Song: Enemy x The Weekend
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
We haven't even finished playing the game. It stopped when Medio Terrae showed up in my life. Could he have played a part on my father's death? I shook my head refusing to believe it. I refused to believe that the Daemon I now know would be capable of hurting me like this.
Perhaps he did.
And I was a fool to love him.
My newfound feelings for him at the same time as my father's death took so much energy from me. It confused me. What should I do if the man I love killed my father?
After learning of my father's death, I haven't heard nor seen him for a week. As my mother and I prepared for my father's funeral, I searched for Daemon. I used the rune he taught me to find him, but he never came. Each day that he never came to see me confirmed my worst assumption that he had something to do with my father's death.
My friends tried to console me but it was no use. I felt so alone, and empty. Angelo stayed by my side during this trying time in hopes to win me over once more. But all I yearned to be by my side was Daemon.
I applied a little bit of makeup and straightened the bottom of my black dress. My father's funeral begins in half an hour. Tempted to shed another tear once more, I dabbed more concealer under my eyes.
Brittany, Ted, and Daniel waited for me outside the living room of the apartment I originally lived in. Each corner of the house glowed with an ancient letter to protect us from Medio Terrae. The safe house that Daemon and Angelo made for me was no longer safe. Angelo escorted my mother, my friends, and I to the apartment creating a stronger protection rune than ever before.
I stared into the exhaustion that coated my friends' eyes. We've been through this before with Summer. I've lost two people that I loved. I'm afraid that if I loved anyone once again, I'd lose them.
Linking our hands together, my friends and I walked to Angelo's car for my father's funeral. Once we arrived, there was only a few people that showed up to the funeral which I was grateful for because they were close friends of my parents.
The only visitors that stood out from the small crowd were five teenagers that were about my age. They stuck out like a sore thumb by wearing their long black trench coats and the dark ink of the tattoos that crept up their pale necks.
They were looking at me with intensity that I don't know whether to see it as a murderous stare or a look of urgency. As the funeral came to a close and my father was buried six feet under, the teens made their way towards me and my friends.
Angelo stood in front of me in a protective stance, his hands glowing softly as a warning to these strangers.
One of the teenagers with heavily spiked hair and gauges seemed to be the leader of the group raised both his hands up in surrender. "Whoa, we mean no harm." he began his eyes widening in fear. The palms of his hands were tattooed with a six pointed star.
"You're from Medio Terrae, why should we believe you?" Angelo challenged them.
"We're only here to talk to Celeste...alone." the boy said gravely. I was surprised. Why would they want to talk to me? I scanned the other teenagers behind this strange boy. All of them had a look of urgency and it seemed as if they wanted to blurt out very information if it weren't for the leader that prevented them from doing so.
I looked at Angelo. His jaw tightened by the boy's simple request. I placed my hand on his stiff arm before looking to my friends.
"I want to hear what they have to say." I told them. "I'll be okay." I assured Angelo.
All of them still looked unsure as they gave me and the strange group a good amount of distance to talk. Whatever these group of people had to say must be important if they were brave enough to visit the funeral knowing that Angelo or Daemon would be with me.
"Hello, Celeste. I'm Ethan, your cousin." the boy with the spikes introduced himself. "I'm sorry for your loss." he added, giving me a sad glance.
The other people behind him, the two girls and the two other boys introduced themselves as my cousins and gave their condolences as well.
"We're here to warn you." Amanda, the girl with the blonde hair whispered. "about Angelo and the prophecy about the forbidden fruit."
I took a step back surprised. Why would they want to warn me about Angelo? They should be the one warning me about Daemon since he decided to cut off our grandmother's ear.
I was about to say something before Ethan interrupted me again.
"We don't have much time." he said. "Your birthday is tomorrow correct?"
I froze. Of course it was, how could I have forgotten the most important day that would decide my fate between two men?
Nodding, my fist closed trying to hide that this fact scared me.
"There's a reason why your father asked for Daemon's help instead of Angelo." Amanda said.
"It's because he can't be trusted." Ethan added.
Before they could continue, I stopped them. "I don't believe you. Angelo has proven to me over and over again that he can be trusted. He saved my life multiple times —"
"You mean Daemon saved your life multiple times." Amanda interjected softly.
Awkward silence resonated from our group. Hearing Daemon's name brought some of the feelings that I've suppressed whenever I was with him. I don't want to believe that I can't trust my own friend. He only lied to me about being an angel and his intentions in being close to me but that's about it.
"Angelo protected me even before Daemon showed up in my life." I told them, defending him.
I was surprised that I'm defending Angelo. Maybe I just wanted to keep him in my life regardless of the things he might have done because I was so tired of losing more people in my life.
"That may be so," Ethan said, "I guess he hasn't caused harm to anyone yet or else he would become a demon once again."
"Exactly, he only returns to some of his demonic tendencies when he's in the lower levels of the Nether Realm." I informed them rubbing my arms. Amanda and Ethan looked at each other worriedly. The sun hid behind the clouds it was windy. It reminded me of the chill I felt whenever Daemon was close.
"We're just watching out for you, Celeste." Amanda said.
My head snapped towards her. "Why would you? Medio Terrae has done nothing but cause grief in my family. I now know the reason why my father left this cult so I can have a better life."
"That is what we're trying to do." Ethan said. "We want to leave Medio Terrae and have a normal life." he looked down quietly.
"Is it wrong to help another family member before we go?"
I kept my mouth shut, guilt creating a knot in my throat. Amanda sighed before handing me a piece of paper, yellowed from age.
"What is this?" I asked her.
"It's the last page of the book Fructus Nuptialis. There's more to the prophecy." she replied.
"Where did you get this? I have the entire book and there wasn't a missing page that I've seen." I said suspiciously.
"Just read it." Ethan said annoyed with my questions.
I rolled my eyes. As I began to read, my hand clapped over my mouth to hide the scream that threatened to spill from my lips.
