The match seemed to go by in the blink of an eye.
If either one of the players of the opposing team were being honest, they couldn't quite get the hang of Kimiko and her way to play.
Their current score was 17-10 for team Kimiko. It was crazily scary how accurate her predictions were.
Just as Ennoshita was about to jump for a block, Kashiya beside him held onto his shirt and muttered "Stay down."
Confused he nodded and staid down as she had said. That was when he noticed that Hinata was once again a decoy and that Asahi was the actual spiker that Kageyama was about to toss to.
Quickly Ennoshita, Tsukishima and Kimiko went to the right and jumped to Kimiko's counting, blocking the ball successfully.
18-10
The game went on until Kimiko and her team won.
The moment Kimiko left the court to go grab a water bottle Kiyoko held out for her something happened, it seemed like the air around her changed. Like she was back to her old self. Like nothing happened.
Ukai called the boys together so that they could gather around in a circle and discuss the things that went wrong and what they did well. All the while Kimiko remained silent, looking spaced off.
"Why didn't you tell us you're the Empress?", Tanaka finally spoke up, pulling the younger Azumane out of her thoughts.
The brunette looked up, meeting the gazes of almost the entire team, before replying quietly "I didn't think it to be that important until now."
Asahi caught the slight wavering in her voice. He knew she hated situations like these when strangers would put her under pressure. It was a fifty fifty chance whether she would burst or break.
Burst - give the people a piece of her mind.
Break - become the anxious ball she usually was and most likely run away from the situation.
And knowing his sister, his bet was on the latter option.
"So chibi-chan can play volleyball and she can jump. If that's what makes out the so called Empress, I'm not impressed," Tsukishima tuned in, brows furrowed and a slightly condescending smirk on his lips.
If he wanted to challenge Kimiko, he chose the wrong moment.
Asahi already raised his hands, wanting to shush the blond middle blocker from saying anything more, but Kimiko beat him to it "Your height doesn't determine how talented you are. And your height does certainly not give you the right to look down on me or others smaller than you."
"I'm not just talking about height here. A little ordering around doesn't make you any different from our beloved King of the Court," Tsukishima shot back, now glaring down at the girl.
"Hey...", Asahi and Sugawara both tried to go between the duo that was slowly approaching each other, trying to part them before they'd rip each other's throats out.
"I am no dictator, Tsukishima. If you didn't notice, I tried to pull something out of all of you on my side, be grateful that I didn't try to break your hand with a spike of mine," Kimiko hissed, now standing directly in front of the tall middle blocker.
"Oh wow, thank you oh mighty Empress for not breaking my hand. I'll forever be in your fault."
Before anyone could even say something, Kimiko had grabbed Tsukishima by the collar and yanked him down to her height, the taller obviously surprised by the amount of strength she possessed.
"I suggest you shut up and learn your place," she hissed, an evil glint in her eyes as she glared at the blond male, before she let go and turned to leave the gym, needing to clear her head.
Asahi was quick to follow, while Sugawara smacked Tsukishima in the back of the head with the words "Great job, dimwit."
The rest of the team stood there dumbstruck, still trying to process what had just happened.
A few moments later they slowly picked up their conversations again, before the doors to the gym opened again and Kimiko returned with her older brother in tow.
She sent a short questioning glance towards Ukai, who just held his hands out as if to say "Go ahead," before she turned to look at the group and said "Tsukishima, Hinata, you two come with me. Suga-san, could you give me some tosses?"
The third year setter nodded and immediately followed her to the court, Hinata close on her heels with an excited glimmer in his eyes and Tsukishima being the last. A snark remark already laid at the tip of his tongue, but Sugawara had scolded him and said he should keep his remarks to himself for now.
"You two need to work on your blocks. Your timing is off and your postures need work. Timing is the key to a perfect block," Kimiko said and before Tsukishima could stop himself, like it's some sort of natural reaction, he retorted "As if we didn't know that already."
"Shut up flag pole. While I'm talking you're in timeout, got it?", Kimiko snapped, sending a glare at the blond. Hinata beside him felt a shiver run down his spine, obviously frightened of the girl at the moment.
"Try and block my spikes," she instructed them, before heading to the other half of the court and turning towards Sugawara, before she tossed the ball to him and ran.
Sugawara's toss felt perfect against her palm and Kimiko actually thought that Tsukishima and Hinata would try to block her, but was quickly disappointed when Hinata's timing was off and Tsukishima, while having the correct timing, pulled his arms out of the way.
"You stupid flag pole, why did you rip your arms out of the way?", Kimiko immediately yelled at him the moment she stood on the ground again.
Tsukishima only turned his head away as he scowled, muttering a "My arms would have snapped off," under his breath.
"Oi, you already manage to block my brother who can hit just as hard as me and you're trying to tell me your arms are gonna snap off because of my spike? I'll show you your arms snapping off!", Kimiko yelled, ready to go at Tsukishima, if Sugawara hadn't gotten into the way and put his hands on her shoulders to calm her down.
The rest of the team was watching this dispute with either disbelief or humor, Tanaka turning to Asahi and asking "Are you sure that she's your sister?"
Asahi chuckled nervously and rubbed the back of his neck, smiling awkwardly as he said "Well, that's just how she is when she really gets into volleyball, otherwise we're practically clones."
The boys laughed at his words, Nishinoya calling it "Cute," when the smack of a ball against skin was heard and followed by a loud "ACK!"
Turning their attention to the source, they found that Hinata had blocked Kimiko's spike, but not with his arms.
He blocked it with his face.
In the blink of an eye Kimiko became her normal self, a glass-hearted young girl with panic written all over her face as she shrieked "H-HINATA, OH GOD ARE YOU ARE YOU OKAY?"
Quickly the team gathered around the ginger on the floor and the girl kneeling beside him, looking close to tears. She was bowing repeatedly, shouting her apologies to the boy who seemed a little flustered by her sudden change in demeanor.
Tanaka and Nishinoya looked at each other with a grin as they said in unison "Definitely siblings."
It took Asahi and Hinata a few minutes to calm down the hysteric girl who just couldn't stop apologizing over and over again.
When she had finally calmed down, she apologized to the team, before rushing out to head to the changing rooms. Clearly, that was the end of her presence during practice today.
Once Kimiko reached the changing room she quickly closed the door and pressed her back against it, taking a deep breath and trying to relax her racing heart.
It's been almost two years since that day that changed her life. Getting back into the sport she used to live for was hard, especially since she couldn't play herself.
Kimiko heaved a deep sigh as she approached her locker and grabbed her stuff, quickly pulling on her tracksuit and stuffing her school uniform into her bag, not feeling like changing into it.
After this she just wanted to go home, take her pain killers and go to bed.
And stay there until her brother would drag her out to get her back to school for another day of torment.
