Prologue
Ten-year old Elizabeth...
While on her bike on her way to the market, an old woman was struggling on carrying her bags where vegetables and fruits are kept. As oranges and melons started to fall from the bag, Elizabeth panicked internally for the old lady and thought hard and said, "wag kang mahuhulog!"
Surprisingly, the pieces of oranges and melons returned effortlessly to their bags making it less difficult for the old woman to pick them up. Elizabeth sighed in relief and continued to pedal her way to the bicycle parking area of the market.
Fourteen-year old Elizabeth...
Bored and hungry inside their classroom as they waited for their teacher, she suddenly craved for something to satisfy her stomach. She imagined having her favorite fries dipped in catsup, she sighed.
Out of nowhere, at the edge of her table, lies the exact same thing she has been thinking of. She blinked.
"H-how.. Paanong nagkafries dito?" She stared at it in disbelief. She roamed her eyes and thankfully, no one in their classroom noticed it. She immediately placed the food in between her arms and a little closer to her as she discretely ate the fries.
Seventeen-year old Elizabeth began to question the weird things happening around her as she grew up.
One time when she was alone in her room, she focused her gaze on the piece of cloth that was lying on top of the television. Her aim was to have the top of it cleaned but she was too lazy to do it herself.
So, she wanted to see for herself if she was only imagining things that have been occurring since the day she became aware of her capabilities.
"Come on, hanky-panky. Move." She whispered as she stared at it.
It didn't budge.
She sighed and exhaled. She willed herself to have one more try.
"At the count of three, I dare you to move to the top of the tv." She ordered with conviction.
"One..."
"Two..."
"Move!" She said in a much louder voice and it did move quickly.
She gasped in shock.
Since the time she has discovered her skill, she uses it discretely and when her parents are around, she acted as if nothing special is going on with her.
Until one time, she heard her parents talk inside their bedroom and she happened to pass by them.
"Do you think she has developed her powers?" Her mom, Louisiana, asked her husband.
"I think so. I got mine when I was around nine. Or ten, I think?" Her dad, Flaviano, said. "Why, hon?"
"I'm just worried. She hasn't even asked us about it." She ranted but her husband consoled her.
"Our daughter is a smart one. I'm sure, by this time, she has found out about it. Pasa-saan ba at lalapit rin siya sa atin." He said and Elizabeth's heart softened at her father's words.
"I'm sure that she's using her powers in a good way. Sana, hindi niya lang abusuhin, because it wouldn't do her any good."
"But what if, they found out about he–" Her wife continued to worry but he shut her off.
"Relax. I'll talk to our daughter about them, this weekend. She has to know that we cannot be traced by them." Her dad said assuring her mom.
Elizabeth's eyes widened and she muffled her gasp.
A-ano ang dapat kong malaman? S-sino sila? She thought and decided to tell her parents about her discovered powers by weekend.
Weekend came and they were ready to approach each other but her parents had to attend to something outside their household.
Night came but they still haven't returned.
Until, a woman in her late thirties knocked on their door.
"It's about time, Elspeth." She said and her forehead creased with confusion.
"Mali ho ata kayo ng bahay. Pasensya na po." Elizabeth was about to close her door but it wouldn't move.
"I'm your Tita Tamara. Or Tita Tammy. Your mom's sister. They won't be coming home." She said and she became even more confused.
"A-ano ho? Nagbibiro lang ho kayo, hindi ba?" She laughed trying to hide her worry and nervousness.
Suddenly, police came to their house asking for her.
"I'm sorry but are you Louisiana and Flaviano's daughter?" One of the cops asked and she nodded. "They had an accident. And both are dead on arrival at the hospital."
Elizabeth's whole world crash at the words of the cop.
She have no one now.
Except for her Tita Tammy.
Or so she thought.
