement had worn them out), and Sebastian had spent the last fifteen minutes working on trying to find both of their parents in the enormous hospital. It was the first time he had left her side since she had been admitted to the hospital at 11:00 the previous night. He hadn't slept at all throughout the thirteen hours spent at the hospital—he refused to—and though Reyna knew why, it still worried her. She wanted him to sleep, especially since he hadn't slept in over twenty four hours.
The door to Reyna's room opening caught her attention, and she sat up just enough to see Sebastian making his way into the room with their parents following behind him before laying her head back down on the mattress. Her gaze was once again on the ceiling when Sebastian made his way over to, their parents joining him shortly.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" Sebastian asked her as he reached down to move a loose strand of hair behind her ear. He was very happy that it was nearing time to finally meet his son, but he hated that he had to see Reyna in pain for it to happen.
Reyna let out a whine and leaned into Sebastian's touch, reaching up to grab his hand her own. "I feel like a million dollars."
"Listen, you shouldn't make jokes like that, Reyna—there are people here who don't know what a million dollars feels like, you jackass," Reyna's dad exclaimed jokingly, giving her knee a gentle shake.
Reyna looked at her mother through tired green eyes. "You could've left him at home and I would've been perfectly fine."
"You say that now," she chuckled. "I'm very proud of you, ReyLynn."
"Yeah, I'm proud of me too, mom" Reyna remarked as she turned her attention to Sebastian's smiling mother. "Hi, mama."
"Hi, sweetheart."
"Where are all of your celebrity friends at?" Reyna's dad asked.
"Jeremy and Chris went home at about two this morning, but they'll be back later," Sebastian answered him. "Scarlett and Jade are over there on the couch."
Reyna's dad's eyes brightened at the sound of Scarlett's name and he spun around immediately to find that Sebastian's words were in fact true. "It's Scarlett freaking Johansson. God, she looks just as beautiful in person as she does on television."
"Don't forget that you're married, dad," Reyna chuckled.
Her dad looked down at her. "And so are you, punk."
"Not yet."
"Might as well be," he shrugged. "You two have been stuck to the hip since you were fifteen; you're thirty-three now and he's thirty-five, which is a really long time to be honest. I'm actually surprised this kid didn't pop out when you were like twenty-one, but then again I'm not, because your Mother Theresa-lovin' ass decided to remain a virgin until she was thirty-fucking-two years old."
Reyna rolled her eyes and shook her head at her father, while Sebastian covered his mouth to keep from laughing.
"Matt, please stop—we're in public," Reyna's mother chastised him, though she, too, was trying to hide her own laughter.
"I'm just saying," he exclaimed. "I swear, if she wasn't Reyna, I would have a difficult time believing someone else hadn't found their way up there, too."
Reyna pursed her lips and averted her attention away from her parents and Sebastian's mom. The amount of pain she was in allowed her to focus in on that small amount of pain that still lingered at the back of her mind, just waiting for something to come and set it free. Sebastian noticed her change in emotion and let out a sigh, looking over at Reyna's dad.
"Matt," he said quietly.
Reyna's dad looked at him, his brows furrowing at the knowing look on his face. He glanced down at his daughter, who was now slightly teary-eyed. He became worried almost immediately, as he hadn't meant to upset her.
"What's wrong, Rey? Did I say something to upset you? I was just kidding. . .partly," he said to her.
Reyna shook her head at him. "Something happened several months ago that I never told you about."
Reyna's mom and Sebastian's mom exchanged glances with one another before fixing their worried eyes on Reyna.
"What do you mean, honey?" Reyna's mom asked her.
Reyna looked up at Sebastian for help, and he gave her a small smile before looking at their parents. "Do you guys remember Chase? Chase Robertson?"
"That boy you always sent to your dad's office for bothering the female students?" Sebastian's mom questioned curiously.
Sebastian nodded, and before he could open his mouth to say anything, Reyna's dad was lighting up with realization.
"Does he work for Vogue?"
"Yeah."
"I overheard some guys at work talking about how he got arrested for sexually abusing some girl in an alley in Atlanta," he spoke. "They didn't say who the girl was, though."
Reyna remained silent and she removed her hand from Sebastian's, using it to play with the ring on her left hand. The three adults looked at Reyna with confused expressions, and in a single moment things seemed to click inside their minds.
"Please tell me that you are not that girl, Reyna Lynn Foster," her dad said, definite anger in his tone.
"I wish I could," Reyna responded quietly, not even bothering to look up at her parents.
"Looks like I'm going to prison then," Reyna's dad grumbled.
Reyna looked up at him this time, reaching out to grab his trembling hand with her own. "No, you're not going to prison. You're going to leave it alone, because it's all being taken care of."
"It better be," Reyna's mom remarked.
"It is," Sebastian assured them. "She's got a court date set for next month; he can't bother her anymore."
"Wait, is this baby his?" Reyna's dad asked with wide eyes.
Reyna shook her head immediately. "God, no."
"What makes you so sure?"
"Conception time, feelings I get, don't worry about it," Reyna told him.
Before he had the chance to respond, Reyna's doctor made her way over to them, an enormous grin on her face. "Hi, I'm sorry to interrupt. I just came to check how you're feeling, Reyna."
Reyna shrugged. "I feel like—"
"If you say 'a million bucks' I will hit you," Reyna's dad threatened her.
Reyna chuckled and shook her head at him before answering. "I feel like I'm being ripped apart from the inside out."
"Well, once we've got the room cleared, we'll check to see if we can begin," her doctor told her.
Reyna's dad made a face. "Well, I'm going down to the cafeteria to get myself a few chocolate chip muffins. Arianna, you're comin' with me," he said before grabbing his wife's hand and making his way to the door.
"Good luck, honey," her mom called before being pulled out of the room.
Sebastian's mom smiled and moved to hug Reyna, though she was careful not to hurt her anymore than she already was. "I'm so proud of the woman you've become, dulceata (sweetie). Te iubesc atat de mult (I love you so much)."
"I love you, too, mama," Reyna said as she squeezed her back.
She pulled away, delivering one last smile to Reyna before moving on to her son. "You better take care of her, you understand me?" she spoke as she pulled him into a hug.
"I will, mom," Sebastian assured her. "You have absolutely nothing to worry about."
"I love you, Sebastian."
"I love you, Ma."
Sebastian's mom then pulled away from him. She gave his cheek a quick kiss and bid the two of them goodbye before heading out of the room, leaving the two of them (and two unconscious actresses) alone.
Reyna looked up at Sebastian, who was already looking down at her. A smile appeared on her face, and she reached up to grab his hand.
"I love you."
Sebastian smiled at her, moving to sit down on the edge of her mattress. "I love you, Rey."
"Are you ready to meet this little bean?" Reyna asked as she looked down at her stomach before looking back up at a smiling Sebastian.
He planted a quick kiss to her lips before pulling away, pressing his forehead to hers and placing a hand gently onto her stomach. "As ready as I'll ever be, Foster."
