Ch 2- Going to Grandma Maggie's

"Relax Matt! You've been jumpy since we've decided to skip school for today." I said to Matthew as we walked.

"I can't believe I'm doing this.." He muttered as he looked around.

"How are we even going to get anywhere when I can't see anything?" He said as he looked around.

He was about to crash onto a pole but I grabbed his arm and pulled him away from it.

"Look Matt. I'll get ya new ones, for now I'll help you get to places kay?"

"No, it's fine... Because I brought an extra pair just in case this would happen." He unzipped his backpack before taking out some small case.

He opened it and took the glasses out and put them on.

"How the heck-?" I said, amazed by how Matt somehow always came prepared for everything.

"It's not the first time someone ruins my glasses." He shrugged.

"So what exactly are we going to do now? What if someone sees us?! Then what?" He questioned me as we walked.

"You need to chill, little brother. We'll be fine. Believe me. I know where we can stay, the best place of all."

"Emma, Matthew. What brings you here?" Our grandmother greeted when we got to her house and she opened the door.

She was a sweet older lady, so I knew she wouldn't mind having us stay over.

"Hi Grandma Maggie." I smiled as we walked inside.

"Shouldn't you children be at school?" She asked as she closed the door.

"Well-" Matt started to say but I elbowed him to shut up.

"Today we don't have school-" I lied.

Her eyes widened and she took her glasses off, wiping them with a handkerchief.

"Oh really? I was so sure today was a school day.." She said, confused.

Since she had a pretty hazy memory it was easy tricking her.

"Emma.." My brother started saying.

"Shut the fuck up don't screw this up for us." I whispered back.

"What was that dear?" Grandma Maggie asked.

"Oh, nothing." I quickly responded, before I shot a look at Matt.

"Right Matt?" I asked, with a threatening look on my face.

He sighed but nodded slowly.

Grandma nodded before walking over to the kitchen.

"Well I think you two deserve some of my delicious homemade cookies... Now if only I could find my glasses.."

"You're literally holding them..." I pointed at her hands.

"Oh!" She chuckled sheepishly.

"Well, go ahead and get comfortable kids. I'll be back with some cookies in a few."

"Okay, thanks Grandma." I said, sitting down letting out a sigh of relief.

"So now what? Are we just gonna pretend to be at school and stay here for another 8 hours?!" Matthew said.

I nodded before resting my feet on the table.

This won't be too bad.

I mean, eating Grandma's cookies and watching Netflix instead of being stuck with mom doing stupid chores?

I can get used to this.
