Chapter 25. Coffee
"Wake up sleepy head..." Jessica said, as she sat at the end of the couch greeting me with coffee.
"What time is it?" I mumbled, as I sat up yawning and stretching.
"It's 8:15," she responded, "you were completely knocked out when I came in, so I just left you here on the couch."
"Yeah... finally I got a goodnight sleep," I groaned, as I took the coffee from her.
"Do you have to work today?"
"I do, but not until 10," I said, gratefully.
"Oh, ok ... Well that gives us a little bit of time to catch up. So, how did everything go yesterday?" she asked, smiling.
"Wow Jess, can I wake up first?" I moaned, as I rolled my eyes off to the side.
"Come on Em...! you know I've been waiting all night for details, so spill it," she demanded.
"Ok, relax..." I ordered, as I stared at the coffee she was holding, "I got there a little earlier than him, and..."
"Wait! so you waited for him? that had to be nerve-wracking..." she chimed in.
"Oh my god it was..." I assured her, "but then he got there, and maybe twenty minutes in of talking, the nerves had calmed down, well just enough to get through the evening anyways."
"That's good right?" she asked.
"Yeah... It was."
She chuckled then asked curiously, "so what did you guys talk about?"
"I mean, we talked about school, work and family"
"Really? family huh..." her eyes flashed over to mine.
"Yeah... but I nixed off that part of the conversation."
"And what was his reaction to that?" she pondered.
"Umm... like a shock reaction I guess, well that's what I got from his facial expression anyway."
"Wow Em..." she said, as she shook her head, and all I could do was shrug my shoulders.
"So, I guess you didn't ask him about last year?"
"No...I wanted to, the thought definitely crossed my mind, especially when he started to talk about his job, but I couldn't, it was just too hard to ask him," I sighed, as I sipped my coffee.
"Yeah, I get it," she groaned, "well are you going to see him again?" she asked.
And with a smirk I answered, "I am... we're supposed to meet tomorrow night at the bar, to watch the cover band perform."
"Really Em...! Finally, I can meet this mystery man," she said, enthusiastically.
"Jess, I swear..., between you and Adam... I don't know who is the worst, you both just get way too excited," I said, as I got up to take the coffee cup into the kitchen.
"This is exciting...!" she grinned, "finally you're going on a date."
"If you say so," I responded, "I'm going to go take a shower now, I need to get ready for work, crazy..." I called her playfully, as I shook my head and walked away.
