"Caspian, come." Jade ordered as she walked through the doorway into their room. Emma looked up from the book she was reading, Bird sleeping at the foot of her bed.

"Hey Jade."

"Hey."

"Guess what."

"What?"

"I'm getting my hair cut today."

"How?"

"Every month hair dressers come. You have to sign up quickly and it's $20."

"I don't have cash." Emma admitted.

Jade flipped out her wallet and handed her a $20. "Go sign up, quick."

"Thanks!" Emma said, jumping off the bed. "Bird, come."

An hour later, Emma was in the Recreation building in a chair over a tarp. She watched Jade get the sides of her hair shaved down.

"Trim?" The lady asked.

Emma thought for a second. "Can you just cut it all off?"

"Like a buzzcut?" She asked, concerned.

"Like 'I think I like girls, mom'"

The stylist laughed. "Okay. Long on top short on sides."

"Like her's?" Emma asked gesturing to Jade.

"More like a pixie."

Emma shrugged. "Work you magic, I guess."

It took a while, combing and cutting it short. When she turned Emma around, she had the biggest smile imaginable.

"Damn." Jade laughed. She had been spinning around in the chair next to Emma, keeping conversation.

Emma stood up and looked at her stylist. "I love it."

When they got back to their lodge everyone was talking about Emma's hair. Mostly good things.

Jade shut their bedroom door- a big no in the lodge. She sat on Emma's bed and looked at her.

"You know I've loved you since I met you."

Emma blushed. "I didn't know I was queer until I met you."

"Do I have your consent to kiss you?"

Emma smiled and kissed Jade, deeply.

"I think I love you." Emma whispered.

Jade kissed her cheek and then stood up. She walked to her desk and opened the top drawer.

"About that-"

She handed a piece of cardstock.

Jade James has graduated River Crossing Christian Rehabilitation Program

Emma looked up. "You're leaving?"

Jade sighed and sat on her bed. "Yeah."

"When?"

"I leave for the airport tomorrow morning."

"Shit." Emma whispered. She looked at Jade. "Where's home?"

"Richmond."

"Virginia?"

"Yeah- you know where that is?"

Emma grinned. "two hours from my house."

Jade jumped off her bed, startling Caspian. "Seriously?!"

"Yep." Emma laughed- "I can't drive though- too much anxiety about it."

"Well I'll come to you." Jade said.

"I'd like that." Emma said, kissing Jade one last time. "Let's go, dinnertime."
