Song: Relax My Beloved x Alex Clare

"She was looking at him as if he'd just dropped fully formed from the sky."

― Julia Quinn, An Offer From a Gentleman

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"It was too good to be true." I said as my mind calculated the events that occurred in the game. Next to me, the clock read, 3:00 am and all of us were wide awake. Seeing my father's soul in Chinvat confirmed my worst fears; Daemon would do anything to have me surrender.

"This game was too easy compared to...the last one we had." I choked near the end of my sentence when I remembered Summer's death vividly.

Brittany sighed and sat on the worn out couch in my apartment. "It's because Ted's fear was an irrational fear. It was only applied to him, unlike mine and Daniel's it affected all of you guys."

"Hey! My fear was really scary!" Ted interjected.

"Of course, Teddy Bear. Whatever you say." Brittany replied sarcastically.

"Guys! Be quiet, Celeste's Mom is sleeping." Daniel said.

Ignoring the fight that was about to ensue between Brittany and Ted, I looked at Angelo who was sitting on the floor cross legged with his eyes closed.

Sliding next to him and resting my head on his shoulder, I asked him, "How are you feeling?"

"I feel much better." He replied, giving me a small smile as he pulled me closer to his embrace.

Brittany and Ted stopped arguing and began to raid the fridge for food with Daniel leaving me and Angelo alone.

"I wish I'm already 18, so I can heal you whenever you feel in pain." I murmured.

"Whenever I hold you in my arms and knowing that you and I are together is enough to heal me with whatever pain I'll have. You're my strength and my weakness." He admitted.

I blushed at his words and my heart raced when he kissed my forehead lightly. I sighed before asking him,"Do you agree that the recent game was too easy compared to the previous ones we had?"

"I do," he said.

"It's almost over at least." I told him.

"Do you think that once I win the game for all of us, he'd keep his word?"

Angelo stiffened. "It's...highly unlikely that he would. My brother would always find a way to win."

"Then what do I do? How do I win the game so we can be free?" Although the recent game was short and easy, I was still exhausted. The stress and anxiety of whether or not we'll win weighed itself on my body. I remembered that I have school in a few hours causing me to curse to myself.

"We'll find a way before that happens." Angelo assured me.

I doubted that we would have enough time to create a plan. "How? The next game could be later tonight."

"Trust me, Celeste." Angelo implored. "I will find a way."

His answer didn't remove the doubt that settled in my stomach.

"We should go to bed." I suggested, thinking that my doubt was caused by the lack of sleep I had recently.

"I think our friends are already ahead of us on that." Angelo chuckled.

I guessed I was too busy talking to Angelo that I didn't realize that Brittany was curled up on the couch sleeping while Ted and Daniel slept on the carpeted floor with their heads propped by skinny pillows with open bags of chips littered next to them.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I woke up around 6am to make breakfast for my friends that stayed over and for my Mom that was still sleeping. I had a total of three hours of sleep and I knew I would struggle staying awake in class.

After breakfast, Brittany, Daniel, and Ted went home to get ready for school. Angelo stayed and showered at my apartment since he had extra clothes in his car and he wanted to drive me to school.

I showered quickly, applied minimal makeup, and prepared my bag for school and work before meeting Angelo outside my apartment.

I hopped in his car and braced myself for the upcoming day regardless of the tough night I had experienced. Instead of thinking about my father's soul in Chinvat, Daemon, and the Nether Realm, I focused on the view that passed by as Angelo drove me to school.

To think that I was too busy to appreciate nature and my life here on Earth was an understatement. The sky was bluer and the colors of the leaves of the palm trees that swayed was more vivid. I realized that if I lose to Daemon, I would no longer feel the heat of the sun on my skin or how the wind caressed my skin. It broke my heart when I also realized that I would no longer see Angelo, my family, or my friends again if I lost the game.

My thoughts were interrupted by Angelo's immediate stop. The seat belt prevented me from hitting the dashboard although I know it would leave a bruise on my stomach later.

I was going to ask Angelo why he stopped when I saw five muscular men stand in front of us with scythes on their sides. They wore masks that hid their identity except for their cold eyes that penetrated through my soul. They were the same men I saw when Angelo took me home from work that one night. A tap on the passenger's window caused me to yelp in fear.

There were more of the men with scythes. The one who tapped at the window held a gun and motioned for us to get out of the car.

Angelo and I stepped out of the car with our hands over our heads.

"Who are you?" I asked them.

"No questions. Just come with us." the taller of the men which I assumed was the leader of the group said.

I scanned my surroundings and realized that Angelo and I were in the bad side of the neighborhood I lived in. Asking for help in this area was out of the question because I knew that no one would help us.

The men gripped the sides of my shoulders tightly and proceeded to take me to a black tinted van parked on the side of the street. I screamed, kicked, and flailed wildly, hoping to be free from their grasps.

"Angelo!!!" I screamed, fear taking over me.

"Kill the angel!" the leader of the group commanded his minions.

"No!!!" I continued to scream as the men who held me forced my hands to clasp behind my back and tying them together.

The men with scythe charged at Angelo ready to hurt him. He avoided their strikes by jumping on the roof of his car as his wings unfurled behind him. Angelo exploded into a bright light before he transformed to his true form.

Gone were the plain t-shirt and jeans he wore. Instead, Angelo wore a white helmet and suit with a sword clasped tightly on his right hand.

"You're not taking her." he told the men.

He charged at them, his strong ivory wings flapping behind him as he hit the men with his elbow and shoulder causing them to topple and fall.

Angelo successfully defeated them all without hurting them. He turned to where I was held captive by the group's other minions and flew towards me if it weren't for one of the men pulling me closer to him and sticking a dagger close to my neck.

"Come even closer and she'll die." The man behind me hissed.

Angelo landed on the ground with a loud thud and stayed where he was. I was scared but I didn't want to give the man behind me more power from my fear.

Looking back at Angelo, his face was pained from seeing me like this and he was about to take a step closer towards me before the dagger close to my neck pierced my skin drawing blood. The man continued to push the tip of the dagger deeper into my neck.

"Ahhh!!!" I screamed loudly.

The man stopped and pulled the dagger away and continued to taunt Angelo.

"Drop your sword." he said. "Or your precious fruit will no longer serve its purpose to Heaven."

Angelo followed the man's orders and threw his sword down as it skidded towards the man holding me captive.

"It must be tough being an Angel, eh?" the man teased. I felt his putrid breath against my ear. "You can't kill a human being."

"But I can." A familiar silvery voice said behind me.

The man released his grip on me and pushed me aside. My head hit the hard pavement and all I could hear were the screams and the loud thuds of falling bodies of the men who were about to kill me and Angelo. The men's screams continued for a few minutes before silence fell all around me.

I attempted to open my heavy lids but failed. Slow footsteps padded close to me and I rolled to my side to try and see who it was. Strong hands lifted my body from the ground and brought me closer to their chest. Once my eyes fluttered open once again, his chilled blue eyes and irritatingly beautiful smile came into view.

"Celeste." Daemon murmured softly before his lips crashed into mine.
