"Emery! Is that you?" A shout called from the kitchen as I walked through the door.

"Yeah Jess... it's just me," I replied as I tossed my keys off to the side.

Jessica is my best friend that I am now roomating with, in my mother's house that was left behind. Her personality is pretty spunky and witty, always the life of the party. Short with dark hair, glasses and an eyebrow piercing, she always had two looks, edgy and classy. Jess was a year younger than me, but always acts like she was the oldest one, (of course). I guess you can say we're kind of a like in such ways.

We did everything together like two peas in a pod joined at the hip, but then my life took a turn for the worst and everything started to slow down.

I became lost and couldn't find my way, that's when Jess decided to move in with me. Life became more serious since then, and all of the fun times that we used to have... doesn't really happen anymore.

Jessica is now a manager working nights at a bar in town, and during the day she is studying to become an RN. As far as me, well I work at a local coffee shop that our good neighbor Adam owns. Him and my mother were pretty close, best friends actually, and he's always checking up on me, to make sure everything is ok. I guess he feels like he owes it to her to keep me safe.
