TWO YEARS LATER

"Did you hear?" asks May. She used to be Concubine May, but we just call her May now. The nunnery has been good for her. She may not be as pretty as before, but she's tougher and nicer now.

"What?" asks Li Min, another previous concubine. She's busy applying cucumbers to her face, hoping it helps her complexion.

"Gaozong's going to marry Wu Ze Tian. She's going to be his first concubine. They announced the engagement like, yesterday. When I went to the market to buy the soap for everyone, I heard people talking about it. It's no surprise it took one day to reach us, since this nunnery is in the countryside and all..."

I'm frozen with horror. It'd be a big mistake to marry Wu Ze Tian! Gaozong must be blind!

"Wang Min!" says May, waving a hand under my face. "Were you listening?"

"Sorry, what?"

"They're inviting you! Because you're his mother!"

I gasp. "But...I'm so not pretty anymore."

"You never were," says May darkly, then we laugh.

"I don't want to go," I say to them, feeling sick already. "I hate that woman."

It's safe to say such things here. For one, we've been banished to the countryside nunnery. No one is spying on us anymore. Also, we all hate her. We have a common enemy.

Unfortunately, two days later, I'm on a carriage that leads me to the palace. For the party, where they're announcing his future Empress and first Concubine. Obviously, Wu Ze Tian will find a way to get rid of the Empress and replace her.

When I arrive, there are red and gold banners everywhere. Music is playing and there are tables and tables of people sitting in the great palace hall drinking wine.

Wu Ze Tian is sitting in the middle of the room, holding a porcelain cup and talking to Gaozong. He looks older and more masculine. I can see many girls looking at him.

She turns and smirks at me. "Oh, you're here."

"Mother, welcome," Gaozong says. He doesn't rush to hug me like before. He just inclines his head slightly downwards. The others do the same. No bowing to me, because I'm old and not important anymore.

"Your poor hair," Wu Ze Tian says sympathetically.

"Shut up!" I scream.

The hall falls silent. You know what? I don't care anymore. Even if I get killed today, it'll be worth it. I've lived so many years in misery at this stinking hellhole of a palace. I don't care. I'll make my last day here worth it.

I advance slowly to her, then sweep the wine glass onto her clothes and hair. Gaozong gasps. "You just want to rule China. And you'll destroy anyone and everyone to achieve that goal, right? You're a despicable person, and I'm sorry I ever was your friend. You tricked me into killing Gao Ling. You killed Lady Lin. You killed my daughter! Gaozong, did you know you had a sister? You've destroyed countless people I care about, just because I was the only one who ever saw through your schemes! I've kept quiet for years because I still believed that there was some good in you. I see I was wrong. You're a terrible person, inside and out."

When I'm done, there's a shocked silence. I see Liang Min there too, his hands to his mouth. All eyes are on me. And the Empress. I finally realise it for myself, then and there. Liang Min loved Wu Ze Tian all along too. He was just like all the other men.

I turn to Gaozong. "Don't make the mistake of marrying her. She's ruthless and a tyrant. She's more than ten years older than you, and your father's girl! Do you have any pride?"

Gaozong stares at me, then he opens his mouth. "Guards, kill her."

Soldiers surge forward to grab me, but I keep yelling. "You will get karma, mark my words! Your past will always haunt you!"

Then I'm dragged away. The doors bang shut, leaving Wu Ze Tian with her wine soaked dress and my traitor of a son.

The soldiers lead me to a small jail cell and throw me in. Then a new guard steps forward and gives a command. "New orders, kill her now," he says.

I can't help it. I start to laugh. "That's the least of my worries. Do it then!"

I hold my arms open, daring them to shoot me.

The new guard squeezes the trigger.

Liang Wen, Mother, I finally come to join you in heaven. Are you still waiting for me?

Or maybe I'll go to hell.

With a last hysterical laugh, I fall over.

Dead.

----------

Woah there. I;m the author, nice to meet you. You may not want to meet me after I killed her. But here I am. Honestly, I was going to kill her all along. Maybe you'd realised that. And she did go crazy in the end. I mean, she's really lost a lot of people. I think she's still obsessed about Liang Wen, though. She's really crazy about him. Everything reminds her of him. That's love, I guess, but a little extreme. I would've liked longer to develop the other stuff, like how Wu turns evil- okay, she was always evil- and all, but I'm ending it. After all, she's dead. Oops. I killed her. My apologies, though. I know it must feel bad whenever someone dies.

Comment what you feel! See ya!
