Chapter 32. The date
The parking lot was packed to capacity when we pulled up, and I could see the band bringing in their equipment through the side door.
"How are you feeling?" Jess asked, while putting on her lipstick in the visor mirror.
"I just need a minute to breathe," I replied.
"Ok," she smiled, looking over to me, "you look great Em, try to have fun tonight," she said, as she reached over to give me a hug.
"Thanks Jess..." I responded.
As I watched her get out of the car and run to the building, I became anxious, "relax Emery... breathe..." I said to myself, as I took a deep breath.
Finally I got out of the car, and as I headed for the bar there was a group of guys standing close by the door. I heard a whistle coming from one of them as I entered the building, and I must admit, it felt good to get a little attention.
The crowd was heavy... and the DJ was playing music while waiting for the band to set up. I worked my way through the crowd and finally reached the bar. "Sheesh!" I said out loud, as I sat down on the only bar stool left.
"Crowded in here tonight right!" Jessica yelled to me, as she was bartending.
"Yeah...!" I yelled back.
"They're all here for the band... bunch of groupies!" she laughed.
"Including me!" I said with a grin.
"What are you having?!" she asked, smiling, and shaking her head.
"A Long Island!" I replied, which was my favorite drink, (well whenever I would have a drink.)
"It's on me!" she was treating.
"It's ok, I got it!" a man's voice insisted, while passing her a twenty, "you look good Emery..." he complimented, with a smile.
"Oh my god is this Carter?!" Jess asked, as her eyes grew big.
"Yeah..." I replied with a grin, looking up at him.
"Carter, this is my best friend Jess," I said, introducing him.
"Oh ok, nice to meet you!" he yelled to her.
"Same here!" she replied, "wow..." she said, motioning with her mouth behind his back and giving him two thumbs up, as she walked away to serve someone else. I chuckled to myself as I shook my head.
"What? did I miss something?" he asked.
"No..." I assured him with a smile and sipped my drink.
I could barely speak, he was stunning as always... standing there dressed in dark washed fitted jeans, a white button up with both sleeves rolled halfway up his arm, leaving the top button unfastened.
His facial hair was perfectly lined up and his earrings were blinging. I tried to keep my composure, but he was super-hot, and quickly I thought to myself, and Jess wondered why I was nervous.
"You look nice!" I complimented him.
"Thanks," he smiled, as he asked the bartender for a beer. "So, this is where you come when you're not in the woods?!" he asked sarcastically but joking, as he leaned in closer so we didn't have to yell.
"Funny guy huh..." I responded, as I took another sip of my drink,
"You can say that," he smirked, as he chugged down some of his beer.
The band announced that they were starting and the crowd became excited, including me, as I put my two fingers in my mouth and began to whistle.
Before we start, I would like to thank Cork & Tap for letting us play tonight! The lead singer announced, and the crowd went wild. Oh... he chuckled; I see everybody's ready out there huh...
"Yeah...!" I screamed with everyone as I held my glass in the air, and by now the alcohol started to hit me, and I was definitely starting to feel a little buzzed.
That's what I want to hear... he said, in a deep low voice as he began to play the chords on his guitar.
"He's playing Kryptonite!" I yelled to Carter, extremely excited.
"Kryptonite?!" he said, with a confused look.
"Yeah... by 3 Doors Down, hello...." I rolled my eyes, and chuckled.
He laughed as he shook his head, "It's nice to see you like this," he said, as he sipped on his beer.
"Oh really...?" I asked flirtingly, as I asked for another Long Island.
Nodding his head yes as he smirked, he definitely was flirting back.
"So do you like the band?!"
"It's cool... I mean it's not really my thing!" he chuckled, "but they sound good!"
"Oh, I'm sorry... we could have done something else had I knew!" I apologized.
"It's cool, I'm always up for trying something new!" he assured me.
"Ok..." I responded, as I chugged down the last bit of my drink. "Would you excuse me for a minute, I need to use the ladies room!" I said to him, as I hopped down from the bar stool.
"Do you want me to walk you over there?!" he offered in concern, but also being a gentleman.
"No... I got it!" I responded, with a cheesy smile.
"Are you sure?!" he asked.
"Yeah...!" I replied, as I started to walk off bopping myhead to the music.
