Chapter 2 - Toon Link

Around noon, Toon Link made his way over to some of the slight hills around the mansion. He carried some food Link made in a small satchel. Link was often cooking things, and was glad to share with the other Links and anyone else who asked. Today he made mushroom rice balls, and Toon Link was grateful.

Under a slightly beaten up tree, Toon Link saw a figure sitting. The unique silhouette gave away that it was Greninja. Toon Link smiled slightly, and waved as he approached.

Most Pokémon could not speak the same language as some of the more human-like creatures. The ones that couldn't had to find other ways to communicate, such as body language and expression. Another common way during combative training was through fighting. Some people were better at reading Pokémon than others, and Toon Link felt he was decent at best.

"Hi, Greninja. What are doing out here? Are you having lunch, too?" Toon Link asked the large amphibian. Greninja nodded and held up a Kalosian pastry. She stopped a moment, as if signifying she had more say. Greninja pointed to a series of scratches on the tree and then hummed.

"You are here for lunch, but you used to train here, right?" Toon Link was pretty sure he understood, but always asked just in case. He wished Lucario was here to translate without all the extra steps. In response to his question, Greninja nodded then covered her eye.

"That's right! You used to train here with Sheik once or twice a week!" Toon Link felt a little embarrassed for not remembering. He couldn't tell, but he thought Greninja was smiling. Toon Link's mood shifted after thinking about how Greninja must not have befriended the "new" Sheik. No one really had, "he" was more secretive and mysterious than the other one.

"Do you miss 'er?" Toon Link asked, a little sad himself. Greninja's nod was barely visible. She looked at Toon Link with a strange expression in her eyes. Toon Link could understand, through that one look, how Greninja felt. She was sad about her friend leaving, and wanted to make a new friend. But by doing that, she would be in a sense "replacing" her first friend.

"I know how ya feel," Toon Link reassured Greninja. "The same thing is happening to me with some of the new people."

Greninja looked relived to have someone that could relate to her.  She wrapped a thin arm around his shoulder in a reassuring half-hug. The two finished their lunches together.
