last dance
THE FIVE MARVEL actors made their way onto the stage as Ellen introduced them. Scarlett and Reyna held onto each others' hands as the three men accompanying them hurried over to Ellen, greeting her before taking their places on their designated stools set up behind the couch. Scarlett and Reyna both greeted Ellen as well before taking their seats in front of the men on the couch. Ellen sat down across from them, an enormous grin on her face.
"Wow," Ellen breathed out. "It's so great to have you all here."
"Thank you for having us," Chris replied.
"I haven't had you guys on in what feels like forever," Ellen said, averting her attention up at Sebastian. "Sebastian, I don't think I've ever had you on, have I?"
Sebastian chuckled and shook his head. "No, you haven't."
"Now's a better time than ever I guess," Ellen exclaimed happily, looking back at the two women sitting on the couch. "And Scarlett—the last time I saw you, which was a long time ago, you had just given birth. How's baby Rose doing?"
"She's doing excellent," Scarlett said with a smile on her face. "She's about to turn three."
Ellen glanced at Sebastian before looking at Reyna. "And I hear you and Sebastian are now the ones on set who are expecting—a little boy, too."
Reyna grinned and nodded her head. "Yes we are."
"Just goes to show everyone what's really happening behind the scenes on a Marvel movie set," Ellen remarked, earning laughter from the audience, as well as the five cast members.
"You aren't too far off," Anthony added.
Ellen chuckled. "But that must be so exciting for you two."
"It is," Sebastian said. "It's definitely a big change for the both of us, but I think we're ready for it."
"I would hope so, because there's no turning back now," Ellen teased. "I have to say, though, Reyna, you look absolutely fantastic. You're not even showing."
Reyna let out a breath. "I am, but I've been wearing a lot of baggy clothes so nobody could tell."
"She's insecure and thinks she's fat," Chris said.
"Well. . .that's kinda what happens when you get pregnant, Reyna," Ellen told her, an amused expression on her face.
"I try to tell her that, but she never wants to listen," Scarlett said, nudging Reyna's arm slightly.
"My cheeks are getting fat; it's embarrassing," Reyna snorted and covered her cheeks with her hands.
"I think it's cute, and I'm sure Sebastian does too," Ellen assured her. "But speaking of embarrassing—today we're doing some more fundraising for Chris's charity with a game called Last Dance, and Chris has picked you to play it with him, Reyna."
Reyna made a face and glanced back at Chris. "You know I can't dance, Chris."
"That's exactly why I chose you," Chris laughed.
"We were going to scare you the way he did with Scarlett, but apparently you have a really bad fight or flight response and that's not good for your baby, so after the break we're going to embarrass you by making you dance instead," Ellen explained to her.
"Oh god," Reyna muttered.
Ellen laughed and gave her a gentle pat on the knee. "You're gonna be fine. But we'll be right back!"
Reyna and Chris made their way over to stand in their designated areas in front of the studio monitor, while Scarlett, Sebastian, and Anthony watched the two of them with very amused expressions on their faces. Reyna was a hundred percent done with Chris, as well as the interview, while Chris was just beginning to have fun with it all. Reyna was one of the worst dancers he knew, so he found that since he couldn't embarrass her by scaring her the way he had originally planned to, embarrassing her by making her dance was the next best choice.
"I hate you for this," Reyna grumbled as she removed her jacket from her shoulders before kicking her heels off of her feet and away from her.
Chris laughed and took his place on his mark. "I'm gonna enjoy this."
"Don't look too happy, Rey," Sebastian called to her, earning a laugh from the audience.
Reyna shot him a glare. "Bite me, Stan."
Ellen quickly made her way over to the two of them, moving to stand in between them before the crew began rolling again. "Are you two ready?"
"Yes," Chris answered.
Ellen turned to look at Reyna. "Are you, Reyna?"
Chris laughed and shook his head. "She doesn't have a choice—let's do this."
