Chapter 2

Mirabel was still in shock of everything that happened. The wind carried her back to the casita per Serafina's command. She was carefully placed down on the grass as the wind swirled around her almost sadly before disappearing once more. Mirabel looked down at her hand to see her Tía's scarf that she always had around her neck and never took off.

Sadly, Mirabel trudged her way up the steps of the casita to see her entire family waiting. "Mirabel!" Julieta took her daughter into her arms and stroked her head comfortingly. "Are you ok sis?" Isabella asked worriedly with Luisa behind her just as worried. Her father placed a hand on her shoulder for comfort.

"What happened? Why are you guys all here?" Mirabel asked between sobs. "The candle flickered as did the doors but Tía Serafina's door went out." Camilo informed. "Speaking of, where is Tía Serafina?" Dolores asked. Abuela and Pepa looked at Mirabel with wide eyes ad did Julieta.

"I think we should give them some space." Agustín suggested steering Isabella and Luisa out of the room. "We should follow them. Come on kids." Felix followed his brother in law with Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio. Once they left the room and the door closed, Abuela approached Mirabel and placed a hand on her cheek. Pepa and Julieta stood at their mother's side.

"What happened to Serafina Mirabel?" Abuela asked. "T-they took her." Mirabel confessed with tears streaming down her cheeks. "Who?" Abuela questioned. "I don't know who they were. They rode horses and had swords. They took her a down the path by the river." Mirabel said. Abuela gasped and stumbled back.

"Mamá?" Julieta gasped as she and Pepa caught their mother and led her to a chair to sit down. "Mirabel. Head up to your room." Julieta spoke. Mirabel made her way up numbly still reeling from the loss of her aunt. "Mamá? Who took Serafina?" Julieta asked as her voice cracked. Pepa stayed silent, distraught over the loss of her baby sister.

"The soldiers who took your father away from us." Abuela finally spoke up after a few minutes of silence. Tears spilled down Pepa's cheeks as she turned to Julieta for comfort. "Will she be okay?" Julieta cried holding Pepa close to her. "Serafina is the only one who was both offensive and defensive powers in the family. I have no doubt that she can defend herself." Abuela reassured her daughters.

"But we can't go rescue her?" Pepa asked. Abuela shook her head. "Sera was the only one who could go over the mountains. She never should've left to take Mirabel." Abuela cursed quietly under her breath. "It's not Mirabel's fault. Serafina wanted to take her out." Julieta spoke up to defend her daughter who was just as distraught as they are.

"Maybe there is a way to rescue Tía Sera." Mirabel spoke quietly from the stairs. The three ladies looked up in surprise. "And how will we do that?" Pepa asked. "We could ask the wind to help us over the mountains." Julieta looked at her mother who looked deep in thought. "Only Serafina was able to talk to the wind and command it." Abuela said.

"Besides, we all can't go. The village needs us." Pepa said. "I could go." Mirabel offered. "Oh no you're not." Julieta said. "Mamá please! Tía Sera needs me!" Mirabel pleaded.

It was decided that if Mirabel could get the wind to help her she would be able to go. Mirabel had all of her supplies packed in a bag and stood outside on the lawn with her whole family watching. "This I gotta see." Camilo rubbed his hands together earning a smack on the back of the head from his father.

"You can do this. For Tía Sera." Mirabel said to herself as her family watched with bated breath. "Viento. Ayúdame a encontrar a Tía Serafina." Mirabel spoke loudly as commanding as her aunt would've been. At first nothing happened as everyone let out a sigh. Suddenly, Mirabel was swept off her feet and into the sky.

"Don't worry Mamá, Tía Pepa, and Abuela! I'll bring Tía Serafina home!" Mirabel shouted waving goodbye to her family who waved back sending her love and well wishes.

It took Mirabel about a week to find where Tía Serafina was hidden away. It was in another town far from the encanto and Abuela's old village. Well, it wasn't really a town but a very, very big city. Mirabel had never seen anything like it but she stayed quiet to not raise any suspicion. She entered a big building with large stone walls and men with swords standing everywhere.

She went up to the largest tower where she found her aunt laying on the floor. "Tía! Are you ok?"  Mirabel whispered rushing to her aunt's side. "Mirabel? Is it really you?" Serafina asked weakly not fully believing what she was seeing. "Sí Tía. It's me." Mirabel cupped her cheek before taking note of the injures her aunt had.

"We need to get you home. Mamá can heal you." Mirabel said helping her aunt sit up. "Ve a ver a la bruja." A voice echoed through the staircase outside the door. "Tía. We have to go." Mirabel spoke urgently helping her aunt stand up. "Viento. Llévanos a casa." Serafina commanded. The wind instantly burst through the window and lifted them up taking them away.

