Chapter 6 - Isabelle

The animals stood in a circle around the bonfire, ignoring the pleas of the fuel. Isabelle could scarcely recognize those stand around her. She knew that a cat was on her left and a duck was on her right, but other than those details, everything else was a mystery. Everyone wore a black cloak with the hood up, including Isabelle. The victim, however, wore what was once a potato sack, although that was the first thing to be reduced to ash. The fur and flesh of the beast would be the next thing to go.

Isabelle wanted to cover her ears to block out the screams emanating from the stake, but she found herself unable to move her limbs from her side. What started as cries for help deteriorated into primal screams of pain. The flames reached up and the charred beast was unviewable, much to Isabelle's relief. She looked up at the sky. She noticed how full of stars it was. In a sick sort of beauty, the rising embers looked like they were joining the stars. Isabelle felt tears on her cheeks, but found herself unable to wipe them away.

Eventually, shrieks turned into whimpers, and whimpering turned into silence. The coals smoldered under what remained of the anonymous beast. Isabelle finally pushed free of whatever binded her, and ran to the fire pit. She shuddered and everything went dark.

Isabelle was laying on a cold floor in an incredibly dark room. It was just a horrific nightmare. Opening her eyes did almost nothing, however, as there where no doors or windows to help her. She patted herself down and found she was wearing her work clothes. The dog dug her paws in her pockets and pulled out her invitation. She sighed in relief. It wasn't hurt.

But wait, where am I? she thought. She racked her brain trying to recall how she got there. The last thing she could remember was driving a City Tripper on the road, and then nothing. She was on her way to the Smash Mansion, but must've been stopped. Isabelle felt panic rise in her. The floors looked like they had been scratched by many different creatures. Isabelle looked around for any way to escape the chamber. Finding nothing, she curled up on the ground.
