Outside the Commonwealth, 3rd POV

The cold, gray sky stretched over the ruined highways as the Enclave convoy rumbled forward. Massive, armored APCs and Vertibirds hovered overhead, the symbol of a once-mighty faction now reduced to a shadow of its former self. Dust and debris kicked up from the wheels of the lead vehicles, scattering across the desolate landscape, the Commonwealth loomed just over the horizon.

Inside one of the APCs, Sergeant Major Tyler Skelton slept uneasily. His body ached from the relentless shifts he had pulled in preparation for this mission. The mission to restore the Enclave and restore the American government. It had been years since Raven Rock and Camp Navarro had fallen, and now, what was left of the Enclave was heading to the Commonwealth in a last-ditch effort to reestablish themselves.

The convoy had been moving non-stop for days, navigating the dangerous roads with the precision and discipline only the Enclave could maintain. The journey had been exhausting for everyone, but Tyler had taken on extra duties, scouting ahead, overseeing equipment checks, and handling squad briefings. Now, exhaustion had finally claimed him.

Suddenly, the harsh crackle of the intercom broke through the stillness inside the APC.

"Sergeant Major Skelton," the intercom crackled,"report to Colonel Reinfield immediately."

Tyler's eyes shot open and then groaned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes as he pushed himself upright. His power armor felt heavier than usual, weighed down by days of wear and stress. Without wasting any time, he grabbed his helmet, secured it in place, and stepped out of the APC into the cold, dusty air of the Wasteland. The convoy stretched out before him, a line of Enclave vehicles moving steadily toward the Commonwealth.

Vertibirds patrolled overhead, their shadows passing over the cracked roads below. Tyler walked with purpose toward the lead vehicle, the command APC where Colonel John Reinfield waited. He climbed inside and found the Colonel standing over a large holographic map of the surrounding area. The lights from the holo-map flickered across Reinfield's grizzled features, giving him an almost ghostly appearance.

"Sergeant Major Tyler Skelton reporting for duty, sir, " Tyler said, saluting to the Colonel

Reinfield looked up, his cold, calculating gaze locking onto Tyler before giving a sharp nod.

"At ease, Sergeant Major," Colonel Reinfield said,"we're closing in on the Commonwealth's outskirts. It's going to get rough from here on out."

Tyler remained standing, listening closely. The Colonel gestured to the map, highlighting a cluster of markers near the border.

"This is where we'll make our first stop, the area's relatively abandoned," he said,"but we'll need to set up a temporary outpost before moving further in. I want your squad on perimeter security the moment we arrive. You know the drill."

"Understood sir," Tyler said as he looked over the map,"I'll have my team ready as soon as we hit the outskirts."

Reinfield straightened up, crossing his arms as he looked out one of the slits in the APC. They were even lucky to have operating APCs, hell even having the Vertibirds were a blessing from God, ever since Camp Narravo they're been surviving on rations, scavenged supplies and using their Power Armor to secure the convoy, even though it was limited

But, he knew they would persevere, and they will bring the glory of the American government back. And make it the superpower it was a long time ago, before the bombs fell and destroyed the world

"The Enclave has survived worse than this, Sergeant Major," Reinfield said,"but we need to be careful. The Commonwealth is lawless, and without a foothold, we're vulnerable."

"Plus with our limited supplies we need to be careful with what we use," Tyler said as he knew

He looks at the map, seeing what he was assigned to and nodded, fully aware of the dangers that awaited them. The Commonwealth was a wild, hostile land, but it was also full of opportunity. A place where the Enclave could rise from the ashes and rebuild what had been lost, and maybe get some wins for once.

"We'll secure the area, sir," Tyler stated,"we won't let anything catch us off guard."

"Good, this area for a reason," he said as he traced the map,"it's isolated, but we'll have enough resources to begin our operations. I'll give you more details once we're there. For now, just keep your team sharp."

"Yes, sir, me and my team will handle it."

"Good, dismissed Sergeant Major."

