[33] Peril

"How will we escape?" you wondered. Right now, you were sitting on the bench, thinking. He was pacing around the room in deep thought. It scared you to ask that because it may have interrupted his state of concentration.

"I don't know. . ." he replied. "Unless the others come for us—but where would they know to look?"

"Hmm, do you have anything to break us out?"

"They took all my stuff."

"Great," you grumbled. It could be any minute before the Galra did something cataclysmic. You were running out of time. Suddenly, Keith perked up.

"Wait!" He took off his boot and pulled out a small device. "I forgot about this!"

"What an Ex Machina," you gasped. "But what is it?"

"It's a laser knife," he answered, revealing its blade.

"WELL, CUT US OUT OF HERE!" you screeched. "IT'LL BE ANY MINUTE BEFORE THAT WITCH DESTROYS ALL THE THINGS WE KNOW AND LOVE!"

"The only thing I love is—never mind." He just awkwardly turned to the wall and searched for a lock. You were confused by that last bit. What was he going to say. . .

Once Keith found the bolt holding the door back—he started to cut through it. You were shaking with excitement and nervousness.

"HURRY!" you quietly yelled.

"Almost. . .THERE!"

The door flung open—unclasped at last. You mentally cheered, but it wasn't over yet.

"Come on!" he directed. "But stay close—we can't get separated again."

"You don't have to tell me twice," you snickered.

He headed out and you followed. It was tedious avoiding Galra, but he was pretty sneaky. Even though he got caught before, it was different when you were by his side. He seemed more cautious and aware of his surroundings. So, that was a relief.

"HEY!" The sound caused you both to flinch. Turning to see who it was, it was a Galra soldier. Of course. "HALT!"

"(Y/N), follow me!" Keith ran in the opposite direction with you trailing right by his side. He was frantically scanning the area for anymore possible threats. It was a Galra ship, there would be danger lurking in every corner.

"WE COULD REALLY USE THE OTHER PALADINS!" you expressed. Suddenly, you felt yourself lose composure and trip. "GAH!" Hitting the ground, you tried to get up as quick as you could. But it wasn't enough—the Galra was towering over you, leaving a shadow atop your figure.

Just as he aimed his sword in your direction, Keith slid in between you two. And because of his speedy reflexes, he was able to disorient the sword which the Galra wielded—and flip it across the room. Now that you noticed it, his fighting-style was awfully similar to the one of a Galra's. Perhaps that gave him an easier advantage. "BACK, ANIMAL!" he shouted.

After shooting back up, you kept running—with Keith following behind. After some time, you managed to lose the offender. That was a close call. . . But it wasn't over yet—since he was probably contacting for backup.

"Where are the others—oof," you grunted. You looked to see what you had just run into. "Oh, it's only Pidge," you said, quite disappointed.

"What do you mean only Pidge??" she asked in an offended manner.

"Well, we were thinking of someone who could actually fight," Keith described.

"What? Like Lance?" Pidge retorted.

Keith replied, ". . .Never mind, actually. Anyways—why are you here!?"

Pidge responded with, "The others and I noticed the Galra had gotten a hold of something due to an energy force on my galactic—"

"Yeah, the earrings. That old hag has 'em," you told her.

"WHAT!?" Pidge shook like a hydrophobic chihuahua which was just dumped in a bath. "THEY GOT THEM!?!? OH, MY GOSH—"

"We're going to get them right now!" Keith assured, slightly raising his voice. "Now, where are the others?"

"They're—wait—how did you two get here—"

"That doesn't matter! Now, tell us."

". . .Fine," Pidge whined. "We all separated to look in pairs around on this ship, so I'm guessing the others are scattered in different hallways."

"Well, if you were in pairs—where's your partner?" Keith wondered.

"Oh, Lance? Well, I kinda left him to be bait for some Galra a few hallways back. . ."

". . ."

You crossed your arms. "The only thing that matters now is the earrings."

"Yeah, but we can't do that without the others!" Pidge argued.

"Well, maybe you shouldn't have left Lance to be bait."

"True."

After the discussion, you, Keith, and Pidge decided to find the others. After some time, you all reunited. But finding the earrings was a whole different story. . .

So, Shiro brought up, "(Y/N). Do you remember the room Haggar was in?"

