Chapter 9: Firm perseverance
A/N: Hey everyone. So I'm back... kinda. Why so long? I've explained in my authore note before so I hope you like this part.
"Did you meet Dylan's new chick? What's her name Amy something" Tom asked him. He shook his head and finished the bite in his mouth before answering. "No but he has told a lot about her. She sounds exactly like the girl he needed right now" "I don't know dude, he sent me a picture of hers and she's so weird looking. I mean do you remember how hot Sydney was and Amy is just so bland". The buzzing in the café getting to his head was enough to annoy him and Tom's word struck a nerve. "Are you seriously judging her based on her looks? You do remember that Sydney was a bitch who cheated on him multiple times?" he replied incredulously. "Yeah but I'm not saying he should get back together with Sydney. I'm just saying he should've found someone near his standards" Tom replied calmly cutting into his pancakes.
"What the hell is wrong with you man? You've never even met this girl and you're making assumptions about her. She seems like a nice girl who is pulling Dylan out of the hellhole he was in since the past year and you're over here passing comments on her looks. We should be happy for him" he seethed, anger sweeping over his senses. "What's gotten you in such a twist? Do you like her or something? If you are leave it and take it from me she's a bit on the heavy side" Tom told him a smirk etched on his face.
Before he could control himself his fist collided with Tom's nose. He didn't give Tom the time to react punching him once again. "What the hell is wrong with you man?" "What's wrong is that you won't stop making comments on someone you haven't even met. I can't even look at you right now". He stood up and left. All that kept playing in his mind was 'fat' 'ugly' 'whore' back to back.
These were the words people used to call his best friend in school, Lyla, and he never defended her thinking that she was strong and didn't let those words bother her. He was very wrong and he realized that when he found her laying on her bathroom floor. An empty bottle of pills beside her. He tried to save her but he couldn't. Holding her and seeing the light fade from her eyes was the hardest thing and it took years to let go of the guilt but now hearing Tom's words brought back the memories and he lost control. He could not let someone pass judgements about someone and just sit around. He can't witness another Lyla, at least not on his watch.
A/N: So this one is for all the people who sit back and observe. Standing up for someone, even a person you don't know, can make a big difference. It can show the person that they're not alone. That people care and that they matter :).
