Emma really thought much of it. Well, she thought of it a bit in high school. But now ever since James and her started to go out, she couldn't stop thinking about it.

Everytime he spoke, Emma always caught herself glancing at his lips, wanting to connect with hers. Since she just started being friends with James there's been a few pecks on the cheeks and forehead, but never a real kiss. She honestly thought it was her doing it, every time James attempted to do anything she found a way to get out of it. It's not like she doesn't want to kiss him, it's just that it would be her first kiss and it was nerve wracking.

She swiftly whipped the cookie dough batter into the bowl as she waited for the oven to heat up. Emma and James are having a movie night, and she was making cookies. Well, James was supposed to help, but he got too distracted by the football game playing on the television screen. Emma's eyes lifted up from the baking tray to see James with his feet up on the table, as he shook his head and said something under his breath about the game.

Emma just watched him and chuckled to herself.

"Thank you so much for the helping hand James, I really appreciate it." Emma said sarcastically as she turned back around to finish the dough.

"Oh shoot, sorry Emma." She heard him getting off the couch and heading towards the kitchen.

She suddenly felt him behind her and soon enough his arms were wrapped around her waist. "I got a little bit distracted." He said as he placed his head on her shoulder.

"Forgive me." Emma felt a trail of kisses by her ear. "Pretty please." He repeated his actions as her heart began to pound in her chest, from how close he is.

"You are forgiven James." she said, even though she wasn't mad before.

James let out a sigh of relief. "Are the cookies almost done?"

"No," Emma placed the bowl on the counter and finally turned to him. "The oven is almost done heating up."

James smiled, "Well, in the meantime," he slowly traced his fingers up on her arm. "We could pass the time."

Emma knew what he was doing. His face was so close to hers she could feel his warm breath on her cheek. He looked up at her eyes before obviously brought his attention to her lips. Emma's heart pounded in her chest as she felt herself backing up slightly, but only to hit the table.

"James," she whispered trying to get his attention back to her eyes. He hummed in response. "I think maybe the oven is ready now."

Emma quickly got out of his grip as he sighed in frustration. She didn't mean to make him upset. But she was just not sure how to go about this. It was a simple thing, but for her it was a huge step.

"Yeah, okay. I'll just finish watching the game." He doesn't make eye contact and walks back to the living room.

She watched him slump back on the couch, and suddenly she felt guilty. He hasn't asked her to be his girlfriend yet. But the two of them have been in this situation in between stages when he would take her out. Surprise her with little pecks on the cheek and forehead. Emma knew they both like each other but haven't made it official.

"Crap!" she yelped in pain. Her finger became bright red, with all that thinking she wasn't paying attention and burned herself on the cookie pan.

It shouldn't be a big thing. Kissing. Just do it. Emma told herself, while she placed the hot cookies on a plate. She didn't really understand why it would be her first kiss? She has to start somewhere. But deep down inside she knew there was another reason.

"That movie was so amazing, but at the same time, I don't even know what really happened." Emma said as the credits rolled on the television screen.

Emma could feel James laugh as she laid her head on his chest.

"I've watched Pulp Fiction over the millionth time, and I'm in the same boat as you, Emma." James told her.

Emma laughed and moved closer into James' warm chest, as she turned over to see him looking down at her smiling.

"The cookies were really good, almost as good as my amazing baking." He said as he played with her hair.

"Are you a little scared that you might have some competition with me now?" Emma wiggled her eyebrows and James just scoffed.

"Never, in a million years." she just shook her head and relaxed, as he ran his fingers through her hair.

"I like it when you play with my hair," she whispered into his chest softly.

Emma could feel his eyes looking down at her as she laid on him. He softly placed a sweet kiss on her forehead.

"I'll do anything you want, Emma. I'll do it just for you."

Emma smiled and turned her head up towards him. "How could one boy be so damn charming?" Emma asked if she played with his hair nonchalantly.

He shrugged his shoulders and focused his attention on her, like he does time and time again. Her kitchen and counter early that night was still fresh in her mind. Emma knew what she wanted. James knew what she wanted. He gently placed his hands on her cheek to bring her closer. Emma unconsciously stiff at his touch and quickly he let go.

