Three

For the rest of the day, all Kevin could think about was 'What did Conner want to talk about?' Now he was finally about to find out. He told Grantaire he had to stay late in physics class and that Heather had to drive him to her house. Kevin made his way into the gym where they were meeting and saw Connor sitting on the bleachers so he walked over and sat next to him.

"Hey." Kevin Started.

"Hey."

"How are you?"

"Good. How are you?" Kevin was nervous, he hadn't spoken to Connor in a while. He was scared he would say something stupid, something that would ruin anything chances of them being together again or even friends.

"Good." Kevin lied.

"How's Grantaire doing?"

"I don't really know, he's having a hard time with friends. By that I mean me, Heather, and Cosette are currently his only friends. Who wants to be best friends with your brother?"

"I'm sure he'll get other friends. He's a junior right?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Danny has a younger brother who's a junior, maybe they should meet," Connor suggested.

"If he's anything like Danny I'm sure Grantaire would hate him."

"He's the complete opposite actually. They hate each other."

"Good." Kevin scoffed.

"So you hate Danny, but not me? It's not his fault."

"Can we please not bring it up?"

"I don't see why we can't."

"I hate Danny because he manipulated you into doing it."

"But you broke up with me!"

"Yeah, Connor! Because you cheated! That shit hurts! And you know what? You stayed with him. You fucking stayed with him! So yeah, I do hate Danny. I hated Danny before you even slept with him and you knew that. He's toxic, Connor. He doesn't care about you. He's probably cheating on you as we speak." They were both holding back tears. Connor didn't know what to say next, this isn't why he invited Kevin to talk. He wanted to make up, but they were fighting again, just like last year.

"I'm sorry... I didn't bring you here to bring all that up again."

"Why am I here?"

"I hate not being friends with you, not being able to talk with you. Whenever something exciting happens I always think 'wow, I should tell Kevin.' But I can't and I really miss that. Can we please have that again?"

"I also want that again, but what about Danny?"

"He can get over it."

"That's a bit bold coming from you."

"I'm serious, Kevin." Kevin thought for a second. He really missed Connor but Danny would probably kill him if he found out they were friends again. In the end, Kevin didn't care, Connor meant everything to him and he would do anything to get back to where they were.

"I don't see why we can't be friends again."

"Really?" Connor said with hope in his voice. Kevin nodded and Connor engulfed him in a hug. "I assume you have Heather and Cosette to go back to. Don't want to keep them waiting."

"Yeah." Kevin stood up to leave but paused. "Thank you for putting that note in my locker."

"Of course. See you around."

"See you." Kevin then left the gym and texted Grantaire saying he was leaving school and on his way to Heather's.

He got in his car and zoned out the whole ride there. When he got to Heather's house had hadn't even realized he was driving. He got out of his car and just walked in knowing it was unlocked and everyone was there.

"You're finally here," Cosette said. "What did Mr. Davis have you stay back for?"

"Nothing much, I just did pretty bad on my last test." Kevin lied.

"You got Mr. Davis as your physics teacher? How do you even pay attention in class? He's so hot." Grantaire stated. "... no homo."

"Hence why I failed." Kevin didn't actually think his physics teacher was that attractive, nor did he fail his test. Kevin looked around for Heather but couldn't find her. "Where's Heather?"

"Upstairs cleaning the guest room for Marin. She refused to let us help." Cosette said while shuffling cards for skip-o. Kevin walked upstairs into the guest room and found her dusting the blinds.

"Heather... why are you doing this?"

"I'm not going to let my brother sleep in a dirty room no matter how much I hate him."

"Why can't they get a hotel?"

"Wow, Whizzer never talks to you huh." She stopped what she was doing and turned to Kevin. "They spent all their money on plane tickets and can't afford a hotel. As much as I hate them I felt bad so I said they could stay here."

"Whizzer can stay at my apartment so you don't have to worry about all three of them."

"You know what's really sad? Marvin's probably coming to see mom and dad, and they're never here."

"Well if it makes you feel better, Whizzer's definitely not coming to see our parents."

"That's probably why Whizzer hasn't told you anything. He probably thinks you're still living with them." Heather realized. Kevin's parents were Mormon and hated on Whizzer when he came out. Kevin stayed in the closet as long as he could but the church found out he and Connor were dating. Connor's family was also Mormon. Kevin was hated on by the church and his family too, just like Whizzer, so he saved up, and as soon as he was 18 he bought an apartment and took Grantaire with him.

"Please relax on the cleaning and the freaking out, we have a while until they get here."

"Alright."

"Do you want to play skip-o?"

"Is that even a question?"
