Preliminary investigations into (KNIFECATCHER) show that the Soviet Union deployed a reinforced infantry battalion in nearly brigade force, backed up by a Vympel mountaineering company, with helicopters for infiltration/exfiltration. The Soviet forces first infiltrated by penetrating the 1K Zone, moving up the mountain, and setting up a command post to bring in the infantry unit.

During this time, according to information gleaned from the survivors of (KNIFECATCHER) it appears that the infiltration and air traffic section of the Vympel team was attacked by the wolves that roam the slopes of (RUBY GOOSE) and killed.

The Soviet infantry and the remainder of the Vympel team landed at the airfield of (RUBY GOOSE) and set up operations.

At this time the members of (RUBY GOOSE) were unaware that they were under observation by Soviet forces involved in (KNIFECATCHER) and were merely carrying on with Rear Detachment duties.

Among the Rear Detachment was 1LT JAMES (REDACTED). As per DD201 file, JAMES is an experienced combat veteran, with combat experience in Vietnam in 1969 during (TALON COMPANY) and (BLACK HAMMER). Having returned to duty following recovery from his headwound suffered during (BODY STRIKE) he has shown the willingness to go to extreme measures to ensure victory, as was detailed in his court-martial in 1970 despite his being found not guilty of violation of the Geneva Convention.

Additionally, Rear Detachment contained several soldiers of (ATLAS) who have been engaged in sub-conflict combat with Soviet forces, including one CORPORAL STILLWATER, ANTHONY (NI).

These two datapoints must be considered when evaluating what transpired.

However, two more datapoints have come to my attention. They are as follows:

1) Alfenwehr is extremely hostile to life. Temperatures are frequently recorded that seem impossible to take place on planet Earth. The wildlife is overly large and frequently extremely aggressive. Including with this report is a photograph of a fang ripped free from the jaws of a canine specimen referred to as "wargs" (from the Lord of the Rings and Nordic legends) by the inhabitants of this mountain. As you can see, the fang is nearly eighteen (18) inches long. To continue: The underbrush seems more to hinder any human presence than to provide sustenance to any wildlife. The slopes of the mountain suffer what is called "atmospheric banding" by soldiers stationed here. This is when different pressures are only a few hundred meters apart and slowly sweep across the landscape, subjecting anyone caught unprotected to rapid compression and decompression in the millibar range. Darkness and nightime seem to exceed normal time scale range. (As of this writing it is dawn after what is estimated to be fifty hours of darkness, it is undetermined how long daytime will last)

2) The presence of one Private Second Class McCullen, Aine (NI). Superficially, she appears to be a normal female soldier of diminutive stature and slender build. After Action Investigation has revealed that she's a highly skilled combatant who bit a Soviet soldier's throat out during a bayonet charge. While at first an investigator may scoff, this investigator has witnessorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Praesent semper feugiatwith the entire operation having possibly been compromised by elements beyond this investigator's understanding.

With all of that said, I concur with the assessment by the Department of Defense that Alfenwehr MUST be manned at all costs. The mountain provides a direct conduit into Western Germany and properly prepared it could provide a method for inserting tanks through the Bavarian Alps and into West Germany without the use of the Fulda Gap by merely expanding on several already existing roads.

My recommendation is to simply close the file.

There is nothing here for us.
