It's hard to concentrate when people lie. I know Anthony said we were in McDonald's but I know we're in Burger King. It's not that I hate the food, I prefer it at times.
"Don't you like the food?"
"Yeah, just thinking."
"What about?"
"The meeting. I didn't tell you everything."
"What?"
"Well at the end, Chris came up to me....and asked if I wanted to go to lunch—tomorrow."
There's silence.
"So, what did you say back?"
"I said yes."
He whistles, "Little Sebby is almost a man."
"I am a man."
"Yeah, but not a full man."
"Shut up."
"I'm joking Seb."
"What ever. Can you come with me to the place? Sit at a table nearby?"
"Yeah, I'm free."
"By the way, I have a question.
"Shoot."
"Where are your wife and kids?"
"At her parents."
"Why didn't you go?"
"Her parents don't like me."
It's quiet, but then again it's like seven—eight at night on a Tuesday.
"You know," I say, "I can smell and taste the differences in food right?"
"Yeah, why?"
"You said we were at McDonald's...we're in Burger King."