Reyna practically froze at the sound of his words and she looked over at Chris, but before she could even think about trying to respond to him, Ellen was speaking again. Reyna stood and listened as she spoke, quickly building up her walls before they had the chance to crumble away on live television.
"Last time you were here, you told us about Christopher's Haven, and us here at Ellen were so touched by it that we had to contribute," Ellen said to Chris. "Now that you're here again, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to give back yet again. We wanna help you raise some more money, so you and Reyna here are gonna play a new game. It's called Last Dance—it's like hot potato but with dancing. Each of you are gonna take turns dancing to whatever dance comes up on the screen; Chris we're gonna start with you, and the quicker you impress me, the quicker I press the button."
Chris nodded his head in understanding and began stretching, while Reyna shook her head at him in slight amusement. "Got it."
After explaining the rest of the rules, Ellen made her way over to her podium.
"You start, Chris," Ellen instructed as she pressed the button.
In seconds, Chris was spinning around as he tried to imitate the dance moves of a ballet dancer, and not long after, Reyna was dancing a very horrible Irish Jig. The two switched back and forth between dances, exchanging laughs and even a lap dance, which Sebastian made sure to call Chris out for. It wasn't until the word vogue flashed across the screen in giant letters that Reyna couldn't bring herself to laugh or find even the smallest ounce of joy anymore, though she remained composed in order to finish the game.
Sebastian had noticed her change in demeanor immediately, and he was more than aware of what had caused it. He still remained unaware of the words Chris had spoken earlier that had triggered her, but he would figure it out soon enough. He knew something like this wasn't just going to go away, but he was determined to help Reyna bury the incident as far down as she possibly could.
It wasn't long before the game had ended and Ellen had handed Chris yet another check for Christopher's Haven. Sebastian was ready to get up and go over to Reyna when Ellen stopped and turned to Reyna.
"And for being such an awesome sport, our friends at Shutterfly are giving you everything you need to make motherhood—and fatherhood—easy for the first few months," Ellen said to Reyna.
The doors behind Chris and Reyna opened up, revealing one of Ellen's crew members behind a cart filled with various supplies used to take care of infants. Reyna's mouth fell open in shock and she looked at Ellen.
"Really?"
Ellen nodded with a smile on her face. "You deserve it after being embarrassed on national television."
"Thank you so much," Reyna chimed happily as she hugged Ellen.
"You're welcome," Ellen replied, turning back to the camera and bidding everyone a goodbye.
Sebastian rushed over to Reyna immediately, bending down to pick up her jacket and her shoes before she could even think. Reyna smiled and thanked him before taking her belongings from his hold.
"Are you okay?" Sebastian asked her.
Reyna's brows furrowed in confusion and she nodded. "Yeah, why?"
"I saw the look on your face when vogue showed up on the screen," Sebastian told her.
"Oh," Reyna frowned. "Involuntary response, I guess."
"How long have you known me, Rey? You know you can't lie to me without me knowing," Sebastian chuckled.
Reyna gave a small smile and took his hand. "We'll talk about it later, okay?"
"We better."
Before Reyna could respond, Ellen walked over to the two of them, a huge smile on her face.
"I really hope you two enjoy our little care package," she said to the couple.
Sebastian's eyes brightened immediately and he stepped away from Reyna long enough to pull Ellen into a hug. "Yeah, thank you so much for that."
"I wish you both the best of luck," Ellen said before walking off, leaving the two of them to stare at the enormous cart of supplies in front of them.
Reyna let out a breath as she looked over it. The mere sight of the diaper bags, the car seat, and the stroller alone made everything feel so surreal for her. She never would've imagined becoming a mother, especially at such a busy point in her life, and she never would've imagined becoming a mother to the child of the man she had only known as her best friend for the better part of fifteen years.
"We're gonna be parents, Sebastian," Reyna said quietly, squeezing his hand and looking up at him.
Sebastian sighed and looked down at Reyna, his blue eyes glistening under the bright lights of the studio. "Yeah, sweetie. . .we are."
