Chapter 12

***
November 3, 1800
Sehyun Han

Sehyun Han had been reading for the last two hours without changing his posture too extremely and without any regard to the human world. He'd completely forgotten about Marty and the dog he'd seen on the deck.

Aeryn had knocked a couple of times, asking for a chance to take a nap or to at least unlock the door because "she had something to show him." Every time she did, Sehyun did not notice and provided no reaction or action. The one time he got an inkling that a world outside his room existed, he merely argued with her through the door.

"You sleep more than me and that's saying something!" he had announced through the door.

"I haven't seen you sleep once!"

"Because I'm better than you." He wanted to continue speaking, but Aeryn had already walked away. He would have said: I have ascended the astral plane and no longer need sleep to sustain myself like the rest of you measly human beings.

But then he didn't bother, so he just muttered the words to himself.

As time went on, Sehyun started remembering why he didn't like Aeryn when they first met. He thought that she had changed a little bit throughout the course of their relationship, but as the more and more they talked and conversed, it seemed he felt the need to talk to her less and less. He became bored with her every word, though playing poker or other such intellectual games would be fine. He didn't hate her, just didn't see the potential in her to be anything other than a friend.

He'd heard some crew members speak of them, but he didn't care. The only person he loved was himself, and no one could change that unless they met every requirement or standard on his list. He was picky beyond reason, so that's why he settled for nothing.

Sehyun had once found the courage to tell his mother, but she just said, "Just wait until you meet the one. You'll be normal in no time."

Shaking his head as he read the section of Zeus and his never-ending list of lovers, he muttered, "Is this the 'normal' you were talking about?"

After a few more ticks of the clock, Sehyun lost all motivation to read, so he crawled into his bed, forgetting to blow out the candles and allowed himself to think.

He'd been socializing more than usual, and it exhausted him.

Even when he knew that Marty was on the deck, waiting for him to come rather than knocking endlessly like Aeryn, Sehyun couldn't bring himself to go and open the door. To go and greet Marty and have a reunion.

He just didn't have the energy or the drive.

That meeting with Hades wrenched every last drop of Sehyun's ability to speak with humans for the month, and November still had over twenty-seven days to go.

He groaned into his pillow.

Sehyun couldn't manage the strength to even blow out the candles or use the bathroom (something he'd been avoiding for the last hour).

He was tired.

But his brain certainly wasn't.

How would he go about killing someone? It was something he used to think about when he first came onto the Black Egret, but it gradually turned into something he never wanted to do for his own peace of mind.

But Sehyun tended to be selfish, but maybe that was okay in this world where everything is nothing short of a threat.