"Kinda, I think it was in the center of the ship," you replied.

"Alright, let's find it then."

After searching for about half an hour, you were sure you found the correct room. Inside, there was another door. Once you all headed in there—it revealed to be an elevator. This caused a new level of anxiety to build up inside you. Shiro pressed the top button.

"This seems too easy. . ." Lance commented.

"We should have brought Matt to be bait," you murmured.

"He would have probably pressed all the buttons in the elevator though," Pidge responded.

There was then a brief silence. This elevator ride was taking forever. You were still rather shaken up from that close call earlier, but Keith's presence somehow calmed you. So, you scooted closer in his direction.

"After all this, I want a nice hot cup of dirt," you commented.

Keith asked, "Why though?"

"So, I can throw it in Lotor's face."

He only let out a playful scoff.

At long last, there was a ding. The elevator door opened up to reveal something terrifying. Something which sent a shiver down your spine. It was the weapon that everyone talked about. The one that your earrings alone could empower—and cause multiple planets to cease existence. And it already looked like it was just warming up. This eerie hum noise vibrated from it.

"We gotta destroy it!" Lance told everyone, but Hunk only stopped him.

"Wait. . ."

"Huh?"

"Where is Hagger?" Hunk intently scanned the area. The room had a tall ceiling made entirely of a thick glass, and a very dull interior. All the rooms looked the same, honestly.

"I'm tired of waiting, let's just find the earrings already!" You walked away from the group with no remorse. Whatever happens, happens.

"(Y/N), WAIT!" Keith called, becoming annoyed with your incautious attitude.

And in that moment, Haggar mysteriously teleported between you and the others. Welp.

"You think you can stop me, child?" she rasped.

"Well yes, but actually no," you unironically answered.

"Hmph, well you're in for a treat. . ." She then did that creepy thing where she lifted up her arms and waved her fingers toward your figure. Once again, those purple sparks emitted from her palms.

"(Y/N)!" Keith spazzed out.

"Any last words?" Haggar chortled.

"Finally," you answered in response to her dramatic question. But once she attempted to cast her spell—you jumped out of the way. Keith swung his sword at the witch, but her reflexes were much too fast.

The other Paladins were fighting using their Bayards, but it was useless. You stood closest to Keith—and observed the area for any sign of the enemy.

"Stay near me," Keith heroically spoke. His intense expression was so hot. It was almost like the air conditioner breezed through the strokes of his soul-black hair in a rather cinematic way. It looked like something out of an anime.

"Wow, hawt."

"Wait, wha?"

You quickly reworded, "I said you're gross." Before sarcastically telling yourself, Nice save, (Y/N).

Keith only ignored it and continued to focus on the current situation. "Where is she?"

And like a shot, Haggar appeared right in front of Shiro and Lance—throwing them off with her sorcery. They both let out a grunt as they hit the hard surface. Hunk immediately began shooting in that direction, while Keith held out his sword in a defensive manner.

"You're all weak."

"Says the old woman," Lance managed to riposte.

"That's a woman?" Pidge retorted.

"Hmph! Your childish exchanges are simply a front," Haggar spat.

"Like that Botox you injected in your face?" you countered.

"HUSH!" Haggar then sent a wave of oh-so-intimidating spells your way. You dodged, luckily. That's around the time she began to monologue. "Fools! You come parading on this ship, thinking you can defeat ME! I am the most powerful sorceress to ever EXI—"

Pidge smacked her in the back of the head with a chair. Haggar passed out and plopped on the floor. You all glanced at Pidge.

"What? She was annoying me."

"Wow," Keith commented. "You could have done that like, five minutes ago though."

Pidge only shrugged.

You then reminded, "Guys! Remember the earrings?"

With that being said, everyone headed toward the weapon. But before you could investigate, the machinery began to power up. Like it was getting ready to launch.

"Why's it doing that!?" Lance worriedly asked.

"Because I think you missed someone~" a charming—yet familiar—voice answered. Turning around, you saw Lotor. Oh, great. How did he even get here?

Lotor had the enabler for the cannon in his hand—the destructive touch of a button right at his fingertips.

Keith seized your hand, holding it in a protective fashion. Things were going to get interesting. . .