Tyler nodded as he walked out of the APC, his spine shivering as he heard those words, Sergeant Major. He was only 19, he got the promotion cause he was in the Enclave ever since he was a kid, his parents were in it and so were theirs. He was made Sergeant Major a year ago, only cause there was less higher ranking troops to command the lower ranks in the field

He sighed as he made way to the back of the convoy continued its steady progress, kicking up dust and debris along the broken highway. He squinted against the light, scanning the area before heading back toward the vehicle where his team was stationed.

His squad, composed of Corporal James "Jimmy" Renfield, Lance Corporal Sarah "Sparrow" Harris, and Private First Class Logan "Bulls" Carter, was waiting inside their APC. The familiar thrum of machinery buzzed in the background as Tyler approached, his boots thudding heavily against the steel ramp as he entered.

Inside, the space was cramped, dimly lit by flickering consoles and screens that displayed various tactical readouts and maps of the Commonwealth. The moment Tyler entered, his team straightened up, seeing Jimmy was seated at the back, tinkering with a piece of equipment, a field mod for his laser rifle.

His engineering expertise was a key asset to the squad. Sparrow sat in the corner, checking the calibration on her Gauss Rifle with quiet efficiency, her sharp eyes darting to Tyler as he entered. Bulls, the squad's heavy weapons expert, leaned against the wall, casually inspecting his Gatling Laser, his imposing frame nearly filling the small space of the APC.

Tyler nodded at each of them as he stepped in, the weariness of his extended shifts lingering but hidden beneath his usual disciplined demeanor. He walked up to the small map holo-projector they had, which was almost in disrepair due to the lack of supplies to repair it. Then tapped a few buttons to bring up the map of the Commonwealth. A glowing point blinked at the edge of the region, marking their target zone.

"Alright, listen up everyone, we're about to enter the Commonwealth's outskirts, and Colonel Reinfield has given us our first objective," he said ,"we'll be setting up a temporary outpost at the designated location and securing the perimeter.

The area is mostly abandoned, but we can't assume it'll stay that way. I want us to be ready for anything, raiders, mutants, or worse, our job is to secure the perimeter while the outpost is being established. Sparrow, you'll take the high ground and provide overwatch. Jimmy, I need you to set up defenses, mines, turrets, whatever we've got on hand. Bulls, you're on heavy support. If anything hostile shows up, I want you to hit them hard and fast."

Sparrow gave a small nod, already thinking through her vantage points. She was medium height, with dark skin with long black hair and blue eyes, a slender body that made her the most stealthiest of the group and she was the best shot.

"I'll keep an eye out," Sparrow said,"any word on expected threats?"

"Intel's sketchy, all we know is that the Commonwealth is crawling with hostiles," Tyler said as he shook his head,"we're going in blind on this one, so we don't take any chances. Stay sharp, kill anything that attacks you or us."

Jimmy finished adjusting his equipment, setting the modded rifle down with a clank before speaking up. He was tall, around 5'12, short shaggy brown hair and green eyes, with some scars and bruises on his face.

"I'll rig up some perimeter defenses, should keep the critters and whatever else is out there at bay," Jimmy said,"we've got enough gear to hold the area for a few days, maybe longer if we get creative."

Logan "Bulls" Carter hefted his Gatling Laser onto his shoulder, the weight seemingly nothing to him. Logan was the tallest of the team at 6'9, Tyler being second at 6'4, he was tanned, black crew cut hair and blue eyes, he was bulky with him needing bigger equipment for his uniform.

"Anything comes close, they're gonna wish they stayed hidden," he said with a smile,"we'll keep 'em off our backs."

Tyler glanced around the team, his mind already running through the mission checklist. His squad was solid, they knew what needed to be done, and they'd faced worse before. But the Commonwealth was unfamiliar territory, and they couldn't afford any mistakes. Especially since he heard rumors from caravans and rouge traders they dealed with on their exodus here

"Good, gear up and check your supplies," he said,"we move out in fifteen mikes, don't slack."