"Is there something wrong Emma?" James broke the silence unexpectedly.

"James no I-"

"Because if you don't want to kiss me, then I totally get it. I know this isn't what you want-"

"No, James." Emma took his hand and intertwined them. "I do, I really do. I just...I..."

"Hey Emma, it's okay you can tell me anything." He said as he rubbed his thumb against her hand, and brought her closer to his lap.

"It's so embarrassing." Emma placed her hand over her face and buried her head in the couch. She knew James had been with the other girls, who have been way more experienced than her. And she knew kissing him would make her fall in love with him even more.

"I won't judge you I promise." She gave him a small smile and sat back up.

"I've never kissed anyone before." Emma said softly fiddling with her hands shyly.

It was quiet for a few moments before James finally said something.

"Wait, you haven't had your first kiss yet?" he asked her, a slight chuckle falling from his mouth as he asked the question.

Emma frowned, looking down at her feet as she picked at the skin around her fingernail. She should have known this was how he was going to react. No other twenty-two-year old has ever had a first kiss.

"Forget everything I said, it's just stupid and it's not worth it."

Quickly sliding off the couch, Emma intended on making herself a cup of tea, but a hand gripped hers, making her actions come to a stop.

"Emma wait," James whispered, pulling her down on the bed, "It's nothing to be ashamed of. Do you know how many guys like that a girl has some respect towards herself? You don't go against what you're uncomfortable with. A guy likes that kind of thing."

"No they don't," Emma mumbled, still refusing to make eye contact with him, "kissing someone doesn't mean you don't respect yourself." she said sheepishly.

She frowned, continuing to pick at her nail as her hair fell from her shoulder down to her chest.

"I'm just stupid." she chuckled softly.

James pouted, placing the loose hair back behind her ear. He didn't think it was horrible that she hadn't kissed anybody yet. Yeah, it was rare, but it's nothing for her to think low of herself over.

"Hey now," he whispered, dancing his fingers along her shoulder, "don't think of yourself like that."

"What else can I do?" She suddenly snapped, throwing her hands in the air.

"Do you know how embarrassing it is to be the only person out of everyone you know to be a virgin, let alone be a damn virgin in kissing as well?"

Tears were streaming down her face slowly, crying delicately instead of harshly. It was sad to see her like this, she never wanted to cry. She was always happy, always a smile on her face, as if it was permanent.

"Emma," James sighed, rubbing his palms along her smooth arms, "let me kiss you."

Emma's eyes widened, her mouth releasing a small gasp.

"W-What?" Emma stammered shyly.

"You heard me, let me kiss you." he repeated, a small smirk playing on his lips.

"N-No, James. You're my best friend and this could ruin everything, I mean, haven't you seen like in the movies? Things like this ruin friendships and make this awkward and they just gotta be so weird."

"Nonsense it's not going to be weird. Close your eyes, and don't say another word," James commanded.

"Okay," Emma closed her eyes and did as he told her to do.

"What now?" she questioned bewilderedly.

"Just don't move a muscle..." James said smiling.

He slowly leaned in and kissed her lips passionately.

Emma opened her eyes and saw James kissing her lips. They broke the kiss and looked at each other confused.

"I'm confused. Why did you kiss me?"

"Because I wanted to show you how much I love being here with you." James grinned.

She chuckled and placed each hand on his face, observing his stare to see if it was real. Emma never expected to feel this way with him. It never crossed her mind.

The pad of her thumb grazed his bottom lip, and from the blur of her eyes, she could see him close his eyes gently, as if only focusing on her feel.

"What are you doing? Why are you feeling my face? And why are you giving me that weird look on your face?" James questioned looking confused.

"It's nothing... it's just that I felt something unexpected." Emma whispered.

"Like what?"

"The kiss, it got me feeling so confused all of a sudden. And I guess I want to do it again." She grinned playing with his hair softly.

James nodded, his hands finding her waist. He rubbed her skin a bit before pulling her against him.

Emma's breathing quickened, pulling his head slowly to hers until their lips touched. This time, she kissed back, turning her head to the side.

James quickly pulled away, breathing heavily.

"If you kiss me any more than that, I think I'm going to go insane." he laughed as he caressed her cheek softly.
