She didn't know how she got there. No, that's a lie. She did. In her state of shock though, she could worry about that later. She felt the coldness of the tile as she laid there on the floor, razor in hand, and blood dripping onto the floor.
Black spots dance in her vision, fatigue filled eyes threatening to close. Her stomach felt heavy, as if there was a giant boulder weighing it down. She had to get up. She had to. What would her parents say if they found her like this? That's a scary thought to think about. But that's a problem for future Gem.
She weakly slid the razor across the floor and to the other side of the bathroom. She blinked a couple times and stretched her arms, gripping onto the sink cabinets. It took her a couple minutes, but she slowly pulled herself up into a position where she was sitting on her knees.
As she sat up, she gripped the side of her head and winced. Her head hurt like there was something huge on top of it. She stayed there until the pounding became a light throb. She lowered her hand and looked around at her surroundings.
There was a semi large blood splatter next to her. Gem groaned slightly as she would have to clean that up later. She also saw her phone next to it. It probably slid out when she sat up. She reached out and picked it up and stared at it for a minute.
She squinted as she turned it on and the bright screen flickered to life. She scrolled through her apps and clicked on Whatsapp, tapping on the first contact. She clicked the call button and tears rolled down her cheeks as she waited with bated breath.
Luckily for her, the person on the other end picked up after only a couple rings. She heard the person call out a questioning greeting, and she shakily put the phone to her ear. "Fwhip?" She called.
"Gem? Why are you calling me? I'll be home in a bit." They answered. She could hear Sausage's voice on the other end of the line and she sighed.
"T-That's just it. W-When will you b-be home?" She stuttered out. Fwhip went silent and she panicked for a moment until she heard their voice again.
"We've just pulled into the neighborhood. Did you need something?" They asked.
She nodded before realizing her sibling couldn't see her. She internally face-palmed at that. "Yeah. I-I did. It h-happened again. Please hurry h-home." She murmured.
Fwhip clicked their tongue and hummed slightly in acknowledgment. "Got it. I'll stay on call with you until I'm in the house. We're almost there."
Gem muttered something and put her phone down. She pulled her knees up to her chest, resting her chin on her knees. Time seemed to pass by slowly until she faintly heard the click of the door opening and feet running up the stairs.
She weakly looked up as Fwhip gently opened the door to the bathroom, probably so as not to startle her in her current state. Her sibling dropped to their knees and wrapped Gem in a hug, rubbing her back.
They ruffled her hair and got her to move against the bathtub so that they could access the cabinet. They pulled out the first aid kit and pulled out some things from it.
Gem looked away, shame burning through her as her sibling cleaned up her cuts. She winced and nearly flinched as Fwhip disinfected her wounds. She saw them frown slightly and her eyes filled with more tears.
Fwhip wiped away her tears, reassuring her and finishing bandaging up her arms. "I'm not going to ask what sparked this, but we need to tell mom and dad. I can't stand by and watch you suffer anymore. You told me not to tell them the first time, but this time I can't ignore it."
Gem only nodded as Fwhip helped her to her feet, leading her out of the bathroom and to her bedroom. "I'll let you get ready for bed and do what you need to do." They said, guiding her into her room.
She nodded again and shooed them out, shutting the door behind them. She flicked on the lights and walked over to the bird cage near her bed.
Her parakeet, Francis, squaked at her as she approached. She smiled and opened his food bag. She opened his cage door slightly and poured the food into his bowl.
He squaked his thanks and Gem grinned. "You're welcome buddy." She gently petted him and closed the door to the cage.
She then walked over to her dresser, pulling out a set of pajamas and quickly changing into them. She walked back over to the door and opened it.
"I'm ready." She murmured before brightening up a bit as Pumpkin, their family dog, followed Fwhip into the room.
"Hi girly!" She giggled, giving Pumpkin a hug and headed over to her bed, pulling back the sheets and climbing in.
Pumpkin jumped onto the bed and laid down at the end of it. Gem knew she could tell something was up.
"So what are you going to do?" Gem asked, looking up at her sibling.
Fwhip grabbed her clothes from off the floor and put them into the empty hamper. "Going to clean this up and then work on something." They chuckled. "As much fun as it is hanging out with Sausage, I do have some school work to finish."
She laughed alongside them. "You? Working on school work?" She teased.
They playfully pouted at her as they placed her phone on her side table. "I'll have you know that it's Design Tech work. Thank you very much."
She chuckled and curled up in her blankets. "Good night Gem. If you need anything just give me a shout." They smiled, leaving the room and leaving the door slightly ajar.
Gem sighed and flipped over to her right side to look out her window. This wasn't quite the night she was hoping for, but her twin's got her back. That's enough for her.