With that, the squad moved into action, like well oiled machines. Sparrow slung her Gauss Rifle over her back, methodically checking her sidearm and holstering it at her hip. Her movements were fluid, practiced, and precise, just like the recon specialist she was. She grabbed a pack from the corner of the APC, filled with extra ammunition and two Stealth Boys for emergencies.

Jimmy, ever the engineer, went through his toolkit, ensuring he had everything he needed for setting up defenses. Laser trip mines, pulse grenades, and a portable terminal were stuffed into his field bag. His laser rifle, modified to include an under-barrel grenade launcher, rested at his side, ready for whatever surprise the Commonwealth might throw at them.

Bulls, meanwhile, gave his Gatling Laser one last check, spinning the barrels briefly before securing it with a clunk. His secondary weapon, a missile launcher, was strapped to his back along with a few spare rockets. His armor was bulkier than the others, reinforcing his role as the heavy hitter of the squad. He grinned at Tyler as he hefted his gear.

"I'm good to go, boss," he said,"let's see what the Commonwealth has in store."

Tyler checked his own gear next as he chuckled a bit, his plasma rifle gleamed with readiness, its scope already calibrated for mid to long-range combat and a reinforced stock to give him stability. He adjusted the power settings, ensuring the plasma bolts would hit with maximum force. His Enclave Officer's Laser Pistol was holstered securely at his side, always ready for quick-draw action.

Satisfied, he double-checked his stimpaks and emergency supplies, strapping everything into place. Once the team was fully geared up, Tyler gathered them near the rear exit of the APC.

"Remember the mission, set up the outpost and secure the area, we're the vanguard here," he stated,"if we fail, the whole operation could fall apart. Stay alert and watch each other's backs, no heroics, now move out."

With a unified nod, the squad moved to the exit ramp, ready to deploy. As the ramp lowered and the cold air of the Commonwealth swept into the APC, Tyler led his team out into the unknown. He looked behind him, seeing his Power Armor shaking a bit as he drove the APC, he sighed as he wished he could repair it properly, but no supplies and nowhere to do it

'Lets hope this will give us something to work with,' he thought in private

Timeskip, a few hours later

As the APC rumbled to a halt, Tyler stepped down from the vehicle, the weight of his power armor shifting comfortably around him. The familiar hum of its servos and the solid thud of each step made him feel secure, like an unstoppable force ready for whatever the Commonwealth had in store. His team followed behind, their weapons ready and eyes scanning the area.

The wind blew through the desolate landscape, rustling debris and broken branches across the uneven ground. The designated outpost location was a wide clearing surrounded by the ruins of old, crumbling buildings. The ground was scattered with broken concrete and rusty metal, remnants of a world long gone. Despite the decayed surroundings, the site had strategic value—clear lines of sight and enough space to set up defenses.

Tyler raised his hand, signaling the team to spread out.

"Alright, you know the drill; Sparrow, take the high ground on that structure," he said, pointing to a nearby building that still had part of its roof intact,"Jimmy, set up the perimeter defenses around the clearing. Bulls, you're on heavy support, keep your eyes open for anything out of the ordinary."

Without a word, Sparrow slung her rifle over her shoulder and dashed toward the ruined building. She moved quickly and quietly, already scouting for the perfect vantage point. Jimmy unpacked his toolkit, setting down pulse grenades and laser trip mines in key positions, his hands working quickly and efficiently. Bulls, with his heavy weapon slung over his shoulder, walked in slow circles, keeping watch for any potential threats.

Tyler moved toward the center of the clearing, his helmet's HUD displaying the terrain around them. His enhanced vision scanned the area for any movement. Everything seemed quiet, too quiet, which makes him unsettled. Places like this was good for ambushes, they experienced that multiple times during their exodus ton the Commonwealth

As the team worked, a faint rustling sound echoed from the distance, followed by a low, guttural groan. Tyler turned sharply, his sensors picking up movement from the shadows of a nearby building. His visor zoomed in, revealing a group of ghouls, twisted, feral remnants of humanity, shambling toward them. Their decayed forms moved erratically, driven by some primal instinct.

