Gryffindor Vs Ravenclaw
Emma's POV
So I ended up becoming a reserve player for the gryffindor team. I am so nervous about today's match. I will be standing in for Katie, who is in the hospital wing. No one aside from the team, my friends and little sister know about me playing. I'm the teams secret weapon for the match. "You'll do great" Harry tells me as breakfast.
"Harry's right, you've done great in practice" Alicia tells me.
"But that's practice, there'll be a hundred of people watching at the match" I matter.
"Oh so you have stage fright" Fred states as he helps himself to a big portion of eggs.
"I fly for fun, not competition" I whine.
"Just forget the match, forget everyone watching. Just pretend you are at home having fun" George tells me. "You got this Birdie" he assures me.
"Thanks Tiger" I say and he smiles.
"No fair, how come he gets a nickname?" Fred whines.
"Because he gave me one" I state.
"You should eat Emma, you'll need your energy" Angelina tells me.
"She's right" Oliver agrees.
"By the way Emma, what is your broom?" Harry asks. "I've only seen you use school brooms in practice" he states.
"That's a secret" I say with a smirk.
"It's our other secret weapon" Oliver adds. I have a bit of toast. Before leaving with the team for the pitch. The team hiding me from view. Once we reached the change rooms. I put on my gryffindor jersey, quidditch robes and gloves.
"For you Birdie" George says handing me my firebolt.
"Thanks Tiger" I say with a smile.
"Wait, you have a firebolt?!" Harry exclaims.
"A gift from a man who is like an uncle to me" I state.
"With two firebolts on our team, there is no way we can lose" Fred states high fiving George. Oliver joins us, exiting the captains change room. We all line up in front of him.
"You know what we've got to do" he tells us. "If we lose this match, we're out of the running. just just fly like you did in practice yesterday, and we'll be okay" he states. Not much of pep talk, but guess it will have to do. I take a deep steadying breath.
"You got this" George assures me placing a hand on my shoulder. I smile at him. "I got your back" he adds raising his beaters bat. I nod and we follow the others out onto the pitch. We're greeted by tumultuous applause. The Ravenclaw team, dressed in blue, were already standing in the middle of the field. Their Seeker, Cho Chang, was the only girl on their team. She smiled at Harry as the teams faced each other behind our captains.
"Wood, Davies, shake hands" Madame Hooch instructs. Oliver shook hands with the Ravenclaw Captain. "Mount your brooms . . . on my whistle . . . three -- two -- one" she says and blows her whistle. We take off into the air.
"They're off, and the big excitement this match is the Firebolt that Harry Potter is flying for Gryffindor. According to Which Broomstick, the Firebolt's going to be the broom of choice for the national teams at this year's World Championship" Lee states.
"Jordan, would you mind telling us what's going on in the match?" McGonagall asks him. As Angelina steals the quaffle. She looks at me and I nod. I stand up on my broom as I feel more natural doing so and she tosses me the quaffle. I catch it and start to head for the ravenclaw goal posts.
"Okay, okay, Gryffindor in possession, Gryffindors new reserve player Emma Vane, heading for goal" Lee states. "Wait! Is that a firebolt she's on?!" he exclaims. I swerve to avoid an opposing chaser as George protected me from a bludger attack.
I take aim and through the quaffle. It goes through the left hoop as I jump through the third. I land perfectly on my broom and drift around to rejoin the match. "Wow she can fly!" Lee shouts. "Not only can she broom surf like a pro, she can drift and surf jump. A truly incredible addition to the gryffindor team" he states. "Especially with a firebolt" he adds.
We're soon eighty points ahead. I had gotten three of the eight goals. "Gryffindor leads by eighty points to zero, and look at that Firebolt go! Potter's really putting it through its paces now, see it turn -- Chang's Comet is just no match for it, the Firebolt's precision -- balance is really noticeable in these long" Lee explains.
