CHAPTER ONE, GRAVEYARDS AND PARTIES
DELILAH FRANCES QUINN WAS HER PARENT'S DAUGHTER. She was raised to be a vampire hunter like her dad. Since the only supernatural being she had encountered was herself, a werewolf, Bonnie, her best friend who was a newbie witch or a psychic and the vampire on November twentieth 2005, five days after her thirteenth birthday and since she encountered the latter on November twentieth, she made it her life's mission to find said vampire and kill him, to avenge her parents. The coroner declared the Quinn's death as animal attacks which the residents of Mystic Falls found weird because why would a mountain lion enter someone's house and kill two people but leave the girl? But no one ever questioned it and only Delilah knew the truth.
Ever since that night the vampire's face wouldn't leave her head, the night was a constant loop that played in her head every time she closed her eyes. Every time she slept it was like a broken dvd that wouldn't stop playing. If a room was too silent the girl could hear her mother scream or his snarling before he sank his teeth into Eleanor and almost into Lilah. If Lilah stared at a stick for too long flashbacks of her staking her father would haunt her and how the vampire just disappeared. Lilah jolted awake with a small gasp.
She wished the nightmares would stop, she looked down to the necklace which was dangling from her neck, the same necklace Sheriff Forbes gave her before she zipped the body bag, the same necklace she scrubbed for hours with tears in her eyes trying to get the blood off. She turned to Caroline who was still sleeping before carefully getting out of the bed and made her way to the kitchen. The girl looked up at the clock and saw the time was 3.54am, with a sigh she got a glass of water which she spilt. Letting out another sigh she placed the glass on the counter and grabbed a towel to clean it up but when she saw the water it looked like blood.
"Care!" Lilah attempted to wake her best friend. "Caroline!" she said a bit louder which caught the blonde's attention.
"What time is it?"
"There's blood on your kitchen floor," Lilah spoke in a shaky voice, watching as the blonde jumped up.
"Where from? Where are you bleeding? Are you okay?" Caroline began questioning the brown haired girl.
"I don't know where it came from, I got a glass of water and looked down and there was blood," she shrugged and followed the blonde to her kitchen. Caroline turned the light on to see no blood which confused Lilah. "It was there I'm telling you. There was blood on the floor."
Caroline sent her a pointed look, "No, it's just water. You had another one of your nightmare's didn't you, you're not awake properly and you can't tell the difference between the nightmare and reality."
"I'm sorry, I swore I saw blood," she whispered, her hands rubbing her eyes.
"It's alright come on," Caroline wrapped her arm around Lilah's shoulder pulling her into the direction of her room.

Lilah hadn't been able to sleep since her nightmare and knew Caroline was right; she couldn't tell the difference between what was in her head and what was real. She needed to get some sleeping tablets or something that would take them away.
After getting what she needed from her locker she began walking down the hallway but bumped into Bonnie and Elena, "Sorry!"
"It's-" Elena cut herself off when she realised who had bumped into her. "Lilah?"
"Are you okay?" Lilah asked before shaking her head. "Stupid question, your parent's just died of course you're not okay."
"No, I'm fine," Elena smiled. The raven haired girl sent her a pointed look.
"You don't have to fake it with me, Elena. I know what it's like," Lilah told her.
"No, really," she smiled again. "I'm fine."
Lilah, Elena, Bonnie and Caroline were the best of friends up until they were thirteen and Lilah's parents died then they drifted apart. Caroline and Lilah being attached at the hip and Bonnie and Elena being attached at the hip but they were still always there for eachother.
"What are you gawking at?" Lilah asked Bonnie since Elena had disappeared into the bathroom and followed her eyeline. "Oh, there's a new guy." The new guy turned around to walk out of the office and Lilah was drawn to his ring, she'd seen something like that somewhere before but where? She couldn't place it.
"I've seen his ring before," Lilah told Caroline as she leant her head against the blonde's locker.
"Who's ring?" Caroline asked, her eyes not leaving his retreating figure.
"The new guy's," she replied.
"Where?"
"That's the thing," she sighed. "I don't know."
During her history class she sat on the desk next to the new guy and stared at his ring trying to place where she had seen it before. She racked and racked her brain until it hit her. Her eyes widened as she realised the vampire that killed her mom had one on. It was the same one. She remembered seeing it while he was gripping onto her mom's neck.
Everyone's eyes turned to the Quinn girl as she rushed out of her seat and towards the bathroom where she locked herself in the cubicle, closing her eyes and making sure not to cry.
He has the same ring but he didn't kill her mom so who did? Is he related to him? Or are they complete strangers who just happen to have the ring?
The thoughts swirled around her head while she gripped onto her necklace with one hand and the other wiping away the uncontrollable hot tears that were streaming down her face. The bathroom door opened and Bonnie knocked on the stall, "Li?"