There were a dozen of them, but their numbers didn't worry Tyler. His team had faced worse, Legion, Brotherhood and a lot of Raiders that ambush them for months.

"Ghouls incoming," he barked through the comms,"get ready."

Sparrow was the first to react, already in position on the rooftop, she lined up her shot with her Gauss Rifle and fired. The quiet crack of the rifle was followed by a flash of energy, and one of the ghouls collapsed immediately, a giant hole in its chest from the round. She kept firing at a steady pace, taking out more Ghouls that came from the original group

On the ground, Bulls hefted his Gatling Laser, the barrels spinning with a mechanical whir. A barrage of energy beams shot out in rapid succession, striking the advancing ghouls with deadly precision. Several of the creatures dropped instantly, unable to withstand the concentrated fire as they were ripped apart from the laser fire.

Jimmy quickly activated the trip mines he'd set, and moments later, two ghouls stumbled into the invisible laser beams. A burst of energy flared up, making a small explosion that made small plums of smoke and fire, plus blood and a bunch of body parts fly around and fell to the ground. He smiled as he lobbed his Pluse Grenade and that managed to blow more up, blood, guts and body parts flying around

Tyler moved forward, his plasma rifle humming with power as he took aim at the remaining ghouls. A steady stream of green plasma bolts flew from the rifle, hitting the ghouls with pinpoint accuracy. Each shot struck its target, dropping the ghouls one by one as they drew closer, sizzling green burn marks on their chests or heads, or even turing into green goop

Despite the feral creatures' relentless advance, Tyler and his team handled the situation with practiced ease. Sparrow continued to pick off ghouls from above, while Bulls kept them at bay with his heavy firepower. Jimmy, standing behind cover, activated another mine just as the last of the ghouls reached the perimeter, using his rifle that got by the mines.

Within minutes, the threat was neutralized, vaporized or blown up. The last of the ghouls fell, their bodies motionless on the ground, the area now clear and silent once again.

"All clear," Tyler said, lowering his rifle,"nice work, team. Let's get back to setting up the outpost."

Sparrow descended from her vantage point with a nod, Jimmy packed away his tools, and Bulls gave a satisfied grunt, holstering his Gatling Laser. Tyler scanned the area one last time, the ghouls had been dealt with, and they still had enough time to set up before the rest of the force arrived. His team was efficient, disciplined, and reliable, just as he expected.

"Stay sharp, we don't know what else is out here," he said,"let's finish up before nightfall, I'll report to Command."

The team moved back into position, resuming their preparations as the wind continued to blow across the wasteland. Tyler walked to the APC, removing the Enclave Power Armor helmet, then turned the radio on, then adjusted to the Enclave frequency. He clicked a few times in Morse code, it was standard protocol after Navarro, to ensure it was friendlies contacting them

"Rank, name and serial number," the operator said

"Sergeant Major Tyler Skelton, serial number S-8943-2567," he reported, using the serial number

"Acknowledged Sergeant Major, what do you need?"

"Give me Colonel Reinfield."

He waited a few minutes until he heard some shuffling, then the Colonels voice

"Sergeant Major, go ahead," Reinfield said

"Mission AO is secured sir, we are setting up defenses and clearing the perimeter," Tyler reported said,"we ran into some Ghouls, but we took care of them."

"Good to hear Sergeant Major, stay there until the convoy gets there. We'll send the Vertibirds there ahead to give you back up and supplies, copy?"

"Copy that sir, Sergeant Major Skelton out."

Tyler hanged the radio up and puts his helmet back on, grabbed his Plasma rifle then went to assists Jimmy and Bull. He sighed heavy as he walked back to his team, wondering what the next thing he and his team will do in the Commonwealth.