"La bruja se ha ido!" "Encuéntrala! No podemos dejarla escapar." Mirabel heard the yells of the men in the building. Mirabel took her aunt's hand and held it tightly. "Thank you Mirabel." Serafina smiled at her niece who hugged her tightly. The wind let out a small whistle as leaves flew around Serafina making her laugh. "Gracias tambien viento." Serafina said. The wind let out a tinkling laugh.

Camilo sat outside watching the skies as it was his turn on watch that he's been avoiding for so long. He groaned out of boredom and was about to head back inside when he looked up and saw Mirabel with Tía Serafina. His eyes widened as he ran back inside. "She's back! Mirabel is back! Tía Serafina is with her! She did it!" Camilo announced. Pepa and Julieta were the first ones out scanning the skies.

Mirabel landed first and carefully helped her aunt down who fell against her. Pepa and Julieta rushed to embrace their baby sister, their eyes filling with tears of joy. "Seranita. You're ok." Pepa cried burying her face into her younger sister's neck. Julieta smiled with tears of joy and kissed Serafina's forehead. It was then that she noticed the wounds.

"I'll go start making food!" Julieta rushed inside leaving Pepa to hold her sister. "Come hermañita. Let's get you to your room." Pepa led her younger sister into the house with her entire family trailing behind them.

A week had passed with Serafina cooped up in her room recovering under the care of Julieta and Pepa. The two sisters took turns watching over her while also giving Serafina some time to herself. Serafina was currently laying in her bed reading one of her books when Mirabel hesitantly opened the door and peeked her head in.

Her heart hurt seeing her aunt bedridden but the bright smile she received from Serafina somehow lifted her spirits. "Mirabel. Come in!" Serafina saved her page and placed her book down motioning for her niece to come closer. Mirabel quickly ran in jumping on the bed avoiding her aunt as to not injure her or cause her pain.

"How are you doing Tía?" Mirabel asked lightly fluffing her aunt's pillows. "Doing well as I can be under your mother's care." Serafina shot Mirabel a knowing look earning a giggle from the young girl. "So you're all healed." Mirabel says leaning back against the pillow next to her aunt. "Of course. Anyways, what adventures have you been on while I was stuck here?" Serafina turned over resting on her elbow looking at Mirabel.

"Well I've been investigating the candle and why it flickered." Mirabel started getting a nod from her aunt who was listening intently. "Speaking of I have a question to ask of you." She looked up at her aunt who got out of bed to get a cookie from the plate on the dresser that Julieta left a few hours ago. "And what is this question?" Serafina said cleaning the crumbs off the surface of her dresser.

"It's about Tío Bruno-" Mirabel stopped noticing the cookie that broke in her aunt's hand and fell to the floor. "Tía-" She was cut off by her aunt. "We don't talk about Bruno." Her aunt snapped surprising Mirabel as she's never heard her aunt ever get upset. "I know but-" Mirabel started once more as her aunt whirled around with angry tears coming down her cheeks.

"No hablas de Bruno!" Serafina yelled, the wind picking up at a frightening pace whirling around the room. The door burst open as Pepa and Julieta both ran into the room seeing their sister visibly distraught. "Serafina. Calm yourself!" Julieta scolded while Pepa crossed her arms. The wind slowly died down as the anger left Serafina leaving only sadness.

"Sera?" Pepa asked softly. Julieta reached out wanting to comfort her baby sister. "No hablas de Bruno." Serafina whispered softly walking towards her bed and sat down on it. Julieta pulled her daughter aside while Pepa went to her sister's side. "What did you say to her?" Julieta asked Mirabel who wrung her hands together nervously. "I asked her about Tío Bruno mamá. I didn't mean to upset her." Mirabel confessed.

Julieta sighed. "I know mija. Bruno's disappearance hit Serafina the hardest since they were so close to each other. Pepa and I will deal with Serafina. Please just go to your room and don't bring up Bruno, ok?" Julieta said getting a nod from Mirabel. Mirabel received a kiss on the cheek by her mother before leaving.

Mirabel started walking to her room only to be stopped by Camilo. "Hey! Have you seen Dolores?" He asked worriedly. Mirabel shook her head. "No. Why? Dolores rarely leaves the house." She said getting a distressed sigh from Camilo. "Exactly. Luisa said she saw Dolores leaving this morning but she never returned." Camilo said.

Mirabel let out a gasp. "We have to find her. Now."