"I'm fine," she told her. "Tell Tanner I've been sick and I've gone home." Bonnie hesitantly went back to class leaving Delilah to look at herself in the mirror. She let out a sigh when she saw her smudged mascara.
The Quinn girl found herself sitting by her parent's gravestone, placing flowers at it. The girl sat down and began plucking the grass from beside her and began talking, "Why does your death still haunt me so much? It happened four years ago. I never meant to kill you, dad I just saw him and went for him."
"Why did you raise me to be a hunter but not teach me a single thing about being a wolf? Why did you never tell me there would be the possibility I'd trigger it?"
"There's a new guy at school and he wears the exact same ring that the vampire wore that night. It's not him though, but he could be related to him and when I find him I'm going to kill him," she told the gravestone, the determination evident in both her voice and eyes. A crow landed on the gravestone which made her look around confused, her face twisting more confused when fog began rolling in. It was 2.23 in the afternoon, in broad daylight where did the fog come from? Her brain was telling her to run but her body was frozen as she looked around attempting to get up and leave. She eventually got up and made her way to the gates, missing the man staring at her as she did so.

Delilah was standing by a tree drinking out of a blue plastic cup when the new guy approached her, "Hey, you alright, you ran out of class earlier."
"Yeah, I'm fine," the girl replied. "Didn't feel well so I went home. I never heard your name, what is it?"
"Stefan. Stefan Salvatore," he answered. "What's yours?"
"Delilah Quinn but everyone calls me Lilah," she held out her hand for him to shake which he did and she noticed his ring. "That's a big ring. I've seen one like it before, where did you get it?"
"It's a family heirloom," he answered before it registered that she said she had seen one before. "Where have you seen one before?"
"Some guy had one a while ago," Lilah shrugged, deciding to test the waters a bit more. "If it's a family heirloom then that must mean you have a brother?"
"We don't speak much anymore but yes, I have a brother," he nodded. Lilah was now aware that the vampire that killed her mom was Stefan's brother, but she wasn't going to let him know that she knew his brother was a vampire.
Caroline approached the two with a jealous look on her face that Lilah noticed before it turned into a smile, "There you are. I've been looking for you." Lilah was unsure if the blonde was talking to her or Stefan but she took it as her cue to leave to get another drink.
"When I touched you, I saw a crow," Bonnie told Elena as the brown haired girl approached them.
"You saw the crow too?" Lilah asked and Elena nodded. "Fog too?"
Elena didn't reply but looked down as Bonnie went on, "I'm drunk. It's the drinking. There's nothing psychic about it. Yeah? Okay, I'm going to get a refill." Delilah followed after Bonnie, needing another drink.
Lilah was drunk. Far too drunk but not drunk enough to forget about what was about to happen. Both Caroline and Bonnie tried to get her to slow down but she was having none of it until she heard Elena shout for help while helping Jeremy carry who she was assuming was Vicki's body. Lilah dropped her cup when she heard Elena say, "It's her neck."
Was it him again? Was he back? Lilah asked herself while looking at Stefan who was looking at the scene unfold before walking away. Lilah decided to follow him. "You know what attacked her don't you?" she asked him. Stefan came to a halt in front of her.
"No, why would you think that?" he asked.
"Because my mom had the exact same bite mark on her neck after your brother drained her of her blood," she told him, watching him slowly turn around.
"Lilah, you're drunk. You don't know what you're saying," he attempted to tell her.
"We both know what I'm saying but everyone will say she got attacked by a mountain lion right?" she asked.
Stefan placed his hands on the girl's shoulder, his pupils dilating as he spoke, "You're going to go back to the party and find Caroline to take you home and you're going to forget about this conversation." When the girl didn't move he looked confused.
"What was that?" she asked through a series of giggles. "Sorry, I shouldn't laugh but I can't help it, that was funny." Stefan stared at her even more confused. Why couldn't she be compelled? What was she? Was she a vampire?
Stefan had disappeared and Lilah decided to go back to the party wondering what the hell Stefan was trying to do.
"There you are!" Caroline sighed in relief, her hands grabbing Lilah's arms pulling her into a hug. "I thought whatever attacked Vicki got you too."
Lilah wriggled her way out of Caroline's embrace, "I need a drink."
"You've had enough," Bonnie told her, blocking her path.
"Just one more."
🌕
The Quinn girl stared at the ceiling in her bedroom after quadruple checking her doors and windows were locked. If he was back and was Stefan's brother that meant she'd be seeing him a lot more so not only would that night plague her nightmares she would also be reminded of what happened every time she saw his face. She closed her eyes and hoped she wouldn't have a nightmare. She also wished she could turn whenever she wanted because she found solace in running around the forest.
