Chapter 4

Quickly and quietly, Serafina made her way through the halls. She approached the painting and opened it before sliding down into the walls of Casita. She effortlessly flipped through the air landing in front of her brother's door.

"Hermaña! Long time no see!" Bruno smiled hugging his sister tightly. "As much as I would like to catch up with you hermaño, we have a problem." She started walking into his little room. "It's about our disappearing family members isn't it?" Bruno sat down in his chair. "Always on top of it Bruno." Serafina smiled.

"I've had visions but they all end the same way." Bruno stated. "There's a big battle and the encanto breaks. Am I correct?" Serafina questioned. Bruno nods gravely resting his chin on his hand.

"Do you know who's been taking the kids?" Serafina asked, chuckling at the show that the rats were putting on for her.

"Well," Bruno dragged out the l, pausing for a second watching his sister laugh at the rats, "They weren't really taken. They may or may not be"

"They asked Mirabel for the secret passageway to the secret lake outside the encanto." Serafina deadpanned.

"They asked Mirabel for the secret passageway to the secret lake outside the encanto." Bruno confirmed.

Serafina let out a groan of frustration. "Those damn kids."

"Guess you'll have to ask Mirabel for the location of her secret hiding spot." Bruno shrugged falling back against his chair watching the rats.

"Fine. Thanks brother." Serafina ruffled Bruno's hair before leaving his room.

Bruno waved his hand without looking at her too invested in the story of the telenovela his rats were performing.

Serafina returned to main hall through the painting and dusted herself off leaving no evidence of where she was previously. She then went to Mirabel's room where she was certain her youngest niece was with Antonio since she was the aunt who knew everything and anything. Knocking on the door, she leaned against the doorway until it slowly opened seeing Mirabel's face with a guilty and frightened expression.

"You going to tell me where your sisters and cousins are?"

"Please Tía Serafina. They just want to relax and get away from their responsibilities in the family for a little while."

"Sure. I'll just allow them to run off without letting anyone know where they were going or coming to the village for days and slacking off their responsibilities."

Mirabel sighed knowing she had lost this battle.

"Fine. I'll tell you what you want to know if you can convince my mom to let me have a dog."

"You're telling me Julieta won't let you have a dog but Pepa lets Antonio have a tiger?"

Mirabel nods.

"Alright. I'll have you know I can convince Julieta or Pepa to do anything." Serafina smirked walking out of the room.

"This I have to see." Antonio grabbed Mirabel's hand and followed their aunt who was on a mission.

On their way over, they ran into Agustín and Felix who were cleaning the windows.

"Where are you guys going in such a hurry?" Felix asked curiously.

"Tía Serafina is going to ask mamá if I can get a dog." Mirabel spoke excitedly.

"Oh! This is so exciting!" Agustín smiled throwing his rag at Felix and went after his sister in law.

"Hey! Wait for me!" Felix whined putting the rags down and chasing after them.

Serafina went to her sister's bedroom where she was surely folding the laundry. Peeking in, Julieta was indeed folding the laundry causing Serafina to smirk.

"Watch the master at work." Serafina told the group before waltzing in.

The others looked on intently from the door but staying out of sight so Julieta wouldn't expect anything.

"Juli!" Serafina smiled sweetly hugging her older sister tightly.

Julieta laughed and placed a kiss on her sister's forehead. "What can I do for my baby sister?"

"Can Mirabel please get a dog? Pretty please?" Serafina pouted giving Julieta her famous puppy dog look.

"Of course! Mirabel has been asking for a dog for a while. She'd be very happy." Julieta nodded falling into Serafina's trap.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Serafina smiled peppering kisses on her sister's face making her laugh once more.

"Ok! Ok! I have work to do!" Julieta shook her head smiling and gave her sister and push.

Walking out, she saw everyone staring at her in shock with their jaws hitting the floor.

"Told you." She simply said before walking the other way. "Wait!" Felix stood in front of his sister in law taking her by the shoulders.

Serafina raised an eyebrow in amusement already knowing he wanted her to convince Pepa of something.

"Pepa has had a cloud over her all day. Could you get rid of it please? I've tried everything and it just won't go away." Felix pleaded.

"Easy." Serafina turned towards her other sister's room which was right down the hall on the other side of Abuela's door.

Once they reached the door, everyone could hear the thunder and pouring rain coming from inside.

"Yeesh." Agustín winced feeling bad for his brother in law. "Watch and learn boys." Serafina opened the door to Pepa's room.

"Pepa!" Serafina yelled running into the room and tackling her sister to the bed. Instantly, the cloud disappeared and Pepa was laughing. "What?!?" Felix said in pure shock with his hands on his head.

"Mission accomplished." Serafina said sweetly hugging Pepa. "Oh you!" Pepa smiled holding her sister close. "What's going on in here?" Julieta asked curiously with Abuela next to her.

"Pepa. Your cloud is gone." Abuela said with relief. "Serafina did it." Felix spoke hugging the said woman. "Mirabel. I believe you owe me some information." Serafina stated turning to her niece who looked nervous with the rest of the family around.

"Information?" Abuela questioned. "About the kids who supposedly went to her secret hiding spot." Serafina explained getting gasps from everyone. "It's by the edge of the encanto. The path that leads through the trees." Mirabel informed.

"I got it mamá." Serafina said stepping forward and placing a hand on her mom's shoulder. Abuela nodded knowing how good Serafina was at discipline. "I'll be back with them soon." Serafina reassured her family before walking out of Pepa's room.

She easily found the lake thanks to the wind. Isabela, Luisa, Dolores, and Camilo were laughing with one another swimming or eating on the blanket.

"So, this is where you four ran off to." Serafina spoke making her presence known as all four froze in place. "Tía Serafina. We didn't mean to run off without telling anyone." Isabel said sweetly trying to use her image of perfection and the family's golden child reputation.

"Using sweet words won't work against me little one." Serafina said tracing a flower. "I'm not little." Isabela scoffed. "Oh really? Then why run off like one?" Serafina questioned raising an eyebrow. Isabel ducked her head at her aunt's words.

"I'm disappointed in all of you. I really am. I expected better." Serafina shook her head as Camilo rolled his eyes and scoffed. "Have something to say Camilo?"

"Don't act all high and mighty just because you're older than all of us. In fact, you're not even our parents. You can't scold us like this."

"Actually I can. Your parents chose me to come and get you. They also gave me permission to teach you a lesson about running off like this." Serafina clasped her hands together staring down each child.

Dolores yelped and looked away from her aunt's intimidating stare. Luisa stood nervously and looked down in shame. Isabela and Camilo were the only ones who stood up to their aunt with defying looks.

"Come along." With that, the wind picked all of them up and took them back to Casita who welcomed them all with open arms. "You're back!" Abuela smiled. Dolores and Luisa both ran to their parents who hugged them and gave them lots of love as did Antonio and Mirabel.

Isabela and Camilo were about to run as well only to be stopped by their aunt.

"They're not ready Abuela." Serafina said calmly. The kids were confused as to what their aunt was saying but the adults knew just by those three words.

"I see. Do as you see fit, Valeria." Abuela said turning away.

"Valeria?" Mirabel asked confused as to why her grandma would call her aunt by a different name.

"I think its time you kids learned the truth about your Tía Serafina. It's time you realize what your place in the family really means and what your true powers are for."