"JORDAN! ARE YOU BEING PAID TO ADVERTISE FIREBOLTS? GET ON WITH THE COMMENTARY!" McGonagall snaps. Ravenclaw was pulling back; they had now scored three goals, which put Gryffindor only fifty points ahead. I'm currently doing a quaffle shuffle with Alicia and Angelina. To keep the ravenclaw chasers from getting the ball.
"HARRY, THIS IS NO TIME TO BE A GENTLEMAN! KNOCK HER OFF HER BROOM IF YOU HAVE TO!" Oliver snaps at Harry. Who swerved to avoid crashing into Cho. Who apparently decided to mark him instead of looking for the snitch herself. Harry dived again, and Cho, thinking he'd seen the Snitch, tried to follow. Except Harry pulled out of the dive very sharply after I scored another goal. Cho meanwhile hurtled downward; Harry rose fast as a bullet once more.
"Oh!" I hear Cho shout. I look to see three dementors looking up at Harry from the ground. I frown in confusion. Why isn't cold?
Harry plunged a hand down the neck of his robes, he whipped out his wand and roared, "Expecto patronum!" Something silver-white, something enormous, erupted from the end of his wand. He didn't pause to watch as he headed for the snitch. I sit on my broom. Madam Hooch's whistle sounded as Harry caught the snitch.
"You did great Birdie!" George shouts as he lands beside me.
"You didn't do bad yourself Tiger" I tell him. As we join the team. A gaggle of Gryffindor supporters sprinting onto the field, Ron in the lead. Suddenly Katie appears.
"You were great Emma" she tells me.
"You're better" I say happily.
"I was never sick" she admits. "We just wanted to throw the ravenclaws off their game with a new player. See they are traditional with their quidditch moves and don't know how to counter out of the box moves like broom surfing and drifting. The best way to beat their team is to do the unexpected. They didn't expect us to switch players the day of the match or for your style of flying" she explains.
"And it worked, we won the match!" Oliver cheers.
"You know what this means" Fred states.
"Party in the common room!" George declares slinging his arm around my shoulder. I smile up at him as he starts to lead me to the castle. If you guys are wondering, George and my relationship is going well. Still a secret though and we haven't kissed since the Christmas holidays.
"Come on, Harry!" I shout.
"Party! Gryffindor common room, now!" George adds. Harry joins us as we lead the way to the castle. It felt as though they had already won the Quidditch Cup; the party went on all day and well into the night. Fred and George Weasley disappeared for a couple of hours and returned with armfuls of bottles of butterbeer, pumpkin fizz, and several bags full of Honeydukes sweets.
"How did you do that?" Angelina asks them.
"With a little help from Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs" George whispers in my ear. I giggle. Only one person wasn't joining in the festivities. Hermione, incredibly, was sitting in a corner, attempting to read an enormous book entitled Home Life and Social Habits of British Muggles.
"Emma, you were amazing" Romilda tells me. "Dad would be proud" she states. I smile, dad had been the one to teach me how to fly. It was our thing, when I wasn't helping him in his potions lab. Where he died and I became blind. I frown and put down my chocolate frog, no longer hungry.
"You ok Birdie?" George asks me.
"Yeah" I mutter and leave the common room. I head for the astronomy tower. I sit on the balcony looking at the stars. "You didn't have to come Tiger" I state as he sits beside me.
"What kind of boyfriend would I be if I left you when you're sad?" he asks me. "What's wrong?" he asks.
"Just Romilda brought up our dad, he was the one who taught me to fly" I state. "I miss him" I add looking up at the starry sky.
"He'd be very proud of you, I know I am" he states wrapping his arm around me. "How about tomorrow we pay Coal and Loki a visit?" he suggests. I nod my head and smile. "There's that smile" he says and kisses my cheek. "Do you want to rejoin the party?" he asks.
"I think I'll call it a night actually, I'm tired" I tell him. He nods his head and helps me up. We return to the common room and I notice it's one in the morning. The party still going on. Just then McGonagall appeared. She made us all stop and go to bed. I pecked George's check before going to my dorm room. I got ready for bed and called it a night.
