16. Fever Dreams ♥︎
The soft waves of Everland's beach were hitting Lily's feet. A breeze played with her hair that had returned to reach the mid of her back. A smile appeared on her face as if all her worries were forgotten. The smell of the ocean filled her breathing. She looked in admiration at the pastel colors changing and turning high in the sky. The sun was setting. Warmth of a summers day left his hot traces on her skin. She hummed to herself, a song she thought she had forgotten.
The song reminded her of Magdalena, the sweet maid back at home in Costa Luna. This sudden memory made her thoughts race, unlikely to her calm surroundings. Why was she in Everland? Had she trusted Peter? Then memories, sense even, flooded back to her. If she was here, back on the island, that meant Peter had killed her father and she had forgiven him for that. She turnt around, a sudden anxiety taking over her. She walked away from the beach, her heartbeat raising and her breathing shallowed with every step.
She didn't hesitate to reach the open place from that horrendous night. She looked around. No bodies, no King. Only a lost sword perched up in the dirt. It shone as one of the last sunbeams touched it's brave steel. Taking steady steps, she strode towards the weapon. Around the base lay some flowers, purples, pinks and yellows. Lily pinched her eyes close, the tears dangerously close to falling.
« Lily? » she heard. For a second she hoped it was her father, but as she looked at the figure descending from the shadows, she knew that hope was lost. She swallowed and stood up, fixing her dress around her. Peter approached her, eyeing her with curiosity and covered in sadness. He looked good, to her own disliking. He hadn't changed a bit except for the open look that differed so much from the look on his face when she left him. « You've come back? » Peter asked her.
Lily bit her tears away, remembering where she was. « I did not. » she claimed. She straightened her back and tried to seem intimidating, though her voice was trembling and her knees where shaking. If this was a dream, she needed to wake up now. She dug her nails deeper into the palms of her hand.
« Hey... » Peter said and he hesitated but approached her. He wanted to take her hand, prevent her from hurting herself, but Lily quickly stalked back. Peter looked defeated, not knowing what to do. He took a moment to look at Lily, give her a descent inspection. Her face didn't change. Her long blonde hair framing her chubby cheeks and the freckles spreading all over her nose. He met her cold eyes, filled with hatred. « I'm so sorry, Lily... » He whispered, but his words were abnormally loud. Lily huffed and turned away from him, her eyes not leaving him for a second.
« A little late don't you think. » She replied, anger burning underneath her tongue. When Peter looked up again, he met her cold stare once more. « You really hate me, don't you? » He said but Lily only turned her back on him. « That shouldn't even be a question, Pan. »
« Lily, please. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you. » Peter replied reaching out for her, but again she was too quick. She turned away, easily avoiding him.
« And I think about you too, Peter. » Lily said and for a split second Peter thought he was getting closer. « How you killed my father that night. How you cut his heart to pieces though he was defenseless. How he was bleeding in this same fucking place! But you are sorry! How thoughtful of you! » She screamed. This rage was something Peter had never seen before. He felt darkness nipping at the edges of his mind, but he knew he had to do this. He had to stay calm, he had to prove himself to Lily. He could be a good guy.
« I'm so glad I don't have to look at you any more! Every thought of you breaks my heart, seeing you is just too much to handle! You disgust me!» Lily let out and she turned her back on him again.
Peter remained silent. Darkness was demanding his way in, but Peter held the walls up high. « Too defeated to reply! I hate you! I hate you so much! You can't believe how much I was wish you were gone! But you keep following me everywhere I go! » Lily continued outraged, grabbing her curls, yelling at him. « I hate you so much! I hate you! » and finally, so soft Peter could barely notice she said something « I hate you so much, it makes me hate myself. »
Peter took a deep breath, reached out for her. Now she didn't back away. Lily let her head rest against his shoulder, defeated and tired. « I still love you and I hate myself for it. I hate myself so bad for it. » She whispered in his chest. Peter didn't respond anything, the darkness diminishing as he held her close.
« I think you should wake up, Lily... » were his final words before Lily opened her eyes and saw the dimmed light of her room. Arthur had fallen asleep next to her, a book still open on his lap. With a tired sigh, she let her head drop back on the pillow.

a messy soul
a reckless mind
and I think it's beautiful the way she carries herself
