18: The choices we made (Riley)
I was evil in my comments on the last chapter, and no regrets :3
I know a few of you guys wanted this chapter in third person. At first, I wrote the chapter in third person, but it was, to put it mildly, crap. So I rewrote it from Riley's POV.
We charged at Entity with no plan other than to somehow push him into a rip and hope that it closed up after him. Entity simply grinned at us and waited. Red arrows flew over my head as Bajan shot them at Entity. Entity's sword became a dull shield of black metal, deflecting each arrow that came at him, the arrows falling harmlessly to the ground. Sky reached Entity before I did, his butter sword humming a deadly song. Entity stepped back so that Sky was between him and Bajan, his sword clashing with Sky's. Then Jerome was there, his axe aimed for Entity's neck. The red-eyed hacker ducked then blocked Sky's next stroke. He kicked Sky's stomach, denting the armour before punching Jerome in the face and sending them both flying away with his red magic. I dropped to the ground as Sky flew over me, looking up just in time to see one of Sub's daggers missing Entity by centimetres. Bajan had stopped firing arrows and when I looked back, I saw that he had also been sent flying and had crashed into the wall, momentarily dazed.
I quickly stood up and ran to Entity, Sub right behind me. Our swords crashed, blue on black. I tried to move around him and push him towards the rip, but he stood still, if anything, getting further away from the rip. His sword strikes suddenly became a lot faster, and I could barely block them, my sword jerking my arm several times to keep my head in place. I saw flashes of Sub sneaking up behind Entity, his arm going back and then slashing across Entity's back. Entity hissed in pain and his leg lashed out, first kicking Sub aside, then kicking me away too. I landed painfully on my shoulder as I rolled to a halt, flicking my hair out of my face. My eyes widened as I saw moving shadows behind Entity.
The mobs with the red eyes. Dozens of them, pouring in from behind Entity, their red eyes matching his. He must be controlling them, why else would they be here? Several zombies lunged towards me and I parried their swords, cutting at their arms, legs, wherever I could. Out of the corners of my eyes, I could see Bajan exchanging arrows with skeletons, the skeleton's arrows shattering against his armour while Bajan's arrows struck home. Jerome was taking on a combination of zombies and skeletons while Sub was darting in between spiders, stabbing them with his dagger. Sky was taking on Entity, trying to push him closer to the rip, but he needed help, fast.
I stabbed the chest of the zombie and ran over, stopping Entity's sword before it could cut Sky's arm. He slashed at me but Sky's sword intercepted it, flicking back over to cut Entity's arm. Entity disappeared just before the sword made contact and Sky stumbled forward a few steps when his sword met no resistance. My arm jerked as my sword pulled me 180 degrees, only just stopping Entity's sword from plunging into my chest. With a flick of his wrist, Entity sent Sky flying to the wall. Sub, Bajan and Jerome were still fighting the mobs, who didn't stop coming. Entity's leg lashed out at me, kicking my chest. I hit the ground several metres away, all the air escaping my chest. Entity teleported next to me, smirking down at me. I rode to roll away but he kept me pinned with his foot.
"Goodbye Riley," he said. He spun his sword and plunged it down into my chest.
A blade of white fire intercepted the black blade, deflecting at away from my chest. I heard the sound of a foot hitting someone and Entity was thrown away. I turned my head to the right, and saw grey shoes and purple pants. It couldn't be, but then he pulled me up, and I saw that it was.
Hero.
His white eyes were glowing with white fire, pulsing in time with the fire of his sword. He looked slightly confused, but the scowl he gave Entity told me that he had chosen his side. And he wasn't changing.
"What are you doing?" Entity yelled at Hero. The mobs around the room had stopped fighting, and everyone was staring at the two glowing eyed figures.
Hero glared at him. "I might not remember everything, but I remember enough. I know what you did, I know who you are. And I know that you're my enemy."
Entity growled at him. "Then I have nothing to lose by killing you."
They charged at each other, their swords flashing as they clashed, black on white. Their magic flashed, red on white, their movements so fast I couldn't see what was happening. Something was gleaming beside me and I looked down, almost dropping my sword. It was glowing white, the glow like flickering flames. Like Hero's.
"I need some help here!" Sub yelled using mind-speech.
I ran to help him. He was almost overwhelmed with spiders, his armour scratched in several places and he only had one dagger. I killed the spiders from behind with my glowing sword until they were all dead. I glanced at Hero and Entity and realised that Entity was slowly being pushed closer and closer to the rip. This was our chance!
Sky and Jerome took down the last of the zombies while Bajan duelled with the last skeleton. Just as the skeleton died, Hero as thrown back and he crashed against the wall, part of the wall falling and almost hitting him. He managed to roll away and avoid it at the last moment. Before Entity could follow up his advantage, Jerome charged, his axe swinging. Entity barely dodged it, and by then Sky and Bajan had caught up with him. Bajan had exchanged his bow for his sword and the three of them took on Entity. Sub (now with both his daggers) hung back and watched them, dashing forward to cut Entity whenever there was a gap. I ran over to Hero.
"Are you alright?" I asked, helping him stand up even though he didn't need my help.
"Fine," he said. He had a thin cut on his left arm, but apart from that, he was unhurt. He hadn't lost his grip on his sword.
"We just need to push him into the rip," I told Hero.
"I know, I heard you say that. All you need to do is put him off balance. I'll do the rest."
I nodded and ran towards Entity, my sword swinging. I clashed it as hard as I could against his then danced out of his reach, letting Sky take my place. We each took turns at this, darting in and out, slowly pushing Entity further and further towards the rip, attacking him like a pack of wolves attacking a stag. A very fast and dangerous stag. Red trendily of energy kept trying to rise up and grab us, but each time, white energy crushed the, to nothing. Finally, Entity was less than a metre away from the rip. Jerome smashed his axe down and Entity, in a moment of foolishness, tried to block it with his sword. His sword smashed into pieces and Entity stumbled back a step.
"MOVE!"
I darted out of the way as Hero ran towards Entity, jumping and kicking Entity with both of his feet. Entity flew back, tripped over the edge of the rip and fell through, screaming. Sub slashed his dagger in a 'Z' shape along the rip and it sealed shut, trapping Entity out of Minecraft.
So, what do you guys think?
